    Eta-Helium Quasi-Bound States

The cross section and tensor analysing power t_20 of the d\vec{d}->eta 4He reaction have been measured at six c.m. momenta, 10 < p(eta) < 90 MeV/c. The threshold value of t_20 is consistent with 1/\sqrt{2}, which follows from parity conservation and Bose symmetry. The much slower momentum variation observed for the reaction amplitude, as compared to that for the analogous pd->eta 3He case, suggests strongly the existence of a quasi-bound state in the eta-4He system and optical model fits indicate that this probably also the case for eta-3He.Comment: LaTeX, uses elsart.sty, 10 pages, 3 Postscript figures, Submitted to Physics Letters

Didemnin B: Comparative study and conformational approach in solution

    Get PDF
A comparative study of isodideimnine-1 and didemnin B is presented using spcctroecopic methods, partial degradation and partial synthesis. This leads to the conclusion of the presence of a single depsipeptide, namely didemnin B, with (3S,4R,5S) isostatine instead of the previous statine residue. An attempt to determine the whole conformation in solution of didemnin B by using 2D-NMR is also described

Near-Threshold Production of omega Mesons in the pp -> pp omega Reaction

The total cross section for omega production in the pp -> pp omega reaction has been measured at five c.m. excess energies from 3.8 to 30 MeV. The energy dependence is easily understood in terms of a strong proton-proton final state interaction combined with a smearing over the width of the state. The ratio of near-threshold phi and omega production is consistent with the predictions of a one-pion-exchange model and the degree of violation of the OZI rule is similar to that found in the pi-p -> n omega/phi reactions.Comment: Report in LaTeX2e. 12 pages with 2 eps figure

    Projectile Δ\Delta and target-Roper excitation in the p (d, d')X reaction

In this paper we compare a model that contains the mechanisms of Δ\Delta excitation in the projectile and Roper excitation in the target with experimental data from two (d, d') experiments on a proton target. The agreement of the theory with the experiment is fair for the data taken at T_d = 2.3 GeV. The Δ\Delta excitation in the projectile is predicted close to the observed energy with the correct width. The theory, however, underpredicts by about 40% the cross sections measured at T_d = 1.6 GeV at angles where the cross section has fallen by about two orders of magnitude. The analysis done here allows to extract an approximate strength for the excitation of the Roper [N^*(1440)] excitation and a qualitative agreement with the theoretical predictions is also found.Comment: 8 ps figure

    Backward pion-nucleon scattering

    Get PDF
A global analysis of the world data on differential cross sections and polarization asymmetries of backward pion-nucleon scattering for invariant collision energies above 3 GeV is performed in a Regge model. Including the NαN_\alpha, NγN_\gamma, Δδ\Delta_\delta and Δβ\Delta_\beta trajectories, we reproduce both angular distributions and polarization data for small values of the Mandelstam variable uu, in contrast to previous analyses. The model amplitude is used to obtain evidence for baryon resonances with mass below 3 GeV. Our analysis suggests a G39G_{39} resonance with a mass of 2.83 GeV as member of the Δβ\Delta_{\beta} trajectory from the corresponding Chew-Frautschi plot.Comment: 12 pages, 16 figure

Measurement of the tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers of the deuteron inelastic scattering off berillium at 5.0 GeV/c and 178 mr

Tensor Ayy and vector Ay analyzing powers in the inelastic scattering of deuterons with the momentum of 5.0 GeV/c on beryllium at an angle of 178 mr in the vicinity of the excitation of baryonic resonances with masses up to 1.8 GeV/c^2 have been measured. The Ayy data are in a good agreement with the previous data obtained at 4.5 and 5.5 GeV/c. The results of the experiment are compared with the predictions of the plane wave impulse approximation and \omega-meson exchange models.Comment: 18 pages, 9 figure

    Measurement of p + d -> 3He + eta in S(11) Resonance

We have measured the reaction p + d -> 3He + eta at a proton beam energy of 980 MeV, which is 88.5 MeV above threshold using the new ``germanium wall'' detector system. A missing--mass resolution of the detector system of 2.6% was achieved. The angular distribution of the meson is forward peaked. We found a total cross section of (573 +- 83(stat.) +- 69(syst.))nb. The excitation function for the present reaction is described by a Breit Wigner form with parameters from photoproduction.Comment: 8 pages, 2 figures, corrected typos in heade

Production of eta and 3pi mesons in the pd->3HeX reaction at 1360 and 1450 MeV

    Get PDF
The cross sections of the pd -> 3He eta, pd -> 3He pi0 pi0 pi0 and pd -> 3He pi+ pi- pi0 reactions have been measured at beam kinetic energies T_p= 1360 MeV and T_p= 1450 MeV using the CELSIUS/WASA detector setup. At both energies, the differential cross section dsigma/dOmega of the eta meson in the pd -> 3He eta reaction shows a strong forward-backward asymmetry in the CMS. The ratio between the pd -> 3He pi+ pi- pi0 and the pd -> 3He pi0 pi0 pi0 cross sections has been analysed in terms of isospin amplitudes. The reconstructed invariant mass distributions of the pi-pi, 3He-pi and 3He-2pi systems provide hints on the role of nucleon resonances in the 3pi production process.Comment: Shorter version accepted to EPJA 10 pages 14 figure

Exclusive Measurements of pd3Heππpd\to ^3He \pi\pi : the ABCABC Effect Revisited

    Get PDF
Exclusive measurements of the reactions pdpd\to 3Heπ+π^3He \pi^+ \pi^- and pdpd\to 3Heπ0π0^3He \pi^0\pi^0 have been carried out at Tp=0.895T_p=0.895 GeV at the CELSIUS storage ring using the WASA detector. The π+π\pi^+\pi^- channel evidences a pronounced enhancement at low invariant ππ\pi\pi masses - as anticipated from previous inclusive measurements of the ABC effect. This enhancement is seen to be even much larger in the isoscalar π0π0\pi^0\pi^0 channel. The differential distributions prove this enhancement to be of scalar-isoscalar nature. ΔΔ\Delta\Delta calculations give a good description of the data, if a boundstate condition is imposed for the intermediate ΔΔ\Delta\Delta system.Comment: extended version, 8 pages, 7 figures, theoretical model calculations adde

Tara Pacific Expedition\u27s atmospheric measurements of marine aerosols across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans: Overview and preliminary results

    Get PDF
Marine aerosols play a significant role in the global radiative budget, in clouds\u27 processes, and in the chemistry of the marine atmosphere. There is a critical need to better understand their production mechanisms, composition, chemical properties, and the contribution of ocean-derived biogenic matter to their mass and number concentration. Here we present an overview of a new dataset of in situ measurements of marine aerosols conducted over the 2.5-yr Tara Pacific Expedition over 110, 000 km across the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Preliminary results are presented here to describe the new dataset that will be built using this novel set of measurements. It will characterize marine aerosols properties in detail and will open a new window to study the marine aerosol link to the water properties and environmental conditions
