    Combined pitching and yawing motion of airplanes

    This report treats the following problems: The beginning of the investigated motions is always a setting of the lateral controls, i.e., the rudder or the ailerons. Now, the first interesting question is how the motion would proceed if these settings were kept unchanged for some time; and particularly, what upward motion would set in, how soon, and for how long, since therein lie the dangers of yawing. Two different motions ensue with a high rate of turn and a steep down slope of flight path in both but a marked difference in angle of attack and consequently different character in the resultant aerodynamic forces: one, the "corkscrew" dive at normal angle, and the other, the "spin" at high angle

    Chronic pain and sex differences:Women accept and move, while men feel blue

    Purpose The aim of this study is to explore differences between male and female patients entering a rehabilitation program at a pain clinic in order to gain a greater understanding of different approaches to be used in rehabilitation. Method 1371 patients referred to a specialty pain rehabilitation clinic, completed sociodemographic and pain related questionnaires. They rated their pain acceptance (CPAQ-8), their kinesiophobia (TSK), the impact of pain in their life (MPI), anxiety and depression levels (HAD) and quality of life scales: the SF-36, LiSat-11, and the EQ-5D. Because of the large sample size of the study, the significance level was set at the p amp;lt;= .01. Results Analysis by t-test showed that when both sexes experience the same pain severity, women report significantly higher activity level, pain acceptance and social support while men report higher kinesiophobia, mood disturbances and lower activity level. Conclusion Pain acceptance (CPAQ-8) and kinesiophobia (TSK) showed the clearest differences between men and women.     Cyclometalated Ir(III) Complexes for High-Efficiency Solution-Processable Blue PhOLEDs

    This article reports the systematic functionalization of FIrpic (1) with solubilizing alkyl groups (complexes 2–4) or mesityl groups (complexes 5 and 6). Complex 5 is shown to offer significant advantages over FIrpic (1) in terms of performance of sky-blue polymer-based phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PhOLEDs) with a solution-processed emitting layer (λmaxEL 477 nm for 5). Devices with 5 doped into poly(vinylcarbazole) (PVK):OXD-7 gave a maximum luminous efficiency of 19.1 cd A–1 at a brightness of 5455 cd m2 with EQE 8.7%. Optimized multilayer devices with additional TPBi and LiF layers gave 23.7 cd A–1 and EQE 10.4%. These data compare favorably with leading literature values for sky-blue polymer-based PhOLEDs. The enhanced performance of 5 is ascribed to three main reasons: (i) reduced concentration quenching of 5; (ii) the higher radiative yield of 5; and (iii) improved solubility of 5 in organic solvents. Complex 5 should find widespread use as a soluble blue phosphor for displays and lighting applications using solution processing techniques
