Procedures for a competency/performance based education program according to Bandura\u27s social cognitive theory
Dieser Beitrag berichtet über ein Trainingsverfahren zur Kompetenzanbahnung in Großgruppen. Im Sommersemester 1991 wurden 54 Studierende der Pädagogischen Hochschule Schwäbisch Gmünd in einer zweistündigen Semesterveranstaltung im Zuhören, Eingehen auf Beiträge, Fragenstellen, Führen bestimmter Gespräche und in der Moderation von Diskussionen geschult. In Anlehnung an Banduras sozial kognitive Theorie liefen die einzelnen Veranstaltungen stets in drei Phasen ab: Die Aufmerksamkeit der Teilnehmerinnen wurde auf die zu erwerbende Kompetenz gelenkt; sodann erging die Aufforderung, sich gegenseitig die Wahrnehmungen mitzuteilen, und gegen Ende wurden die Handlungsspektren oder -strukturen gemeinsam erarbeitet. Die Teilnehmerinnen wurden schließlich mit der Aufforderung entlassen, die Bewusstseinsinhalte verfügbar zu halten, um im Berufsfeld der Einsicht entsprechend handeln zu können. Die Unterschiede hinsichtlich der kognitiven Repräsentanzen waren sowohl auf der Vor- und Nachtest-Basis als auch zwischen männlichen und weiblichen Teilnehmerinnen signifikant. (DIPF/Orig.)This article refers to a special procedure for a Competency/Performance Based Teacher Education Program. 54 students of the Teacher Training College in Schwäbisch Gmünd have been trained in specific competencies and Performances in classroom interaction such as listening, encouraging, questioning, and leading discussions. Following the mastery learning concept the participants were involved into attentional processes, retention processes, and production processes according to Bandura\u27s social cognitive theory. The students had to undergo a pretest and a posttest to check up the cognitive representations. Citrullination Licenses Calpain to Decondense Nuclei in Neutrophil Extracellular Trap Formation
Neutrophils respond to various stimuli by decondensing and releasing nuclear chromatin characterized by citrullinated histones as neutrophil extracellular traps (NETs). This achieves pathogen immobilization or initiation of thrombosis, yet the molecular mechanisms of NET formation remain elusive. Peptidyl arginine deiminase-4 (PAD4) achieves protein citrullination and has been intricately linked to NET formation. Here we show that citrullination represents a major regulator of proteolysis in the course of NET formation. Elevated cytosolic calcium levels trigger both peptidylarginine deiminase-4 (PAD4) and calpain activity in neutrophils resulting in nuclear decondensation typical of NETs. Interestingly, PAD4 relies on proteolysis by calpain to achieve efficient nuclear lamina breakdown and chromatin decondensation. Pharmacological or genetic inhibition of PAD4 and calpain strongly inhibit chromatin decondensation of human and murine neutrophils in response to calcium ionophores as well as the proteolysis of nuclear proteins like lamin B1 and high mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB1). Taken together, the concerted action of PAD4 and calpain induces nuclear decondensation in the course of calcium-mediated NET formation

Insiders, Outsiders, and the Struggle for Consecration in Cultural Fields: A Core-Periphery Perspective
Building on recent research emphasizing how legitimacy depends on consensus among audiences about candidates’ characteristics and activities, we examine the relationship between cultural producers’ (candidates) position in the social structure and the consecration of their creative work by relevant audiences. We argue that the outcome of this process of evaluation in any cultural field, whether in art or science, is a function of (1) candidates’ embeddedness within the field, and (2) the type of audience—that is, peers versus critics—evaluating candidates’ work. Specifically, we hypothesize that peers are more likely to favor candidates who are highly embedded in the field, whereas critics will not show such favoritism. We find support for these hypotheses in the context of the Hollywood motion picture industry
Dark Matter Candidates: A Ten-Point Test
An extraordinarily rich zoo of non-baryonic Dark Matter candidates has been

Sequential FDG-PET and induction chemotherapy in locally advanced adenocarcinoma of the Oesophago-gastric junction (AEG): The Heidelberg Imaging program in Cancer of the oesophago-gastric junction during Neoadjuvant treatment: HICON trial
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>18-Fluorodeoxyglucose-PET (<sup>18</sup>F-FDG-PET) can be used for early response assessment in patients with locally advanced adenocarcinomas of the oesophagogastric junction (AEG) undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy. It has been recently shown in the MUNICON trials that response-guided treatment algorithms based on early changes of the FDG tumor uptake detected by PET are feasible and that they can be implemented into clinical practice.</p> <p>Only 40%-50% of the patients respond metabolically to therapy. As metabolic non-response is known to be associated with a dismal prognosis, metabolic non-responders are increasingly treated with alternative neoadjuvant chemotherapies or chemoradiation in order to improve their clinical outcome. We plan to investigate whether PET can be used as response assessment during radiochemotherapy given as salvage treatment in early metabolic non-responders to standard chemotherapy.</p> <p>Methods/Design</p> <p>The HICON trial is a prospective, non-randomized, explorative imaging study evaluating the value of PET as a predictor of histopathological response in metabolic non-responders. Patients with resectable AEG type I and II according to Siewerts classification, staged cT3/4 and/or cN+ and cM0 by endoscopic ultrasound, spiral CT or MRI and FDG-PET are eligible. Tumors must be potentially R0 resectable and must have a sufficient FDG-baseline uptake. Only metabolic non-responders, showing a < 35% decrease of SUV two weeks after the start of neoadjuvant chemotherapy are eligible for the study and are taken to intensified taxane-based RCT (chemoradiotherapy (45 Gy) before surgery. <sup>18</sup>FDG-PET scans will be performed before ( = Baseline) and after 14 days of standard neoadjuvant therapy as well as after the first cycle of salvage docetaxel/cisplatin chemotherapy (PET 1) and at the end of radiochemotherapy (PET2). Tracer uptake will be assessed semiquantitatively using standardized uptake values (SUV). The percentage difference ΔSUV = 100 (SUV<sub>Baseline </sub>- SUV <sub>PET1</sub>)/SUV<sub>Baseline </sub>will be calculated and assessed as an early predictor of histopathological response. In a secondary analysis, the association between the difference SUV<sub>PET1 </sub>- SUV<sub>PET2 </sub>and histopathological response will be evaluated.</p> <p>Discussion</p> <p>The aim of this study is to investigate the potential of sequential <sup>18</sup>FDG-PET in predicting histopathological response in AEG tumors to salvage neoadjuvant radiochemotherapy in patients who do not show metabolic response to standard neoadjuvant chemotherapy.</p> <p>Trial Registration</p> <p>Clinical trial identifier <a href="http://www.clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT01271322">NCT01271322</a></p
K0s K0s Final State in Two-Photon Collisions and Implications for Glueballs
The K0s K0s final state in two-photon collisions is studied with the L3
detector at LEP. The mass spectrum is dominated by the formation of the
f_2'(1525) tensor meson in the helicity-two state with a two-photon width times
the branching ratio into K Kbar of 76 +- 6 +- 11 eV. A clear signal for the
formation of the f_J(1710) is observed and it is found to be dominated by the
spin-two helicity-two state. No resonance is observed in the mass region around
2.2 GeV and an upper limit of 1.4 eV at 95% C.L. is derived for the two-photon
width times the branching ratio into K0s K0s for the glueball candidate
xi(2230)
Formation of the in Two-Photon Collisions at LEP
The two-photon width of the meson has been
measured with the L3 detector at LEP. The is studied in the decay
modes , KK, KK,
KK, , , and
using an integrated luminosity of 140 pb at GeV and
of 52 pb at GeV. The result is
(BR) keV. The dependence of the cross section is studied for
GeV. It is found to be better described by a Vector Meson
Dominance model form factor with a J-pole than with a -pole. In addition,
a signal of events is observed at the mass. Upper limits
for the two-photon widths of the , , and are also
given
Search for Scalar Leptons in e+e- collisions at \sqrt{s}=189 GeV
We report the result of a search for scalar leptons in e+e- collisions at 189
GeV centre-of-mass energy at LEP. No evidence for such particles is found in a
data sample of 176 pb^{-1}. Improved upper limits are set on the production
cross sections for these new particles. New exclusion contours in the parameter
space of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model are derived, as well as new
lower limits on the masses of these supersymmetric particles. Under the
assumptions of common gaugino and scalar masses at the GUT scale, we set an
absolute lower limit on the mass of the lightest scalar electron of 65.5 Ge
Direct Observation of Longitudinally Polarised W Bosons
The three different helicity states of W bosons, produced in the reaction
e+e- -> W+W- -> l nu q q~ are studied using leptonic and hadronic W decays at
sqrt{s}=183GeV and 189GeV. The W polarisation is also measured as a function of
the scattering angle between the W- and the direction of the e- beam. The
analysis demonstrates that W bosons are produced with all three helicities, the
longitudinal and the two transverse states. Combining the results from the two
center-of-mass energies and with leptonic and hadronic W decays, the fraction
of longitudinally polarised W bosons is measured to be 0.261 +/- 0.051(stat.)
+/- 0.016(syst.) in agreement with the expectation from the Standard Model
