Total safety by design: Increased safety and operability of supply chain of inland terminals for containers with dangerous goods
[EN] In recent years, there has been a considerable increase in the international transport of containers with dangerous goods, increasing the risk of seaports and surrounding cities together with the introduction of inherent environmental and security disaster risks. Therefore, there is an increasing interest in seaports that are more socially inclusive, addressing the storage of containers of hazardous goods to safe inland terminals. An appropriate design of inland terminals for containers with dangerous goods (ITDGs) may contribute to the achievement of a sustainable development and the minimization of risks, avoiding disasters such as Tianjin. The objective of this study was the analysis of the criteria used for the design of safe, secure, cost efficient and greener ITDGs by applying the multicriteria decision theory AHP (analytic hierarchy process). Criteria regarding safety and security, environmental care, productivity and information and communication technologies (ICT) have been considered simultaneously into a total performance management system.
real.
Active Power Filter implementation is one of the most efficient solutions for problems
which raises non-linear loads in the electric net and proliferation of the distributed
charges which are coming from the connection of renewable energy sources. The
active filter design and its control algorithm can do with the real time simulation
“Hardware in the loop” (HIL). These simulations work as interface between the
mathematician model of all dynamic elements, which relate to the under control
electric system, and the integrated system which is under test. In this project, the
simulation in the virtual machine of Typhoon HIL has been developed, including the
filter active model and its control algorithm. After checking the model, the algorithm
has been implanted in a digital signal processor card. To write the necessary
programming code in this embedded system under test, Simulink of Matlab and
Code Composer Studio tools are used. In general, results have been satisfactory, so
the designed model give us the chance of implementing physically the system with

Acoustic species distribution models (aSDMs): A framework to forecast shifts in calling behaviour under climate change
Species distribution models (SDMs) are a key tool for biogeography and climate change research, although current approaches have some significant drawbacks. The use of species occurrence constrains predictions of correlative models, while there is a general lack of eco-physiological data to develop mechanistic models. Passive acoustic monitoring is an emerging technique in ecology that may help to overcome these limitations. By remotely tracking animal behaviour across species geographical ranges, researchers can estimate the climatic breadth of species activity and provide a baseline for refined predictive models. However, such integrative approach still remains to be developed. Here, we propose the following: (a) a general and transferable method to build acoustic SDMs, a novel tool combining acoustic and biogeographical information, (b) a detailed comparison with standard correlative and mechanistic models, (c) a step-by-step guide to develop aSDMs and (d) a study case to assess their effectiveness and illustrate model outputs, using a year-round monitoring of calling behaviour of the Iberian tree frog at the thermal extremes of its distribution range. This method aims at forecasting changes in environmental suitability for acoustic communication, a key and climate-dependent behaviour for a wide variety of animal taxa. aSDMs identified strong associations between calling behaviour and local environmental conditions and showed robust and consistent predictive performance using two alternative models (regression and boundary). Furthermore, these models better captured climatic variation than correlative models as they use observations at higher temporal resolution. These results support aSDMs as efficient tools to model calling behaviour under future climate scenarios. The proposed approach offers a promising basis to explore the capacity of vocal species to deal with climate change, supported by an innovative integration of two disciplines: bioacoustics and biogeography. aSMDs are grounded on ecologically realistic conditions and provide spatially and temporally explicit predictions on calling behaviour, with direct implications in reproduction and survival. This enables to precisely forecast shifts in breeding phenology, geographic distribution or species persistence. Our study demonstrates how acoustic monitoring may represent an increasingly valuable tool for climate change researchConsejería de Educación e Investigación,

Heavy metals as an indicator of ecological impact of a fragmented land uses, San Luis Potosi, Mexico
agropecuario, residencial rural, comercio y
servicios, residencial urbano y minero. Los
muestreos se realizaron en cuatro épocas
durante 2009 y 2010 (verano, otoño, invierno y
primavera).
The need to study the presence of heavy
metals in the soil lies on their impact as a indicator
of environmental pollution. Therefore, it was
determined the presence of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd
in soils where plant species were distributed in
an ecological corridor. Among the municipalities
of Soledad Graciano Sanchez and San Luis
Potosi (Mexico), 30 points were established,
distributed in five land uses: agricultural , rural
residential, trade and services, urban residential
and mining. Sampling was conducted from
2009 to 2010 (summer, fall, winter and spring).
A significant effect of land use was found in
terms of Cu (p = 0.000), Pb (p = 0.043) and
Cd (p = 0.010). In the case of Zn both the land
use (p = 0.000) and season (p = 0.059) had
significant effects. It is emphasized that mining
land use presented the highest concentrations
of the studied metals and agricultural land use
the lowest. The levels of four metals are in the
range marked like high by the EPA and other
technical sources. The levels of Pb and Cd do not
exceed the NOM-147-SEMARNAT-SSA1. These
results reflect the indicative potential of the soil
and its consideration for future to evaluate the
habitat of plant species. These results reflect the
potential indicative land use in the assessment
of environmental quality, however, requires
continued monitoring of heavy metals in the area.Fil: Alcalá Jáuregui, Jorge.

Vegetative as bioindicators of heavy metals in a semiarid system
usos suelo y temporalidad. El área se sitúa en
la colindancia de los Municipios de Soledad
de Graciano Sánchez y San Luis Potosí
fragmentada por usos de suelo: agropecuario,
comercio y servicios, residencial urbano y
minero.
Plomo (Pb) > Cobre (Cu) > Titanio (Ti) >
Vanadio (V) > Arsénico (As) > Cromo (Cr) >
Cadmio (Cd) > Cobalto (Co).
The evaluation of pollution by heavy metals

the effect of different of land uses and seasons.
The area is located near of the municipalities
of Soledad de Graciano Sánchez and San
Luis Potosi which has fragmented land use
such as: agriculture, commercial and services,
urban residential and mining. Samples were
taken from leaves of the three species during
summer, autumn, winter and spring to assess
the concentrations of heavy metals through
the technique of ICP-MS. Statistical analyzes
showed levels of Aluminum (Al) > Zinc (Zn)
> Lead (Pb) > Copper (Cu) > Titanium (Ti) >
Vanadium (V) > Arsenic (As) > Chromium (Cr)
> Cadmium (Cd) > Cobalt (Co). The elements
Al, As, Cd, Cr, Pb and Ti had levels above the
normal threshold in vegetation. Land use had a
significant effect with Al, Ti, Cd, As and Pb having
the trees being located in the land with mining
and commercial and services use the greater
concentrations. The species had a significant
effect on Al and Pb with Acacia spp., having
the largest storage capacity. The season of the
year significantly impacted the accumulation of
As, Cd, Co, Cu, Cr and Ti in the three species.
The anthropogenic dynamics of different land
uses generated waste particles and residues
of heavy metals, impacting the availability and
accumulation in the species evaluated. This
study contribute to evaluate the environmental
impact in the system with a fragmented land
use and the continuation of this type of studies
is recommended.Fil: Alcalá Jáuregui, Jorge.

Superficial Characteristics and Functionalization Effectiveness of Non-Toxic Glutathione-Capped Magnetic, Fluorescent, Metallic and Hybrid Nanoparticles for Biomedical Applications
An optimal design of nanoparticles suitable for biomedical applications requires proper functionalization, a key step in the synthesis of such nanoparticles, not only for subsequent crosslinking to biological targets and to avoid cytotoxicity, but also to endow these materials with colloidal stability. In this sense, a reliable characterization of the effectiveness of the functionalization process would, therefore, be crucial for subsequent bioconjugations. In this work, we have analyzed glutathione as a means to functionalize four of the most widely used nanoparticles in biomedicine, one of which is a hybrid gold-magnetic-iron-oxide nanoparticle synthetized by a simple and novel method that we propose in this article. We have analyzed the colloidal characteristics that the glutathione capping provides to the different nanoparticles and, using information on the Z-potential, we have deduced the chemical group used by glutathione to link to the nanoparticle core. We have used electron microscopy for further structural and chemical characterization of the nanoparticles. Finally, we have evaluated nanoparticle cytotoxicity, studying cell viability after incubation with different concentrations of nanoparticles, showing their suitability for biomedical applications
