    ANALYZING CORONAL MASS EJECTION OF JULY 10, 2005 AND ITS EFFECT ON THE EARTH’S MAGNETOSPHERE

    Abstract A large coronal mass ejection (CME) was occurred on July 10, 2005 08:54 UT at the South‐West solar limb. This was a partial type of CME as the ejected coronal plasma covered partially around the occulting disk of coronagraph. The Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph (LASCO) aboard Solar and Heliospheric Observatory (SOHO) data were used in detecting CME. The data taken by the Extreme‐ultraviolet Imaging Telescope (EIT) as well as Michelson Doppler Imager (MDI) that observes the active regions in white‐light wavelength and maps the magnetic field of the photosphere are used to identify the source region of CME. The projected speed of CME perpendicular the Sun‐Earth line is determined to estimate the arrival time at the Earth’s orbit. The speed and location of the source region of CME are used to study the effect of CME to the Earth’s magnetosphere (geo‐effectiveness). It is concluded that the CME’s effect to the Earth’s space environment was relatively small (Dst index greater than –100 nT) due to the source region was located close to the West solar limb.     Activities in Sunspot Group NOAA 9393

    Watukosek Aeronautics and Space Observing Site (WKSO, LAPAN), observed sunspot in daily basis since 1987 using a sketch method. Sunspot group NOAA 9393 (or WKSO 0123) have been observed in March to early of April 2001. The region showed a rapid development during its appearance on the solar disk. The magnetic field of this active region evolved from a simple to a complex configuration (sunspot group type F) within a short period (days). WKSO recognized the sunspot group remains as type F (very active) as long as 8 days. Based on GOES data the active region released as much as 56 flares of type C (small), M (moderate) and X (large) to amount of 28, 24 and 3, respectively, during its appearance from 24 March to 4 April 2001. It is found that prior to X-class flare, there was an increase of activity in C and M-class flare. A rapid emergence of the active region may cause instability in magnetic configuration, and therefore released the magnetic energy in the form of solar flares.     DESIGN AND DEVELOPMENT OF WAP SERVICE ON GEOMAGNETIC ACTIVITY

    Services based on wireless application protocol (WAP) have increased significantly during the last several years. This kind of service provides flexibility to users in browsing information via a mobile phone. LAPAN has magnetometers installed at several stations (Biak, Tanjungsari, Pontianak, Kototabang, Manado, Parepare and Kupang) that can be used to derive local geomagnetic activity index, namely k index. In order to encourage the use of the index by public, we have recently developed a service based on Short Message Service (SMS). We expand the system so that the users are able to browse or query k index of any station and date directly from a mobile phone. In developing the system, we have made use of a WAP browser to connect to Apache web server and have used PHP to generate WML scripts to provide the user a capability in querying k index to MySQL database via a mobile phone. In this paper, we report the development of WAP service on geomagnetic activity and provide some examples of the results in querying the index

    AUTOMATIC DECTECTION OF CORONAL MASS EJECTION FOR SPACE WEATHER

    Coronal mass ejection (CME) is an important event that influences significantly the condition in interplanetary space as well as the Earth’s magnetosphere. A traditional effort to detect CME event is by visual inspection of coronagraph images sequentially. In order to support space weather related services at LAPAN, computer software is developed to detect automatically the event based on running difference images of coronagraph data taken by LASCO (Large Angle and Spectrometric Coronagraph Experiment) instrument aboard SOHO (Solar and Heliospheric Observatory) spacecraft. The intensity profiles of selected area at several locations around the occulting disk are extracted from the running difference images. CME event will be identified when there is abruptly change in the intensity profile at particular position around the occulting disk. The time and location are recorded into a file for further verification. As an initial experiment, the procedures were applied to LASCO data taken in November 2003. This paper describes the methods, software development as well as the preliminary results of CME detection

    In History writing and teaching, objectivity can not always be realized considering the character of knowledge that created by man who always can not shy away from the “subjectivity” of a human being. Especially in the teaching of history in which every teaching must necessarily refer to the normative goals that have been set, either by the state, schools, or teachers themselves. This suggests that the normativity be the main reference in the teaching of history. Both the curriculum and the standards applied in each lesson course based on a value system that is believed by its formers respectively. The value system is what will form the miscellaneous curriculum or standards and distinguish between one to another. This study tried to view and evaluate whether the values of Islam as a religion has the largest adopted is represented well in teaching, especially in the teaching of history. Conclusions from this research that, viewed in general, the tradition of the teaching of history in Indonesia, especially in the teaching of general history, is not from Islamic traditions. Even if there are some content that do not conflict with the islamic values, its only a coincident. Especially when considering the tradition of historical writing in Indonesia intensively started from the colonial-orientalist tradition that put Islam and Muslims as their main enemy. In many cases, it is found effort to omit the role of Islam and muslim in Indonesian history, and also the historical facts about the role of Muslims that is still not seated proportionally

    Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah menghasilkan media pembelajaran Motion graphic yang layak dan efektif untuk meningkatkan hard skill siswa dalam melakukan setup mikrofon pada mata pelajaran Instalasi Mikrofon kelas XI TAV di SMKN 7 Surabaya. Model ADDIE; Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation, digunakan dalam penelitian ini. Data validitas media diperoleh dari validasi yang dilakukan oleh satu orang ahli materi, satu orang ahli desain instruksional, satu orang ahli media, dan enam orang siswa. Data keefektifan diperoleh dari pre-test dan post-test yang dilakukan kepada 33 siswa kelas XI TAV 1 SMK Negeri 7 Surabaya. Data dianalisis dengan menggunakan uji normalitas dan uji-t untuk data keefektifan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa validitas media yang dievaluasi oleh para ahli memperoleh nilai 90%, 94%, dan 95,5%. Penilaian oleh kelompok kecil siswa menghasilkan nilai rata-rata sebesar 90,6%. Oleh karena itu, media pembelajaran motion graphic dinilai sangat layak digunakan untuk pembelajaran. Hasil uji Gain Score menunjukkan adanya perbedaan dalam kategori sedang sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan media pembelajaran motion graphic, dengan nilai Gain Score sebesar 0,3 ≤ 0,504 ≥ 0,7 berdasarkan pre-test dan post-test. Dapat disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran motion graphic mikrofon pada mata pelajaran PISAV layak dan efektif digunakan dalam proses pembelajaran siswa kelas XI TAV di SMK Negeri 7 Surabaya

    Kritik Atas Pandangan Penulis Barat Tentang “Islam Liberal”: (Studi Atas Karya Leonard Binder dan Charles Kurzman)

    The term Liberal Islam has long been developing. However, in defining many crisscrossing. Therefore, it is important to explore this term from the origin term source, ie of Western writers. This article will describe the two main sources of  Liberal Islam  discourse is often a reference and is regarded as bearers of   Liberal Islam terms, those are“Islamic Liberalism: A Critique of Development Ideologies” by Leonard Binder and “ Liberal Islam: A Source Book” by Charles Kurzman et al. Searches through the two main sources above and compare it with some relevant sources can be concluded that the term Liberal Islam is meant by Binder are those which believed that no textual interpretation of the Qur'an, but the interpretation is based on the essence of the meanings, not what is written in the text. Search essential meaning, not textual that is considered to be able to adapt with the times. Meanwhile, according Kurzman Liberal Islam is that which has the first character, critical of Islam customs and Islamic traditions Revivalists which causes backwardness of Muslims. Second, the desire for progress by promoting the values of Islam which is in line with the values of Western liberalism such as democracy, economic progress, human rights, gender equality, and so on.Istilah Islam Liberal telah lama berkembang. Akan tetapi, dalam mendefinisikannya banyak yang simpang siur. Oleh sebab itu, penting untuk menggali istilah ini dari sumber istilah asalnya, yaitu dari para penulis Barat. Tulisan ini akan mendeskripsikan dua sumber utama wacana Islam Liberal yang sering menjadi rujukan dan dianggap sebagai pengusung istilah Islam Liberal, yaitu buku Leonard Binder, Islamic Liberalism: A Critique of Development Ideologies dan buku Liberal Islam: A Source Book karya Charles Kurzman dkk. Melalui penelusuran kedua sumber utama di atas dan membandingkannya dengan beberapa sumber yang relevan dapat disimpulkan bahwa istilah Islam Liberal yang dimaksud oleh Binder adalah mereka yang menganut paham penafsiran yang tidak tekstual terhadap Al-Qur’an, melainkan penafsiran yang didasarkan pada pencarian esensi makna ayat, bukan apa yang tersurat dalam teksnya. Pencarian makna esensial, bukan tekstual itulah yang dianggap dapat menyesuaikan diri dengan perkembangan zaman. Sementara menurut Kurzman Islam Liberal adalah yang memiliki karakter pertama, kritis terhadap tradisi Islam adat dan Islam Revivalis yang menyebabkan keterbelakangan umat Islam. Kedua, berkeinginan meraih kemajuan dengan mengedepankan nilai-nilai Islam yang sejalan dengan nilai-nilai liberalisme Barat seperti demokrasi, kemajuan ekonomi, hak-hak asasi manusia, kesetaraan gender, dan sebagainya

    Semenjak ada usaha untuk menuliskan sejarah Indonesia setelah Indonesia merdeka sebagai upaya untuk mendefinisikan bentuk “Indonesia” sebagai sebagai sebuah bangsa dan komunitas politik, dari kalangan aktivis dan pemimpin Islam banyak yang mengajukan keberatan. Pada umumnya mereka mengajukan keberatan bahwa Indonesia yang digambarkan terlalu bernuansa Hindu dan memberikan ruang yang sangat sempit bagi sejarah umat Islam. Di antara tokoh yang sangat vokal menyuarakan keberatan ini adalah Haji Abdul Malik Karim Amrullah (HAMKA) dan Ahmad Mansur Suryanegara (AMS). Tulisan ini bertujuan mengungkap bagaimana gagasan keduanya tentang Islamisasi penulisan sejarah Indonesia yang dirasakan keduanya kurang “Islam”. Berdasarkan survey terhadap karya-karya sejarah Indonesia yang ditulis oleh keduanya, maka dapat ditemukan bahwa baik HAMKA yang tidak secara khusus dilatih sebagai sejarawan dan AMS yang merupakan dosen sejarah di Universitas Padjadjaran sama-sama berusaha menawarkan peng-Islam-an penulisan sejarah Indonesia dengan memberikan ruang lebih luas untuk diangkatnya peran umat Islam dalam sejarah Indonesia semenjak kedatangan Islam yang diperkirakan HAMKA sudah ada sejak abad ke-7 M. Hanya saja, keduanya tidak ditemukan merumuskan metodologi yang ajeg dalam melakukannya. Kelihatannya AMS yang dididik dalam metodologi Barat dalam penulisan sejarah tidak terlampau mempermasalahkan perihal metodologi sejarah walaupun datang dari Barat.Kata Kunci: Islamisasi; Islamisasi Penulisan Sejarah; HAMKA; Ahmad Mansur Suryanegara; Peran Islam dalam Sejarah Indonesia

    The Educational Policy of Pakubuwono X in Surakarta in 1893-1939 was influenced by the social politic condition at that time. Such as the born of etic politic, the appearance of zending school, the development of Chinese and teacher ordonnance. The focus of this research is to know the policy of Pakubuwono X in the educational field in Surakarta in 1893-1939. It analyzes the influence of Pakubuwono X’s Policy toward the Islamic educational development in Surakarta dealing with Islamic Education today. The research method is descriptive, to describe the phenomenon, and to gain the point of view, to determine what part to analyze, and what kind of part to be revealed. The result of the research concludes that the policy of Pakubuwono X was classified into two factors. First, the policy deals with the Islamic education institution, and second, the policy which was not dealt with the establishment of educational institutions. The presence of Mambaul Ulum took a big effect on the development of Islamic education in Surakarta. It was seen by the appearance of Islamic scholars, religious teachers, religious officers, and the development of Islamic preaching. AbstrakKebijakan pendidikan Pakubuwana X di Surakarta tahun 1893-1939 sangat terkait dengan kondisi sosial politik saat itu, seperti lahirnya politik etis, munculnya sekolah zending (Kristen), pendirian sekolah Cina, dan lahirnya Ordonansi guru. Fokus penelitian berkisar untuk mengetahui kebijakan Pakubuwana X dalam bidang pendidikan di Surakarta tahun 1893 – 1939, menganalisis pengaruh kebijakan Pakubuwana X terhadap pengembangan pendidikan Islam di Surakarta serta relevansinya dengan pendidikan Islam hari ini. Metode penelitian sejarah dengan penggambaran mengenai suatu peristiwa dimana dan dari sudut mana kita memandangnya, dimensi mana yang diperhatikan, unsur-unsur mana yang diungkapkan. Hasil penelitian, secara garis besar kebijakan pendidikan Pakubuwana X dikelompokkan menjadi dua. Pertama: berkaitan dengan lembaga pendidikan Islam dan kedua: kebijakan yang tidak terkait langsung dengan pendirian lembaga pendidikan. Kehadiran Madrasah Mambaul Ulum berpengaruh besar terhadap perkembangan pendidikan Islam di Surakarta dengan munculnya para ulama, guru agama, pejabat keagamaan serta berkembangnya dakwah dan syiar Islam
