    The Importance of Sleep

    Get PDF
Many people nowadays struggle with sleep. Research has shown that 22% of people struggle with sleepand out of those, 66% have a sleep disorder. This shows how complicated the sleep process is for the vast majority of people. My research was organized in many stages, first I wrote down what I already knew about sleep (which was nothing compared to the amount of things I found after my research). Secondly, I started looking at a lot of research projects led by the best scientists and organizations about sleep. I found that sleep is divided into many sections and what happens in each one of those, the important role that HRV and the Circadian rhythm play in the sleep process, irregular sleep leads to poor performance and that the key of good sleep is consistency. With all this information I could see why many people including me struggle so much with sleep. After doing the research I put into practice all the things I learned from doing this research and my life has changed for the better. This impacted my life in a very positive way

So far, the author of this paper has been able to find fifteen translations of different compositions by Coleridge. The basic aim of this article is to make them known and to analyze their characteristics mainly as regards their orientation towards adequacy or acceptability. On the other hand, in the first part of this work, Coleridge's canon as it has been made up throughout these translations will be presente

Estudio comparativo de la recepción británica y española de Felicia Hemans en el siglo XIX

[Abstract] The popularity enjoyed by Felicia Hemans (1783–1835) in nineteenth-century Britain was determined by the progressive feminization of her literary work and a critical discourse marked by gender bias which together constructed an image of the author as a model of womanhood. While the reception of her male peers within the Spanish literary system has been widely discussed, Hemans’s has been totally neglected. Those of us who work on British Romantic literature in the Spanish Academia are more than grateful when a colleague’s work on the subject comes to light. This is the case with Agustin Coletes Blanco’s translation of Byron’s correspondence, minor poems and varia, written during hispeculiar Grand Tour through Portugal, Spain, Malta, Albania, Greece, Turkey and the Troad between June 1809 and July 1811. It is certainly a ‘Mediterranean’ version of the conventional Grand Tour

Motivic Pattern Classification of Music Audio Signals Combining Residual and LSTM Networks

    Get PDF
Motivic pattern classification from music audio recordings is a challenging task. More so in the case of a cappella flamenco cantes, characterized by complex melodic variations, pitch instability, timbre changes, extreme vibrato oscillations, microtonal ornamentations, and noisy conditions of the recordings. Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) have proven to be very effective algorithms in image classification. Recent work in large-scale audio classification has shown that CNN architectures, originally developed for image problems, can be applied successfully to audio event recognition and classification with little or no modifications to the networks. In this paper, CNN architectures are tested in a more nuanced problem: flamenco cantes intra-style classification using small motivic patterns. A new architecture is proposed that uses the advantages of residual CNN as feature extractors, and a bidirectional LSTM layer to exploit the sequential nature of musical audio data. We present a full end-to-end pipeline for audio music classification that includes a sequential pattern mining technique and a contour simplification method to extract relevant motifs from audio recordings. Mel-spectrograms of the extracted motifs are then used as the input for the different architectures tested. We investigate the usefulness of motivic patterns for the automatic classification of music recordings and the effect of the length of the audio and corpus size on the overall classification accuracy. Results show a relative accuracy improvement of up to 20.4% when CNN architectures are trained using acoustic representations from motivic patterns

Spontaneous Heterotopic Pregnancy in Natural Conception: A Case Report

Abstract Category: Practice Innovation / Evidence-Based Practice Purpose: Heterotopic pregnancy (HP) is the concurrent development of an intrauterine pregnancy and an ectopic pregnancy. It is associated with significant risk of maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality, it can even increase the maternal mortality risk up to 90 times greater than that of a normal intrauterine pregnancy when the ectopic is implanted in the abdomen. The incidence of HP is not uncommon and it ranges from 1 in 30,000 pregnancies in natural conception cycles and can go up to 1 in 3900 pregnancies because of invent of assisted reproduction techniques (ART). Current case is relatively rare case of heterotopic pregnancy in a patient with natural conception, who also reported a strong family history of multiple gestation pregnancies. Patient was born as a product of twin pregnancy as well. Findings: 28 year old Hispanic White nonsmoker female with PMH of liposuction of abdomen and tonsillectomy, presented to emergency room (ER) with complaint of sever abdominal pain, dyspnea associated with chest pressure, and pelvic pain. At presentation, patient stated that she is 7 weeks pregnant. Family history later explored was significant for multiple gestation in her grandmother, mother, and her sister. Quantitative hCG was 111,360.0 MIU/ML. TV US showed heterotopic pregnancy. Since this was a desired pregnancy, patient opted to preserve intrauterine pregnancy (IUP) despite risks and to proceed with removal of ruptured ectopic. Laparoscopy with right partial salpingectomy, lysis of adhesions and evacuation of hemoperitomeum was performed successfully. Uterus was not explored in order to keep IUP alive. Patient was discharged home in a stable condition on post op day 1 in stable condition. Patient had to visit ER again in next couple of days with complaint of vaginal bleeding. Stat TV US confirmed abortion with no intrauterine cardiac activity. Dilatation and Curettage was performed. Discussion: HP poses unique therapeutic challenges, as its clinical presentation can easily be confused with other normal and abnormal pregnancy manifestations. Management include least invasive therapy to remove tubal pregnancy and preserve the IUP as systemic medical therapy such as methotrexate is contraindicated in the presence of a viable intrauterine gestation. Although the incidence of HP has increased tremendously over the last decade because of assisted reproduction techniques (ART), yet the other possible causes of heterotopic pregnancy should not be ignored in clinical practice. According to U.S. statistics, about two-thirds of the increase in the twin birth rate in the last three decades is likely associated with assisted reproductive technology (ART) and non-ART infertility treatments and rest of one third could be related to other factors including family history of multiple gestation in father and mother side, use of hormones, diet, and race. Implications for Practice: Current study signifies the importance of collecting family history of multiple gestations in child bearing age women and counseling them accordingly regarding the potential benefits and risks of multiple gestations. Women with multiple gestations are at increased risk of complications and adverse pregnancy outcomes. This can have a significant psychosocial and economic impact on women and the families requiring emotional and psychological support. The role of a family physician can be crucial in alleviating such emotional burden and improving the quality of life in these women and families
