    Analysis of charged particle emission sources and coalescence in E/A = 61 MeV 36^{36}Ar + 27^{27}Al, 112^{112}Sn and 124^{124}Sn collisions

    Single-particle kinetic energy spectra and two-particle small angle correlations of protons (pp), deuterons (dd) and tritons (tt) have been measured simultaneously in 61A MeV 36^{36}Ar + 27^{27}Al, 112^{112}Sn and 124^{124}Sn collisions. Characteristics of the emission sources have been derived from a ``source identification plot'' (βsource\beta_{source}--ECME_{CM} plot), constructed from the single-particle invariant spectra, and compared to the complementary results from two-particle correlation functions. Furthermore, the source identification plot has been used to determine the conditions when the coalescence mechanism can be applied for composite particles. In our data, this is the case only for the Ar + Al reaction, where pp, dd and tt are found to originate from a common source of emission (from the overlap region between target and projectile). In this case, the coalescence model parameter, p~0\tilde{p}_0 -- the radius of the complex particle emission source in momentum space, has been analyzed.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Nuclear Physics

    Investigation of reactions using polarized and unpolarized deuteron beam at Nuclotron: current status and perspectives

    Deuteron induced reactions at intermediate energies are investigated at Internal Target Station (ITS) of Nuclotron. The dp elastic scattering data have been accumulated in the angular range (70◦ - 120◦) in c.m from 0.3 to 2.0 GeV of deuteron energy. Part of the obtained results of differential cross sections and analyzing powers of dp elastic scattering are compared with theoretical predictions based on relativistic multi-scattering mode

    Charmed particles production in pA-interactions at 70 GeV

    The results of the SERP-E-184 experiment at the U-70 accelerator (IHEP, Protvino) are presented. Interactions of the 70 GeV proton beam with carbon, silicon and lead targets were studied to detect decays of charmed D0D^0, Dˉ0\bar D^0, D+D^+, DD^- mesons and Λc+\Lambda_c^+ baryon near their production threshold. Measurements of lifetimes and masses have shown a good agreement with PDG data. The inclusive cross sections of charm production and their A-dependencies have been obtained. The yields of these particles are compared with the theoretical predictions and the data of other experiments. The measured cross section of the total open charm production σ(ccˉ)=7.1±2.3(stat)±1.4(syst)\sigma(c\bar c) = 7.1 \pm 2.3(stat) \pm 1.4(syst) μ\mub/nucleon at the collision c.m. energy s\surd s = 11.8 GeV is well above the QCD model predictions.     Pion emission in 2H, 12C, 27Al, gamma pi+ reactions at threshold

    The first data from MAX-lab in Lund, Sweden on pion production in photonuclear reactions at threshold energies, is presented. The decrease of the total yield of pi+ in gamma + 12C, 27Al reactions below 200 MeV as well as differential, dsigma/dOmega, cross sections follow essentially predictions from an intranuclear cascade model with an attractive potential for pion-nucleus interaction in its simplest form. Double differential, d2sigma/dOmegadT, cross sections at 176 MeV show, however, deviations from the model, which call for refinements of nuclear and Coulomb potentials and possibly also for coherent pion production mechanisms.Comment: 19 pages, 7 figure

    A measurement of the differential cross section for the two-body photodisintegration of 3He at theta_LAB = 90deg using tagged photons in the energy range 14 -- 31 MeV

    The two-body photodisintegration of 3He has been investigated using tagged photons with energies from 14 -- 31 MeV at MAX-lab in Lund, Sweden. The two-body breakup channel was unambiguously identified by the (nonsimultaneous) detection of both protons and deuterons. This approach was made feasible by the over-determined kinematic situation afforded by the tagged-photon technique. Proton- and deuteron-energy spectra were measured using four silicon surface-barrier detector telescopes located at a laboratory angle of 90deg with respect to the incident photon-beam direction. Average statistical and systematic uncertainties of 5.7% and 6.6% in the differential cross section were obtained for 11 photon-energy bins with an average width of 1.2 MeV. The results are compared to previous experimental data measured at comparable photon energies as well as to the results of two recent Faddeev calculations which employ realistic potential models and take into account three-nucleon forces and final-state interactions. Both the accuracy and precision of the present data are improved over the previous measurements. The data are in good agreement with most of the previous results, and favor the inclusion of three-nucleon forces in the calculations.Comment: 12 pages, 13 figures; further Referee comments addresse

    Correlation functions and emission time sequence of light charged particles from projectile-like fragment source in E/A = 44 and 77 MeV 40Ar + 27Al collisions

    Two-particle correlation functions, involving protons, deuterons, tritons, and alpha-particles, have been measured at very forward angles (0.7 deg < theta_lab < 7 deg), in order to study projectile-like fragment (PLF) emission in E/A = 44 and 77 MeV 40Ar + 27Al collisions. Peaks, originating from resonance decays, are larger at E/A = 44 than at 77 MeV. This reflects the larger relative importance of independently emitted light particles, as compared to two-particle decay from unstable fragments, at the higher beam energy. The time sequence of the light charged particles, emitted from the PLF, has been deduced from particle-velocity-gated correlation functions (discarding the contribution from resonance decays). Alpha-particles are found to have an average emission time shorter than protons but longer than tritons and deuterons.Comment: 18 pages, 5 figures, submitted to Nuclear Physics

    Beyond the neutron drip line: The unbound oxygen isotopes (25)O and (26)O

The unbound states are populated in an experiment performed at the R3B-LAND setup at GSI via proton-knockout reactions from 26F and 27F at relativistic energies around 442 and 414 MeV/nucleon, respectively. From the kinematically complete measurement of the decay into 24O plus one or two neutrons, the 25O ground-state energy and width are determined, and upper limits for the 26O ground-state energy and lifetime are extracted. In addition, the results provide indications for an excited state in 26O at around 4 MeV. The experimental findings are compared to theoretical shell-model calculations based on chiral two- and three-nucleon (3N) forces, including for the first time residual 3N forces, which are shown to be amplified as valence neutrons are added
