Exergames can be used to overcome a sedentary lifestyle. Virtual Reality (VR) has made exergames successful, and they can be used to increase heart rate, but some limitations are found, such as the adaptation of the heart rate in exergames to the player's fitness profile. VR technology has been used to simulate virtual cycling and walking experiences. We designed and developed an exergame' Virtual Levadas' in a cave-based VR environment to simulate the Levadas hiking tracks. They are the main attraction for tourists in Madeira Island, Portugal. This study's main objective was to assess player exertion, usability, participation, and realism of the simulation of the Levadas tracks. We performed this study with 13 participants who played Virtual Levadas for 6 minutes and found a significant increase in player's average physical activity and heart rate. Overall, our results demonstrate that Virtual Levada's exergame provides a higher exertion level, immersion, and realism of the virtual environment than the literature.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Kata Kunci: Kapabilitas Dinamik, Kompetensi Sumber Daya Manusia, Kinerja Inovasi, Industri Halal, Pandemi Covid-19   ABSTRACT   One of the obstacles in the development of the halal industry in Indonesia is human resources (HR), where there are still many HR who are not competent in developing the halal industry, especially small business entrepreneurs. Developing superior human resources is one of the main keys to developing the halal industry. The development of the halal industry in Indonesia must be carried out in an innovative and competitive manner. Halal industry business entrepreneurs are expected to have qualified innovation performance standards so they can take advantage of the post-Covid-19 pandemic momentum as a revival point for the halal industry after the Covid-19 pandemic. To support innovation and realize innovation performance for the development of the halal industry in Indonesia, competent human resources are needed. HR competency development is highly dependent on the commitment and dynamic capabilities of halal industry entrepreneurs. In global business competition, especially in the post-pandemic recovery of Covid-19, apart from paying attention to industry structure, halal industry players must also look at the internal perspective by carefully examining the resources they have and how to combine them to gain core competencies and competitive advantage. This study aims to analyze the effect of dynamic capabilities consisting of adaptive capabilities, absorptive capabilities, and innovative capabilities directly on innovation performance and indirectly through human resource competence as a mediating variable. The grand theory used in this study is the resource based view theory. The sample in this study were 170 small-scale halal industry entrepreneurs in South Sumatra. This research was processed using the Structural Equation Modeling analysis technique. The research results show that adaptive capabilities have a significant effect on HR competence and innovation performance. Meanwhile, absorptive capabilities have a significant effect on HR competence, but do not have a significant effect on innovation performance. Furthermore, innovative capabilities have a significant effect on innovation performance, but do not have a significant effect on HR competence. HR competency is only an intervening variable between the effect of adaptive capabilities and absorptive capabilities on innovation performance.   Keywords : Dynamic Capability, Human Resource Competence, Innovation Performance, Halal Industry, Covid-19 Pandemi

Alpinia monopleura is an endemic plant which widespread and abundant in Sulawesi. Nevertheless, previous studies have not studied the chemical compound and biological activity. This study describes the chemical compounds and antibacterial and antioxidant properties of the essential oils isolated from A. monopleura. The essential oil was obtained by the hydro distillation method and interpreted by GCMS. Antibacterial properties were determined by the agar diffusion method, while DPPH and ABTS determined antioxidant activity. The most important components are α-caryophyllene, β-pinene, limonene, α-pinene, β-caryophyllene and caryophyllene oxide. Essential oils of leaves and fruit showed excellent antibacterial properties with a MIC strength of 31.3 μg/mL against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25023 and Escherichia coli ATCC 35218. The highest antioxidant effect was also shown by inhibiting ABTS and DPPH radicals, with IC50 strength of essential oil obtained from the leaf being 15.60 and 19.42 μg/mL, respectively, while from the fruit were 10.44 and 11.93 μg/mL. These antibacterial and antioxidant properties indicate that essential oils have advantages in their use in the food and pharmaceutical industries

Implementing aquaculture technology and innovation platforms in Asia

    Get PDF
First paragraph: Aquaculture has emerged as one of the fastest growing agri-food systems, playing an increasingly important role in global nutrition security and contributing economic welfare to rural and coastal regions (Beveridge et al., 2013; Béné et al., 2016). At the same time the sector in globally important regions of the world like Southeast Asia remains vulnerable to a range of production risks, related to farming conditions, disease, processing and trade issues related to environmental and social sustainability (Little et al., 2016, 2018; Ahmed and Thompson, 2019; Bush et al., 2019). For the aquaculture sector to maintain its important role as a globally important sector, continual innovation of farming systems and sector level systems of response to key issues like disease are therefore required (Lebel et al., 2010; Asche and Smith, 2018; Joffre et al., 2018)

Robust estimation of bacterial cell count from optical density

    Get PDF
Optical density (OD) is widely used to estimate the density of cells in liquid culture, but cannot be compared between instruments without a standardized calibration protocol and is challenging to relate to actual cell count. We address this with an interlaboratory study comparing three simple, low-cost, and highly accessible OD calibration protocols across 244 laboratories, applied to eight strains of constitutive GFP-expressing E. coli. Based on our results, we recommend calibrating OD to estimated cell count using serial dilution of silica microspheres, which produces highly precise calibration (95.5% of residuals <1.2-fold), is easily assessed for quality control, also assesses instrument effective linear range, and can be combined with fluorescence calibration to obtain units of Molecules of Equivalent Fluorescein (MEFL) per cell, allowing direct comparison and data fusion with flow cytometry measurements: in our study, fluorescence per cell measurements showed only a 1.07-fold mean difference between plate reader and flow cytometry data
