Sympatric Occurrence of 3 Arenaviruses, Tanzania
To determine the specificity of Morogoro virus for its reservoir host, we studied its host range and genetic diversity in Tanzania. We found that 2 rodent species other than Mastomys natalensis mice carry arenaviruses. Analysis of 340 nt of the viral RNA polymerase gene showed sympatric occurrence of 3 distinct arenaviruses
Pumping current of a Luttinger liquid with finite length
We study transport properties in a Tomonaga-Luttinger liquid in the presence
of two time-dependent point like weak impurities, taking into account
finite-length effects. By employing analytical methods and performing a
perturbation theory, we compute the backscattering pumping current (I_bs) in
different regimes which can be established in relation to the oscillatory
frequency of the impurities and to the frequency related to the length and the
renormalized velocity (by the electron-electron interactions) of the charge
density modes. We investigate the role played by the spatial position of the
impurity potentials. We also show how the previous infinite length results for
I_bs are modified by the finite size of the system.Comment: 9 pages, 7 figure
Measurement of the Charged Multiplicities in b, c and Light Quark Events from Z0 Decays
Average charged multiplicities have been measured separately in , and
light quark () events from decays measured in the SLD experiment.
Impact parameters of charged tracks were used to select enriched samples of
and light quark events, and reconstructed charmed mesons were used to select
quark events. We measured the charged multiplicities:

which we derived the differences between the total average charged
multiplicities of or quark events and light quark events: and . We compared
these measurements with those at lower center-of-mass energies and with
perturbative QCD predictions. These combined results are in agreement with the
QCD expectations and disfavor the hypothesis of flavor-independent

Measurement of the B0-anti-B0-Oscillation Frequency with Inclusive Dilepton Events
The - oscillation frequency has been measured with a sample of
23 million \B\bar B pairs collected with the BABAR detector at the PEP-II
asymmetric B Factory at SLAC. In this sample, we select events in which both B
mesons decay semileptonically and use the charge of the leptons to identify the
flavor of each B meson. A simultaneous fit to the decay time difference
distributions for opposite- and same-sign dilepton events gives ps.Comment: 7 pages, 1 figure, submitted to Physical Review Letter
Surface state atoms and their contribution to the surface tension of quantum liquids
We investigate the new type of excitations on the surface of liquid helium.
These excitations, called surfons, appear because helium atoms have discrete
energy level at the liquid surface, being attracted to the surface by the van
der Waals force and repulsed at a hard-core interatomic distance. The
concentration of the surfons increases with temperature. The surfons propagate
along the surface and form a two-dimensional gas. Basing on the simple model of
the surfon microscopic structure, we estimate the surfon activation energy and
effective mass for both helium isotopes. We also calculate the contribution of
the surfons to the temperature dependence of the surface tension. This
contribution explains the great and long-standing discrepancy between theory
and experiment on this temperature dependence in both helium isotopes. The
achieved agreement between our theory and experiment is extremely high. The
comparison with experiment allows to extract the surfon activation energy and
effective mass. The values of these surfon microscopic parameters are in a
reasonable agreement with the calculated from the proposed simple model of

Representational predicaments for employees: Their impact on perceptions of supervisors\u27 individualized consideration and on employee job satisfaction
A representational predicament for a subordinate vis-à-vis his or her immediate superior involves perceptual incongruence with the superior about the subordinate\u27s work or work context, with unfavourable implications for the employee. An instrument to measure the incidence of two types of representational predicament, being neglected and negative slanting, was developed and then validated through an initial survey of 327 employees. A subsequent substantive survey with a fresh sample of 330 employees largely supported a conceptual model linking being neglected and negative slanting to perceptions of low individualized consideration by superiors and to low overall job satisfaction. The respondents in both surveys were all Hong Kong Chinese. Two case examples drawn from qualitative interviews illustrate and support the conceptual model. Based on the research findings, we recommend some practical exercises to use in training interventions with leaders and subordinates. © 2013 Copyright Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
