The over usage and over dependency on digital devices, like smartphones, has been considered as a growing international epidemic. The increased dependency on gadgets, especially smartphones for personal and official uses, has also brought many detrimental effects on individual users. Hence it is vital to understand the negative effects of smartphone usage on human. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the effects of bedtime smartphone usage on work performances, interpersonal conflicts, and work engagement, via the mediating role of sleep quality among employees. Using a cross-sectional study design, a questionnaire-based field survey was conducted on 315 employees who participated as respondents. The results confirmed the negative effects of bedtime smartphone usage on sleep quality. Along with it, the effects of sleep quality on work performances, work engagements and interpersonal conflicts were also proven to be statistically significant. Regarding the mediating role of sleep quality, it was empirically evident that sleep quality mediates the relationship between bedtime smartphone usage with work performances and interpersonal conflicts. The findings revealed that bedtime smartphone usage reduces sleep quality among the employees, resulting in lower work performances and engagements while contributing to higher interpersonal conflicts. The findings concluded that smartphone usage before sleep increases the prospects of employees to be less productive, less engaged, and have more workplace conflicts. The findings warrant the continued managerial as well as academic research attention, as the smartphones are now used by many organisations to run businesses as well

Background Post-partum haemorrhage is the leading cause of maternal death worldwide. Early administration of tranexamic acid reduces deaths due to bleeding in trauma patients. We aimed to assess the effects of early administration of tranexamic acid on death, hysterectomy, and other relevant outcomes in women with post-partum haemorrhage. Methods In this randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial, we recruited women aged 16 years and older with a clinical diagnosis of post-partum haemorrhage after a vaginal birth or caesarean section from 193 hospitals in 21 countries. We randomly assigned women to receive either 1 g intravenous tranexamic acid or matching placebo in addition to usual care. If bleeding continued after 30 min, or stopped and restarted within 24 h of the first dose, a second dose of 1 g of tranexamic acid or placebo could be given. Patients were assigned by selection of a numbered treatment pack from a box containing eight numbered packs that were identical apart from the pack number. Participants, care givers, and those assessing outcomes were masked to allocation. We originally planned to enrol 15 000 women with a composite primary endpoint of death from all-causes or hysterectomy within 42 days of giving birth. However, during the trial it became apparent that the decision to conduct a hysterectomy was often made at the same time as randomisation. Although tranexamic acid could influence the risk of death in these cases, it could not affect the risk of hysterectomy. We therefore increased the sample size from 15 000 to 20 000 women in order to estimate the effect of tranexamic acid on the risk of death from post-partum haemorrhage. All analyses were done on an intention-to-treat basis. This trial is registered with ISRCTN76912190 (Dec 8, 2008); ClinicalTrials.gov, number NCT00872469; and PACTR201007000192283. Findings Between March, 2010, and April, 2016, 20 060 women were enrolled and randomly assigned to receive tranexamic acid (n=10 051) or placebo (n=10 009), of whom 10 036 and 9985, respectively, were included in the analysis. Death due to bleeding was significantly reduced in women given tranexamic acid (155 [1·5%] of 10 036 patients vs 191 [1·9%] of 9985 in the placebo group, risk ratio [RR] 0·81, 95% CI 0·65–1·00; p=0·045), especially in women given treatment within 3 h of giving birth (89 [1·2%] in the tranexamic acid group vs 127 [1·7%] in the placebo group, RR 0·69, 95% CI 0·52–0·91; p=0·008). All other causes of death did not differ significantly by group. Hysterectomy was not reduced with tranexamic acid (358 [3·6%] patients in the tranexamic acid group vs 351 [3·5%] in the placebo group, RR 1·02, 95% CI 0·88–1·07; p=0·84). The composite primary endpoint of death from all causes or hysterectomy was not reduced with tranexamic acid (534 [5·3%] deaths or hysterectomies in the tranexamic acid group vs 546 [5·5%] in the placebo group, RR 0·97, 95% CI 0·87-1·09; p=0·65). Adverse events (including thromboembolic events) did not differ significantly in the tranexamic acid versus placebo group. Interpretation Tranexamic acid reduces death due to bleeding in women with post-partum haemorrhage with no adverse effects. When used as a treatment for postpartum haemorrhage, tranexamic acid should be given as soon as possible after bleeding onset. The present study explored the perceptions of secondary English language teachers regarding the in-house professional development courses they attended and the influence of these courses on their practices. This study is conducted in two private high schools of ABC organization in the context of Gilgit Baltistan. Case study approach within qualitative research paradigm guided the study design. The research participants were two English language teachers who teach at secondary level. The data was collected from the ELTs through semi- structured interviews, classroom observations, formal and informal talks, and field notes and documents analysis. The findings of the study are developed into two separate cases and cross case analysis is done to identify the key findings. The findings of the study revealed that both the ELTs perceive in-house PD as an ongoing process to update themselves with new learnings and teaching techniques to cope with the challenges. ELTs also believe that other supporting factors like support from school context, principal, colleagues, family, their own self efforts and creativity, challenging students and their parents play significant role to grow professionally. The study also found that both ELTs have attended many general PD programmes, but few subject- based PD programmes. Both the ELTs demonstrated enhanced content and pedagogical skills during classroom teaching which showed that they have benefited from both formal and informal ways of PD. However, the findings also revealed some of the hindrances in implementation of learnings from PD. These included theory practice gap, limited subject and context relevant PD courses, lack of research based PD, problems of dealing variety of students, parent’s involvement and IT integrated teaching. There is little difference found in the perceptions and practices of both the ELTs. However, challenges differ in some ways due to personal and contextual differences. The findings of the study suggested pedagogical content knowledge based ongoing PD to further enhance ELTs content and pedagogical skills

Aim: This study critically reviews the employee voice literature and demonstrate the shift of voice arrangement from employee-oriented to organizational-oriented.Methods: The previous researches and theories concerning management and employee voice were examined, and a conceptual framework of different phases of the flow of employee voice in an organization was developed. The scales adapted to measure employee voice since 1983 to 2015 were scrutinized.Findings: The finding shows that the scales used in literature are fundamentally measuring the Traditional Employee Voice (TEV), which lacks the ability to cover the overall dimensions of the Modern Employee Voice (MEV).Results: The result shows that the TEV is one-way communication process while the MEV is two-way communication process. The effect of this result on future studies was evaluated.</p

The purpose of this study was to elucidate the various factors that form the basis for a good encounter with young people who have mental illness from the perspective of the professionals, as well as what challenges can be experienced in such meetings. Data collection was done through qualitative interviews with six social workers. The material was analyzed by a thematic analysis. The theoretical starting points used in this study were solution focused theory and Goffman's theory of stigma. The result of the study shows that a good encounter is based on mutual respect, understanding and security between the social worker and the youth. In addition, the social worker should possess knowledge and experience, be responsive, empathetic, patient and show acceptance in order to have a good approach. It also emerged that social workers may experience challenges in encounters with young people, such as that young people are contradictory to seek help, lack of motivation, or that young people’s mental illness is so bad that they are unable to seek help

The ubiquity of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in every school framework in the world has become a trend. With ASEAN integration problems in 2015, can fresh and younger HEI's and their students cope with this trend? The goal of this analysis is to decide the preparedness and role of new HEI students in the field of ICT education. In this study a concise template utilizing a researcher-made questionnaire (α=.971) was used. The research findings show that students at college have a optimistic declaration ('agreement') on ICT use in education (x=3.71; S=.75). This was also shown that sex greatly affects the mindset of students (z=3.91, p=.00), where male attitudes are higher (x=3.91) than female attitudes (x=3.61). Moreover, it demonstrates that preparedness for ICT in general has little to do with the mindset of students towards the usage of ICT in school. Nonetheless, there is a important marginal positive association between ICT access and an attitude of significance to 0.05 (r=.15; p=.002; single-tailed), which suggests that the more a student gets introduced to ICT, the more he develops his attitude to ICT education. It was believed that ICT-based curriculum can be readily adopted and modified for the next several years by complete ICT adoption as the current educational framework. Current and younger HEIs will also spend more in ICT Accessibility and Connectivity to further boost ICT-based awareness and preparedness
