The objectives of this study focus on knowing, in the first place, knowing what the levels of cognitive anxiety, self-confidence and somatic anxiety are among boys and girls before starting the competition. And, secondly, analyze the impact that the result of the match (victory-defeat) has on the aforementioned dimensions in both men and women. 95 soccer players participated in the research (26 women and 69 men) belonging to the cadet, youth and senior categories of different soccer clubs that compete in league championships in the city of Vitoria Gasteiz. Participants completed the Competitive Anxiety Inventory in Sports (CSAI-2). (18), consisting of 27 items, adapted and validated into Spanish by (5) and subsequently revised and used by other researchers (3). The results reflect a greater self-confidence on the part of men in the moment prior to competing compared to women, who show high levels of somatic anxiety. The correct reading of the anxiety states of athletes can help trainers and physical trainers to modulate the tone and content of motivational talks and technical-tactical instructions so that there is greater use by the athlete of the information that the technicians transfer them.

This study aims at assessing the validity and reliability of the Spanish version of the Lysholm score, a widely used instrument for assessing knee function and activity level after ligament injuries. Ninety-five participants (67.4% male, 22±5 years) completed the questionnaire twice within 7 days and a subsample of 42 participants completed a test-retest reliability. Reliability, validity and feasibility psychometric properties were studied. The validity of the questionnaire was analysed using ceiling and floor effects. Factor structure and construct validity were analysed with the SF-36, the Hip and Knee Questionnaire (HKQ) and one leg jump test (OLJT). Criterion validity with the SF-36 Physical State was moderate (r = 0.50 and p<0.01), poor and inverse relationship (r = -0.31, p<0.01) with HKQ and positive moderate (r = 0.59, p<0.01) with OLJT. Measurement error from MDC90 was 3.9%. Exploratory factor analysis demonstrated a one-factor solution explaining 51.5% of total variance. The x2 test for the one-factor model was significant (x2 = 29.58, df = 20, p < 0.08). Test-retest reliability level was high (ICC2.1 = 0.92, p<0.01) and also the internal consistency (α = 0.77). The Spanish Lysholm score demonstrated that it is a reliable and valid instrument that can be used to assess knee function after ligament injuries. This study takes place thanks to the additional funding from the University of Granada, Plan Propio de Investigación 2016, Excellence actions: Units of Excellence; Unit of Excellence on Exercise and Health (UCEES)

The purpose of this study was to design, for the first time, a co-loaded liposomal formulation (CLL) for treatment of glaucoma including timolol maleate (TM) in the lipid bilayer and acetazolamide (Acz)-(2-hydroxy)propyl β-cyclodextrin (HPβCD) complexes (AczHP) solubilized in the aqueous core of liposomes. Formulations with TM (TM-L) and AczHP (AczHP-L), separately, were also prepared and characterized. A preliminary study comprising the Acz/HPβCD complexes and their interaction with cholesterol (a component of the lipid bilayer) was realized. Then, a screening study on formulation factors affecting the quality of the product was carried out following the design of the experiment methodology. In addition, in vitro release and permeation studies and in vivo lowering intraocular pressure (IOP) studies were performed. The results of the inclusion com-plexation behavior, characterization, and binding ability of Acz with HPβCD showed that HPβCD could enhance the water solubility of Acz despite the weak binding ability of the complex. Ch disturbed the stability and solubility parameters of Acz due to the fact of its competence by CD; thus, Chems (steroid derivative) was selected for further liposome formulation studies. The optimization of the lipid bilayer composition (DDAB, 0.0173 mmol and no double loading) and the extrusion as methods to reduce vesicle size were crucial for improving the physico-chemical properties and encapsulation efficiency of both drugs. In vitro release and permeation studies demonstrated that the CLL formulation showed improvement in in vitro drug release and permeation compared to the liposomal formulations with a single drug (TM-L and AczHP-L) and the standard solutions (TM-S and AczHP-S). CLL showed high efficacy in reducing and prolonging IOP, suggesting that the synergistic effect of TM and Acz on aqueous humor retention and the presence of this cyclodextrin and liposomes as permeation enhancers are responsible for the success of this strategy of co-loading for glaucoma therapy.

Background and Aims: Seasonal flooding in tropical forests may function as an environmental filter that affects the survival, establishment and growth of tree seedlings, with consequences for the assembly of communities. Seasonal flood and drought conditions were simulated with the objective to evaluate their effect on the survival, growth (stem length and number of leaves), as well as biomass accumulation in Brosimum alicastrum and Psidium sartorianum seedlings from the tropical forest of Campeche, Mexico. Methods: A nursery experiment was established with a completely random design with three treatments (flooding, regular irrigation and drought). For each treatment 45 seedlings were used for each species. The survival, height and number of leaves of the seedlings were measured at the beginning of the experiment and at 30 days intervals until the experiment ended at 120 days. The seedlings were then harvested and the length of the roots and the biomass accumulation were measured. Key results: The flood decreased the survival of B. alicastrum and did not change the survival of P. sartorianum. Likewise, it limited the length of the stem, the number of leaves and the biomass accumulated in both species, except for the biomass in roots of P. sartorianum. The survival of the seedlings exposed to drought and regular irrigation were not altered and showed increases in growth and accumulated biomass. Conclusions: The responses of the species contributed to understand the role of the environmental filter in the establishment of arboreal species seedlings in the lowlands of Calakmul, Campeche. Seasonal flooding in the lowlands acts as an environmental filter because it eliminates B. alicastrum seedlings, while it predominates in areas with well-drained soils, such as the hills adjacent to the low floodplains. Psidium sartorianum was well adapted to the conditions of drought and flood, as observed in its natural habitat

Potent virucidal activity in vitro of photodynamic therapy with Hpericum extract as photosensitizer and white light against human coronavirus HCoV-229E

The emergent human coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 and its high infectivity rate has highlighted the strong need for new virucidal treatments. In this sense, the use of photodynamic therapy (PDT) with white light, to take advantage of the sunlight, is a potent strategy for decreasing the virulence and pathogenicity of the virus. Here, we report the virucidal effect of PDT based on Hypericum extract (HE) in combination with white light, which exhibits an inhibitory activity of the human coronavirus HCoV-229E on hepatocarcinoma Huh-7 cells. Moreover, despite continuous exposure to white light, HE has long durability, being able to maintain the prevention of viral infection. Given its potent in vitro virucidal capacity, we propose HE in combination with white light as a promising candidate to fight against SARS-CoV-2 as a virucidal compoundThis research was funded by Fundación Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, grant number PI21/00315 and by Instituto de Salud Carlos III, grant number PI21/00953. Abstract: This review aims to evaluate the effectiveness of virtual reality-based interventions (VRbased interventions) on cognitive deficits in children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD). A systematic review and meta-analysis were performed according to the PRISMA statement and the Cochrane Handbook guidelines for conducting meta-analyses. The Grading of Recommendations, Assessment, Development and Evaluation (GRADE) was used to assess the quality of the evidence. Clinical trials published up to 29 October 2020, were included. The meta-analysis included four studies, with a population of 125 participants with ADHD. The magnitude of the effect was large for omissions (SMD = −1.38; p = 0.009), correct hits (SMD = −1.50; p = 0.004), and perceptual sensitivity (SMD = −1.07; p = 0.01); and moderate for commissions (SMD = −0.62; p = 0.002) and reaction time (SMD = −0.67; p = 0.03). The use of VR-based interventions for cognitive rehabilitation in children with ADHD is limited. The results showed that VR-based interventions are more effective in improving sustained attention. Improvements were observed in attentional vigilance measures, increasing the number of correct responses and decreasing the number of errors of omission. No improvements were observed in impulsivity responses
