The art trades: meanind and perspective

    Get PDF
Art trades represent a part of the world of art neither clearly defined nor greatly appreciated. During last years, specifically this piece of Culture has adopted a new perspective, becoming an interesting and productive field of investigation and acquiring great value among those skilled in the Cultural Heritage. Art trades are an important and outstanding cultural reference, not only because they contribute to local improvement, creating new jobs and aiding to the economic development of regions, but also because Art trades help maintaining territorial culture alive, due to their role as promoters of the “endogenous potential”. The term Art Trades covers all those quality artistic activities and productions which cannot be regarded neither as “Art” nor as “Crafts”. The disappearance of most masters and specialists in many of these trades entails that survival of a large part of our traditions is no longer guaranteed, as in the old days, by the simple transmission of knowledge carried out in workshops. Art Trades must therefore be aided by means of a program for stimulating new investments, incorporating innovative resources and providing better training resources for the creation of a new generation of craftsmen

    Dual-Band Tunable Recursive Active Filter

This letter presents a novel recursive active filter topology that provides dual-band performance, with independent tuning capability in both bands. The dual-band operation is achieved by using two independent feedback lines. Additionally, linear phase shifters based on left-handed cells are included in these two branches in order to tune the center frequency of both pass bands

Why do we preserve biodiversity? A brief sociological, psychological and moral review

    Get PDF
This paper briefly shows some fundamental concepts about the values that underlie decision making on biodiversity conservation, as well as the psychological bases of the deliberation in this context. First, it is described a classical sociological model that helps to predict the allocation of resources for conservation, based on social construction and the hidden "political" power of different species. Secondly, this model is linked to the taxonomy of underlying values (not necessarily excluding). Finally, the psychological basis of value deliberation is discussed based on the theory of the Two Systems of Kahneman, taking as an example the Haidt's theory of moral intuitions. Overall, it is expected that this paper will be a useful summary of the sociological, psychological and moral basis of the conservation policies

Rainwater Harvesting for Agricultural Irrigation: An Analysis of Global Research

    Get PDF
Within a context of scarce water resources for agriculture, rainwater harvesting constitutes a promising alternative that has been studied by different disciplines in recent years. This article analyses the dynamics of global research on rainwater harvesting for agricultural irrigation over the last two decades. To do this, qualitative systematic analysis and quantitative bibliometric analysis have been carried out. The results reveal that this line of research is becoming increasingly important within research on irrigation. Environmental sciences and agricultural and biological sciences are the most relevant subject areas. Agricultural Water Management, Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, and Irrigation and Drainage are the journals that have published the most articles on the subject. India, China, the United States (USA), South Africa, and the Netherlands are the countries that lead this line of research. Although significant progress has been made in this subject area, it is necessary to increase the number of studies on the capacity of rainwater harvesting systems to cover irrigation needs in different farming contexts, the factors that determine their adoption by farmers, the economic and financial feasibility of their implementation, and their contribution to mitigating global climate change

Evaluation of Enzyme Additives on the Nutritional Use of Feeds with a High Content of Plant Ingredients for Mugil cephalus

    Get PDF
The Mugilidae are a group of fish with a great interest for aquaculture due to their omnivorous profile, rapid growth, and resistance to environmental variations. The selection of feed ingredients for these species is currently focused on an extensive use of plant by-products, with this being limited by their content in anti-nutritive factors (mainly phytate and non-starch polysaccharides; NSPs). Nevertheless, specific enzymes can be used to counteract some of those negative effects. In the present study, the effect of pretreating two high-plant feeds with a mixture of enzymes (glucanases + phytase) on the digestive use of protein and phosphorus by juvenile mullets (Mugil cephalus) was assessed using both in vitro and in vivo assays. The enzymatic treatment significantly modified the potential bioavailability of some nutrients, such as a reduction of sugars, pentoses, and phytic phosphorus. Also, it increased the digestibility of protein in one of the feeds but reduced that of phosphorus in both of them. The potential usefulness of enzyme treatment and the information provided by the two types of assays are discusse

    Get PDF

Forest Ecosystem Services: An Analysis of Worldwide Research

    Get PDF
The relevance of forests to sustain human well-being and the serious threats they face have led to a notable increase of research works on forest ecosystem services during the last few years. This paper analyses the worldwide research dynamics on forest ecosystem services in the period from 1998 to 2017. A bibliometric analysis of 4284 articles was conducted. The results showed that the number of published research articles has especially increased during the last five years. In total, 68.63% of the articles were published in this period. This research line experiences a growing trend superior to the general publishing trend on forest research. In spite of this increase, its relative significance within the forest research is still limited. The most productive subject areas corresponded to Environmental Science, Agricultural and Biological Sciences and Social Sciences Economic topics are understudied. The scientific production is published in a wide range of journals. The three first publishing countries are United States, China and the United Kingdom. The most productive authors are attached to diverse research centres and their contributions are relatively recent. A high level of international cooperation has been observed between countries, institutions and authors. The findings of this study are useful for researchers since they give them an overview of the worldwide research trends on forest ecosystem services
