Análise do polimorfismo genético do Paracoccidioides brasiliensis e Paracoccidioides cerebriformis "Moore" pela técnica de amplificação aleatória do polimorfismo do DNA (RAPD) e sequenciamento do DNA ribossomal 28S: Paracoccidioides cerebriformis revisitado
Our purpose was to compare the genetic polymorphism of six samples of P. brasiliensis (113, 339, BAT, T1F1, T3B6, T5LN1), with four samples of P. cerebriformis (735, 741, 750, 361) from the Mycological Laboratory of the Instituto de Medicina Tropical de São Paulo, using Random Amplified Polymorphic DNA Analysis (RAPD). RAPD profiles clearly segregated P. brasiliensis and P. cerebriformis isolates. However, the variation on band patterns among P. cerebriformis isolates was high. Sequencing of the 28S rDNA gene showed nucleotide conservancy among P. cerebriformis isolates, providing basis for taxonomical grouping, and disclosing high divergence to P. brasiliensis supporting that they are in fact two distinct species. Moreover, DNA sequence suggests that P. cerebriformis belongs in fact to the Aspergillus genus.

Data information system to promote the organization data of collections - modeling considerations by the Unified Modelign Language (UML)
It can be argued that technological developments (e.g., measuring instruments like software, satellite and computers, as well as, the cheapening of storage media) allow organizations to produce and acquire a great amount of data in a short time. Due to the data volume, research organizations become potentially vulnerable to the information explosion impacts. An adopted solution is the use of information system tools to assist data documentation, retrieval and analysis. In the scientific scope, these tools are developed to store different metadata (data about data) patterns. During the development process of these tools, the adoption of standards such as the Unified Modeling Language (UML) stands out, whose diagrams assist the different scopes of software modeling. The objective of this study is to present an information system tool that assists organizations in the data documentation through the use of metadata and that highlights the software modeling process, through the UML. The Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata will be approached, widely used to the dataset cataloging by scientific organizations around the world, and the dynamic and static UML diagrams like use cases, sequence and classes. The development of the information system tools can be a way to promote the scientific data organization and dissemination. However, the modeling process requires special attention during the development of interfaces that will stimulate the use of the information system tools.
PURPOSE: To evaluate the functional activity of the classical and alternative pathways of the complement system and the levels of C3, C4, and factor B during the first episode of meningococcal infection and during the convalescence period. PATIENTS AND METHODS: Ten Brazilian children ranging in age from 8 months to 8 years, admitted from 1991 to 1993 with a clinical-laboratory diagnosis of meningococcal meningitis, were studied during acute infection (up to 7 days from diagnosis) and during the convalescence period (1 to 6 months after the acute episode). C3, C4, and Factor B were measured using nephelometry, and the lytic activity of classical and alternative pathways were evaluated by a kinetic method and expressed as the time needed to lyse 50% of an erythrocyte suspension (T1/2, expressed in seconds). Low T1/2 values for classical and alternative pathways correlate with high activities of the classical and alternative complement pathways, respectively. RESULTS: A significant difference was observed between the alternative pathway lytic activity during infection and the convalescence period (282 vs 238 seconds, respectively, P = .01). No differences were detected in the other complement parameters analyzed. CONCLUSIONS: In the presence of meningococcal meningitis, the alternative pathway is preferentially activated. This is probably due to the greater ability of the meningococcal endotoxin to activate this pathway in vivo.OBJETIVO: Avaliar a atividade funcional das vias clássica e alternativa do sistema complemento e os nÃveis de C3, C4 e fator B durante o primeiro episódio de infecção meningocócica e durante a convalescença.
Simulation of non-radiative energy transfer in photosynthetic systems using a quantum computer
Photosynthesis is an important and complex physical process in nature, whose
comprehensive understanding would have many relevant industrial applications,
for instance in the field of energy production. In this paper we propose a
quantum algorithm for the simulation of the excitonic transport of energy,
occurring in the first stage of the process of photosynthesis. The algorithm
takes in account the quantum and environmental effects (pure-dephasing),
influencing the quantum transport. We performed quantum simulations of such
phenomena, for a proof of concept scenario, in an actual quantum computer the
IBM Q, of 5 qubits. We validate the results with the Haken-Str\"obl model and
discuss the influence of environmental parameters on the efficiency of the
energy transport.POCI-01-0145-FEDER-03094
Association of the Occurrence of Ant Species (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) with Soil Attributes, Vegetation, and Climate in the Brazilian Savanna Northeastern Region
Ants occur in all strata of tropical forest by nesting, foraging and interacting with plants and other resident in these habitats. It is know that a large number of ant species live in the leaflitter and soil. This study aim to know if the occurrence of the species of ants from Cerrado of the Northeastern State of Maranhão depends on the attributes of soils and climatic factors. We found 48 species of ants, and ten of them had highest importance value, and are correlated with the soil properties, litter biomass, basal area, humidity and temperature, by using principal component analysis (PCA). The soil properties (density, porosity, particle size, aggregate stability index, and levels of Mg2+, Ca2+, carbon and potential acidity); vegetation (basal area and dry mass of litter) and temperature and humidity at soil level affect the occurrence of the following ants species Camponotus comatulus Mackay, 2010, Ectatomma muticum Mayr, 1870, Pseudomyrmex boopis (Roger, 1863), Pseudomyrmex termitarius (Smith, 1855), Dinoponera gigantea (Peerty, 1833), Ochetomyrmex neopolitus Fernández, 2003, Crematogaster cf acuta, Pheidole casta Wheeler, 1908, Solenopsis bruesi Creighton, 1930 and Solenopsis.
Background: Sprint running is a key factor of performance for team sports as football and futsal. Force-power-velocity relationships and mechanical effectiveness have been recently used to analyse force-velocity (F-V) profiles. The aim of this study was two-fold: (1) to quantify the sprint mechanical F-V profiles in Portuguese football and futsal players; (2) to analyse differences among sexes, competitive levels and sports on sprint mechanical variables in Portuguese football and futsal players.
Methods: Four football players (2 mens) and four futsal players (2 mens), aged 26 ± 4.24 years, performed a 3 maximal sprints of 30 m from a standing position with 4 min of rest between successive sprints. Video data was collected with a Go Pro Hero (Full HD 1080p, 30 fps). Force-velocity profile was obtained with time motion data: F0 (N/kg), V0 (m/s), Pmax (W/kg), Sfv, RFmax (%), DRF (%), Vopt (m/s) and max speed (m/s).
Results: Men’s players showed a higher V0 (t = -7.12;p<0.001,d=5.04),Vopt (t=-2.90;p≤ 0.05,d=2.05)andmaxspeed(t=-5.09;p≤ 0.05, d = 3.60) than women players. No differences with statistical significance were observed among competitive levels and sports.
Conclusion: These results showed that the sprint mechanical F-V profiles is able to distinguish between men and women football and futsal players. No differences among competitive levels could be due to the low competitive level of the sample. Future research should include different competitive level such as elite, sub-elite and recreational.
Results – Os jogadores masculinos mostraram umV0 (t=-7,12;p<0,001,d=5,04),Vopt (t=- 2,90; p ≤ 0,05, d = 2,05) e velocidade máxima (t =-5,09;p≤0,05,d=3,60)maisaltadoque nas jogadoras femininas.
Simultaneous thrombosis in two epicardial coronary arteries during acute myocardial infarction
Young patient with a history of smoking, hypertension and use of illicit drugs (cannabis, cocaine and crack) was admitted with precordial pain after physical exercise within the previous two hours. Electrocardiogram demonstrated ST segment elevation in leads V1 to V4 and the patient was referred to cardiac catheterization, which showed total occlusion of the left anterior descending artery and a large amount of thrombi in the right coronary artery. The patient was treated with direct stenting in the left anterior descending artery and triple antiplatelet therapy with aspirin, clopidogrel and abciximab in combination with non-fractioned heparin for 24 hours. Angiography and intravascular ultrasound assessment after 48 hours demonstrated a complete resolution of thrombi in both coronary arteries.
Aglomerações, arranjos produtivos locais e vantagens competitivas locacionais
Clusters have become an important theme in the economic literature as well as an integral part of development policies. However, some difficulties remain in developing an accurate definition to this concept. The most accepted proposition has some problems to be used within development countries. The concept derives a major part of its success from the fact that it was the only mechanism of industrial policy accepted within the mainstream that ruled the economic policy in the past few years. However, it is also useful to justify some policies oriented to increase the competitiveness of sectors with small barriers to entries and predominance of small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Thus, this policies have relatively easy and efficient application to less developed regions or countries
Chorea as the first manifestation of systemic Lupus erythematosus: a case report
Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a disorder of the immune system with a wide range of symptoms. The involvement of kidneys, lungs and central nervous system (CNS) denotes a more severe character and worse prognosis. Several neurological and psychiatric manifestations may be present, the most common being convulsion, neuropathies and acute confusional state, but chorea is seen in less than 2% of patients. Recent studies show that antiphospholipid antibodies (aPL) correlate with the appearance of chorea in SLE
