Per WHO 2016 and 2022 (5th ed.) myeloproliferative disease guidelines, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia (CML) is classified under two major groups according to the presence of bcr-abl translocation; these groups require different treatment approaches and show clinical presentation heterogeneity. Treatment agents such as tyrosine kinase inhibitors (Imatinib, Dasatinib, Nilotinib, Bosutinib, Ponatinib, Radotinib), Omacetaxine and Asciminib have been used in the treatment of Bcr abl positive CML according to the patient's clinic and mutation status. According to the IRIS study, a study evaluating CML patients treatment response to imatinib, the major molecular response was 33.3% at 3 months, the major molecular response was 48% at 6 months, and the major molecular response was 62.1% at 12 months; furthermore, the rate of achieving a complete molecular response at 12 months was 94.9% (4). In patients who was treated with imatinib as first line therapy, the rate of transformation to accelerated or blastic phase at 18 months was 0.9% in the MMR group and 9.9% in the non-MMR group. In "conventional" CML patients, high leukocyte counts may be accompanied by thrombocytosis; though presentation with only thrombocytosis without leukocytosis is hardly described so far. In this poster presentation, we introduced 7 cases who initially presented with isolated thrombocytosis and then diagnosed with Ph(+) CML. This study was conducted in three adult hematology centers from Antalya, Izmir and Istanbul. 400 patients followed in these centers were reviewed retrospectively; seven patients presented with isolated thrombocytosis were identified. Demographic characteristics, diagnostic findings, and risk scores of these patients were evaluated (Tablo 1). Eln 2013 response criteria were used for evaluation of response for 3rd, 6th, 12th. monthly responses (Figure 1). Here we present 7 CML patients without leukocytosis who were diagnosed with marked thrombocytosis. The patients had similar symptoms and physical examination with no obvious splenomegaly or thrombosis. All of the patients had minimal basophilia and normal peripheral smear findings. All patients responded well to imatinib therapy. During follow up patients who maintained their MMR achieve had a better clinical course and prognosis compared to other CML patients

Background: Cryptosporidium spp. is a zoonotic protozoan parasite that affects the gastrointestinal tract of humans and animals. The disease can cause acute and chronic diarrhoea and even death in both humans and animals. In this study, it was aimed to determine the prevalence and genotype distribution of Cryptosporidiosis in shelter dogs in Diyarbakır province located in the Southeastern Anatolia Region of Turkey. Materials, Methods & Results: The animal material of the study consisted of 100 dogs of different breeds and sexes. Faecal samples were collected from the rectum with disposable latex gloves and placed in individual sample containers. All of the samples were examined for Cryptosporidium spp. by Kinyoun Acid Fast and Nested PCR methods. In the Kinyoun Acid Fast staining method, firstly, smear preparations were prepared from fresh faecal samples, fixed in pure methanol for 1 min and allowed to dry. The slides were kept in Kinyoun Carbol-Fuxin for 5 min, dipped in 50% ethyl alcohol, shaken, washed in tap water, kept in 1% sulphuric acid for 2 min and washed in tap water. The slides were kept in methylene blue for 1 min, washed in tap water and allowed to dry. After drying, immersion oil was dripped and examined under a microscope at 100 magnification. DNA extraction was performed from all samples using GeneMATRIX Stool DNA Purification Kit according to the manufacturer's protocol. After Nested PCR analysis was performed. In the PCR step, primers 5'-TTCTAGAGCTAATACATGCG-3' and 5'- CCCATTTCCTTCCTTCGAAACAGGA-3' were used to amplify the 1325 bp gene region. In the nested PCR step, primers 5'- GGAAGGGTTGTATTTATTTATTAGATAAAG-3' and 5'-AAGGAGTAAGGAACAACCTCCA-3' were used to amplify the 826-864 bp gene region. As a result of both methods, a prevalence of 3% was determined. The infection rate was higher in males (3.57%) than females (2.27%) and in younger than 1 year (5.56%) than in older than 1 year (1.56%). The DNA sequences obtained from the sequence analysis of 3 positive PCR samples were analysed in BioEdit software. A phylogenetic tree was constructed with the data set created by using the 18s rRNA gene sequences obtained from the NCBI genbank database and the DNA sequences obtained as a result of the study, and it was shown which Cryptosporidium species the study samples were related to. Today, many Cryptosporidium species have been identified and most of these species have host adaptation. Although C. canis is the most common species in dogs, C. muris, C. meleagridis, and C. parvum have also been detected. Among these species, C. parvum is recognized as a zoonotic species infecting a wide range of mammals. In this study, DNA sequencing of nested PCR positive samples revealed that 3 samples were zoonotic C. parvum. Discussion: This suggests that dogs may be a reservoir for zoonotic transmission of Cryptosporidium. Consequently, it is recommended that people should be informed about the potential for transmission of this protozoan to humans and animals and that control programmes should be implemented, including the prevention of free entry of stray dogs into public places and homes.
Abstract

Introduction

Malignant melanoma is reported to metastasize to all organs of the human body. Although it is common for it to metastasize to the gastrointestinal tract, a melanoma located primarily in the gastric mucosa is an uncommon tumor. Gastrointestinal metastases are rarely diagnosed before death with radiological and endoscopic techniques.

Case presentation

In this case report the clinical course and treatment of a woman with melanoma of the stomach, without any other detectable primary lesion, is presented and discussed. A 55-year-old Turkish woman presented to our clinic with complaints of muscle pain and bone pain in the left side of her chest. During an upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy, dark cherry-colored, light elevated, round-shaped lesions were taken from her gastric fundus and from the first part of her duodenum. Biopsies from these samples were determined to be malignant melanoma by the pathologist.

Conclusion

Metastatic malignant melanoma cases should be examined through endoscopy for gastrointestinal metastases.</p

PROPERTIES OF PARALLEL STRAND LUMBER FROM TWO HYBRID POPLAR CLONES USING MELAMINE UREA FORMALDEHYDE ADHESIVE

    No full text
Experimental parallel strand lumbers (PSLs) were manufactured from fast growing rotary peeled I-214 (Populus x euramericana) and I-77/51 (Populus deltoides) hybrid poplar clones veneer strands with melamine urea formaldehyde (MUF) adhesive. The results showed that hybrid poplar clones can be used in PSLs manufacturing. Physical and mechanical properties of PSLs were affected by clone types. The I-77/51 clone had better properties and was found to be more suitable for PSLs manufacturing compared to the I-214 clone. PSLs properties were higher than those of solid woods (SWs) and laminated veneer lumbers (LVLs) of the same poplar clones. This increase may be due to materials, densification as a result of high pressure use, and the manufacturing techniques. The degree of contribution of SWs properties to the PSLs properties was lower than that of LVLs. This indicated that factors other than SWs properties played more important roles in the strength increase of PSLs
