This paper deals with the comparison of the seamless pulling process of precision seamless tubes using two different reductions from the viewpoint of geometrical stability using computerized tomography, from the point of view of mechanical properties, from the point of view of the surface temperature in the arrangement of the tribological tube-tool pair. Validation of the pipe drawing process also took place based on the finite element method in the simulation program DEFORM 3D. From the point of view of production rationalization, it is necessary to analyze stress and deformation states at different input dimensions for a particular final dimension for a given drawing method, in this case, a drawing whiteout plug method was used

Trapping and patterning of biological objects using photovoltaic tweezers

Photovoltaic tweezers are a recently proposed technique for manipulation and patterning of micro- and nano-objects. It is based in the dielectrophoretic forces associated to the electric fields induced by illumination of certain ferroelectrics due to the bulk photovoltaic effect. The technique has been applied to the patterning of dielectric and metal micro- and nano-particles. In this work, we report the use of photovoltaic tweezers to pattern biological objects on LiNbO3:Fe. Specifically, spores and pollen grains and their nanometric fragments have been trapped and patterned. 1D and 2D arrangements have been achieved by deposition in air or from a hexane suspension. The quality of patterns obtained with nanometric fragments is even better than previous results using photovoltaic tweezers with inorganic micro- and nano-particles. In fact, 1D patterns with a period of 2 μm, almost half of the minimum reported period achieved with photovoltaic tweezers, have been obtained with pollen fragmentsThis work was supported by Spanish projects MAT2011-28379-C03 and MAT2014-57704-C0

In this paper, we investigate a realistic and low- cost deployment of large scale direct control of inelastic home appliances whose energy demand cannot be shaped, but simply deferred. The idea is to exploit 1) some simple actuators to be placed on the electric plugs for connecting or disconnecting appliances with heterogeneous control interfaces, including non- smart appliances, and 2) the Internet connections of customers for transporting the activation requests from the actuators to a centralized controller. Our solution requires no interaction with home users: in particular, it does not require them to express their energy demand in advance. A queuing theory model is derived to quantify how many users should adopt this solution in order to control a significant aggregated power load without significantly impairing their quality of service

Amphiregulin contained in NSCLC-exosomes induces osteoclast differentiation through the activation of EGFR pathway

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. The majority of patients are diagnosed in advanced disease stage. Bone metastasis is the most frequent complication in NSCLC resulting in osteolytic lesions. The perfect balance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts activity is lost in bone metastasis, inducing osteoclastogenesis. In NSCLC, the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) pathway is constitutively activated. EGFR binds Amphiregulin (AREG) that is overexpressed in several cancers such as colon, breast and lung. Its levels in plasma of NSCLC patients correlate with poor prognosis and AREG was recently found as a signaling molecule in exosomes derived from cancer cell lines. Exosomes have a key role in the cell-cell communication and they were recently indicated as important actors in metastatic niche preparation. In the present work, we hypothesize a role of AREG carried by exosomes derived from NSCLC in bone metastasis induction. We observed that NSCLC-exosomes, containing AREG, induce EGFR pathway activation in pre-osteoclasts that in turn causes an increased expression of RANKL. RANKL is able to induce the expression of proteolytic enzymes, well-known markers of osteoclastogenesis, triggering a vicious cycle in osteolytic bone metastasis

A 35-year-old man was admitted to a hospital in the south of Italy because of a periocular nodule and subpalpebral edema. The patient reported having been stayed in Tanzania five months before. Hematologic parameters were within the normality range, the Acanthocheilonema viteae ELISA did not detect significant levels of antifilarial IgG, and no further symptoms were described. The surgical inspection of the nodule led to the isolation of two filarioid parasites, identified as Dirofilaria repens by scanning electron microscope (SEM), and then by molecular assays. Knott's test did not reveal microfilaremia, whereas loop-mediated isothermal amplification andPCRdetected D. repens DNA. The patient was treated with doxycycline, and he was found no more positive at the follow-up

A search for heavy Kaluza-Klein electroweak gauge bosons at the LHC

The feasibility for the observation of a certain leptonic Kaluza-Klein (KK) hard process in {\em pp} interactions at the LHC is presented. Within the S1/Z2S^1/Z_2 TeV1^{-1} extra dimensional theoretical framework with the focus on the KK excitations of the Standard Model γ\gamma and Z0Z^0 gauge bosons, the hard-process, ffˉn(γ/Z)nFFˉf\bar f \to \sum_n\left(\gamma^*/Z^*\right)_n \to F \bar F, has been used where ff is the initial state parton, FF the final state lepton and (γ/Z)n\left(\gamma^*/Z^*\right)_{n} is the nthn^{\rm th} KK excitation of the γ/Z0\gamma/Z^0 boson. For this study the analytic form for the hard process cross section has been independently calculated by the authors and has been implemented using the {\sc Moses} framework. The Moses framework itself, that has been written by the authors, was used as an external process within the {\sc Pythia} Monte Carlo generator which provides the phase space generation for the final state leptons and partons from the initial state hadrons, and the simulation of initial and final state radiation and hadronization. A brief discussion of the possibility for observing and identifying the unique signature of the KK signal given the current LHC program is also presented.Comment: 16 pages 10 figures, MCnet number: MCnet/10/06, Accepted by JHE
