On Four-Point Functions of Half-BPS Operators in General Dimensions
We study four-point correlation functions of half-BPS operators of arbitrary
weight for all dimensions d=3,4,5,6 where superconformal theories exist. Using
harmonic superspace techniques, we derive the superconformal Ward identities
for these correlators and present them in a universal form. We then solve these
identities, employing Jack polynomial expansions. We show that the general
solution is parameterized by a set of arbitrary two-variable functions, with
the exception of the case d=4, where in addition functions of a single variable
appear. We also discuss the operator product expansion using recent results on
conformal partial wave amplitudes in arbitrary dimension.Comment: The discussion of the case d=6 expanded; references added/correcte
What Brown saw and you can too
A discussion is given of Robert Brown's original observations of particles
ejected by pollen of the plant \textit{Clarkia pulchella} undergoing what is
now called Brownian motion. We consider the nature of those particles, and how
he misinterpreted the Airy disc of the smallest particles to be universal
organic building blocks. Relevant qualitative and quantitative investigations
with a modern microscope and with a "homemade" single lens microscope similar

Fermi surface and order parameter driven vortex lattice structure transitions in twin-free YBa2Cu3O7
We report on small-angle neutron scattering studies of the intrinsic vortex
lattice (VL) structure in detwinned YBa2Cu3O7 at 2 K, and in fields up to 10.8
T. Because of the suppressed pinning to twin-domain boundaries, a new distorted
hexagonal VL structure phase is stabilized at intermediate fields. It is
separated from a low-field hexagonal phase of different orientation and
distortion by a first-order transition at 2.0(2) T that is probably driven by
Fermi surface effects. We argue that another first-order transition at 6.7(2)
T, into a rhombic structure with a distortion of opposite sign, marks a
crossover from a regime where Fermi surface anisotropy is dominant, to one
where the VL structure and distortion is controlled by the order-parameter

Stress appraisal, coping, and work engagement among police recruits: an exploratory study.
This study investigated the influence of stress appraisal and coping on work engagement levels (Absorption, Vigour, and Dedication) of police recruits. Participants were 387 men, ages 20 to 33 yr. (M = 24.1, SD = 2.4), in their last month of academy training before becoming police officers. Partially in support of predictions, work engagement was associated with Stressor control perceived, but not Stress intensity experienced over a self-selected stressor. Although the three dimensions of work engagement were explained by Stressor control and coping, Absorption was the dimension better explained by these variables. Police recruits reporting higher Absorption, Vigour, and Dedication reported using more Active coping and less Behavioural disengagement. Results showed that stress appraisal and coping are important variables influencing work engagement among police recruits. Findings suggested that future applied interventions fostering work engagement among police recruits should reinforce perceptions of control over a stressor as well as Active coping strategies
Gauge-invariant correlation functions in light-cone superspace
We initiate a study of correlation functions of gauge-invariant operators in
N=4 super Yang-Mills theory using the light-cone superspace formalism. Our
primary aim is to develop efficient methods to compute perturbative corrections
to correlation functions. This analysis also allows us to examine potential
subtleties which may arise when calculating off-shell quantities in light-cone
gauge. We comment on the intriguing possibility that the manifest N=4
supersymmetry in this approach may allow for a compact description of entire
multiplets and their correlation functions.Comment: 35 pages, several figure
Evaluating the Potential of Using 5-Azacytidine as an Epimutagen
A number of early flowering lines were induced when 5-azacytidine was applied to germinating flax (Linum usitatissimum L.) seed. The genetics of these lines indicate that the induced changes are epigenetic and probably result from demethylation of the genomic DNA at loci that affect flowering age. Although the growth and development of three stable early flowering lines are altered and the percentage of filled seed was reduced in all three lines compared with controls, measures of seed productivity demonstrated that harvest index was unaffected in two of the lines. In the third, harvest index was lower than normal and both seed set per capsule and seed mass per 100 seed were reduced. Furthermore, six generations after induction this line began to display relatively high levels of polyembryony. The late appearance of this twinning and other aspects related to working with lines induced by 5-azacytidine and using 5-azacytidine as an epimutagen are discussed
Operator mixing in N=4 SYM: The Konishi anomaly revisited
In the context of the superconformal N=4 SYM theory the Konishi anomaly can
be viewed as the descendant of the Konishi multiplet in the 10 of
SU(4), carrying the anomalous dimension of the multiplet. Another descendant
with the same quantum numbers, but this time without anomalous
dimension, is obtained from the protected half-BPS operator (the
stress-tensor multiplet). Both and are renormalized mixtures
of the same two bare operators, one trilinear (coming from the superpotential),
the other bilinear (the so-called "quantum Konishi anomaly"). Only the operator
is allowed to appear in the right-hand side of the Konishi anomaly
equation, the protected one does not match the conformal properties of
the left-hand side. Thus, in a superconformal renormalization scheme the
separation into "classical" and "quantum" anomaly terms is not possible, and
the question whether the Konishi anomaly is one-loop exact is out of context.
The same treatment applies to the operators of the BMN family, for which no
analogy with the traditional axial anomaly exists. We illustrate our abstract
analysis of this mixing problem by an explicit calculation of the mixing matrix
at level g^4 ("two loops") in the supersymmetric dimensional reduction scheme.Comment: 28 pp LaTeX, 3 figure
Universal properties of superconformal OPEs for 1/2 BPS operators in
We give a general analysis of OPEs of 1/2 BPS superfield operators for the
superconformal algebras OSp(8/4,R), PSU(2,2), F and
OSp() which underlie maximal AdS supergravity in . \\
The corresponding three-point functions can be formally factorized in a way
similar to the decomposition of a generic superconformal UIR into a product of
supersingletons. This allows for a simple derivation of branching rules for
primary superfields. The operators of protected conformal dimension which may
appear in the OPE are classified and are shown to be either 1/2 or 1/4 BPS, or
semishort. As an application, we discuss the "non-renormalization" of extremal

Positive energy unitary irreducible representations of D=6 conformal supersymmetry
We give a constructive classification of the positive energy (lowest weight)
unitary irreducible representations of the D=6 superconformal algebras
osp(8*/2N). Our results confirm all but one of the conjectures of Minwalla (for
N=1,2) on this classification. Our main tool is the explicit construction of
the norms of the states that has to be checked for positivity. We give also the

Isotopic and magnetic provenance characterization of distal IRD in the Galicia Interior Basin (NW Iberia)
The sediments of the Galicia Interior Basin in NW Iberia Margin are of particular palaeoclimatic interest as they are located at the boundary where the climatic oscillations of the glacial interval were interrupted by extreme events such as Heinrich events. These events are well characterized in Northern North Atlantic areas, but little is known about their occurrence beyond the Ruddiman belt.
This study presents a combined environmagnetic and geochemical approach to the provenance and characterization of distal ice-rafted detritus (IRD) that occurred during the last glacial period in core CI12PC3 from the Galicia Interior Basin.
The last six Heinrich Layers were identified by their magneto-mineralogical and geochemical properties.
Their Sr and Nd isotopic signatures indicated that the Laurentide Ice Sheet was the major source for HL1, HL2, HL4 and HL5. However, the European ice sheets also influenced the initial development stages of HL1, HL2, HL4.
HL3, HL6 and partially HL1, HL2 and HL4 were influenced by more juvenile provinces, such as Iceland/Faroes sheets and/or by the Fram Strait/East Greenland nearby areas. Separate provenance analyses of the coarse and fine
fractions in the studied Heinrich Layers also indicated that IRDs and glacial flour sources might not always be the same. Our results shed unequivocal evidence that Canadian-sourced distal IRD are preceded by European-sourced IRD, at least from the H4. In our view, LIS and EIS instabilities registered in the Iberian Margin respond to the same climate forcing at different velocities
