An ontology knowledge inspection methodology for quality assessment and continuous improvement
Ontology-learning methods were introduced in the knowledge engineering area to automatically build ontologies from natural language texts related to a domain. Despite the initial appeal of these methods, automatically generated ontologies may have errors, inconsistencies, and a poor design quality, all of which must be manually fixed, in order to maintain the validity and usefulness of automated output. In this work, we propose a methodology to assess ontologies quality (quantitatively and graphically) and to fix ontology inconsistencies minimising design defects. The proposed methodology is based on the Deming cycle and is grounded on quality standards that proved effective in the software engineering domain and present high potential to be extended to knowledge engineering quality management. This paper demonstrates that software engineering quality assessment approaches and techniques can be successfully extended and applied to the ontology-fixing and quality improvement problem. The proposed methodology was validated in a testing ontology, by ontology design quality comparison between a manually created and automatically generated ontology.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
A Comparison of Cybersecurity Risk Analysis Tools
This paper presents the ongoing work of a decision aiding software intended to support cyber risk and cyber threats analysis of an information and communications technology infrastructure. The work focuses on the evaluation of the different tools in relation to risk assessment and decision making to incorporate some of the characteristics, metrics and strategies that will help cybersecurity risk analysis, decision-making, prevention measures and risk strategies for infrastructure and the protection of an organization's information assets
Enzymatic synthesis of SFAEs using the commercial ionic liquid CYPHOS 104
Sugar fatty acid esters (SFAEs) are compounds formed by a carbohydrate linked to one or more fatty acid (FA) chains. These molecules present interesting technological properties and are commonly used as biodegradable surfactants and emulsifiers in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries [1]. Recently, the synthesis of SFAEs using enzymes as biocatalysts proved to be a greener alternative. The main problem associated with the synthesis of SFAEs is the different chemical nature of the substrates, which can significantly affect the effectiveness of the enzymatic synthesis and greatly compromise the yield of the process. Lipases are quite stable biocatalysts and have been successfully used in traditional media and alternative media containing ionic liquids (ILs) [2,3]. ILs present an interesting strategy to overcome the process limitations since they generally increase enzyme stability and can be tailored to improve the solubility of a wide range of substrates. Moreover, ILs are non-volatile, non-flammable, chemically and thermally stable and biocompatible being greener alternatives to the hazardous and volatile organic solvents commonly applied [4].
In the present work, the enzymatic synthesis of SFAEs in the commercial IL CYPHOS 104 was followed and qualitatively evaluated by thin layer chromatography. The esterification between a disaccharide and vinyl laurate was performed by immobilized Lipase B from Candida antarctica, at 60 °C, using two agitation strategies (rotatory and orbital). The results showed that SFAEs were successfully biosynthesized in the IL CYPHOS 104 using a rotatory agitation. We thank the Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do estado de São Paulo (process 2018/07522-6; 2014/50884-5), and Conselho Nacional de Dsenvolvimento Científico (process 301963/2017-7; 465319/2014-9).info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Ability of salt marsh plants for TBT remediation in sediments
The capability of Halimione portulacoides,
Spartina maritima, and Sarcocornia fruticosa (halophytes
very commonly found in salt marshes from Mediterranean
areas) for enhancing remediation of tributyltin (TBT) from
estuarine sediments was investigated, using different experimental
conditions
Review: Quality of Life in Lower Limb Peripheral Vascular Surgery
PURPOSE:
Vascular intervention studies generally consider patency and limb salvage as primary outcomes. However, quality of life is increasingly considered an important patient-oriented outcome measurement of vascular interventions. Existing literature was analyzed to determine the effect of different treatments on quality of life for patients suffering from either claudication or critical limb ischemia.
BASIC METHODS:
A review of the literature was undertaken in the Medline library. A search was performed on quality of life in peripheral arterial disease. Results were stratified according to treatment groups.
PRINCIPAL FINDINGS:
Twenty-one articles described quality of life in approximately 4600 patients suffering from peripheral arterial disease. Invasive treatment generally results in better quality of life scores (at a maximum of 2 years of follow-up), compared with non-invasive treatment. In patients with critical limb ischemia, successful revascularization improves quality of life scores. Only one study reported long-term results.
CONCLUSIONS:
Increase in quality of life scores can be found for any intervention performed for peripheral arterial disease. However, there is scarce information on long-term quality of life after vascular intervention.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
