A comparative analysis of the concept of money: Marx, Keynes, Simmel

Abstract

Bu çalışmada Marx, Keynes ve Simmel'ın teorik katkıları çerçevesinde paraya ilişkin kavramsal bir analiz geliştirilmiştir. Paraya ilişkin kavramsal analizin temel çıkış noktalarından birini, para nedir? şeklindeki kavramsal soru oluşturmaktadır. Bu soru bu Tez'de nesnel bir varlık olarak para ile bir toplumsal ilişki olarak para arasındaki kategorik ayrım temelinde tartışılmıştır. Böylelikle para verili bir nesne olarak alınmak ya da görünüşteki işlevselliği içinde değerlendirilmek yerine, parayı ortaya çıkaran toplumsal ilişkiler analiz edilmiş, para kavramsal bir olgu olarak tanımlanmıştır. Ele alınan yazarların, özelde parayı ve genel olarak iktisadı nasıl kavramsallaştırdıkları tartışması, bu çalışmanın özünü oluşturmaktadır. Bu analiz kavramsal ve yöntemsel bir içerikte yürütülmüş olup, bir yandan yazarlar karşılaştırmalı olarak ele alınırken, diğer yandan da özgün bir yaklaşım geliştirilmeye çalışılmıştır.In this study a conceptual analysis of money has been developed with respect to the theoretical contributions made by Marx, Keynes and Simmel. The fundamental question what is money? is one of the basic starting points of a conceptual analysis of money. In this Thesis this question has been discussed on the basis of the categorical distinction between money as an objective being and money as a social relation. In this discussion money, therefore, is defined as a conceptual being and viewed within the social relations in which it has developed, instead of being taken as a given object or seen in its functionality in which it appears The way in which each theorist has conceptualised economics in general and money in particular constitutes the essence of this study. As the way of analysis adopted in this study is both a conceptual and a methodological one, an original aprroach to the concept of money is aimed to be developed while the theorists are analysed in a comparative manner
