The taxonomic identification of mantis shrimp Lysiosquilla maculata was performed through DNA barcoding analysis of specimens collected from the Kasimedu fishing port, Chennai coast, Tamil Nadu, India. The mitochondrial cytochrome oxidase subunit I (mtCOI) gene with a region of 650 bp was sequenced for phylogenetic analysis. In the present record, mitochondrial gene sequences were used to identify the mantis shrimp. This is the first confirmed DNA barcoding record from Indian waters, whose mtCOI sequence was deposited in GenBank. The Neighbor-joining method was used for phylogenetic analysis. The calculated pairwise genetic distance with five closely related species ranged from 0.01 to 0.094%. The morphological and molecular analysis confirm that the specimens collected correspond to L. maculata.La identificación taxonómica del camarón mantis Lysiosquilla maculata se realizó mediante análisis de códigos de barras de ADN de especímenes recolectados en el puerto pesquero de Kasimedu, costa de Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. Understanding Evolution of Resistant Strains in Recent Decades and Approach Towards Antibiotic Therapy

    Get PDF
Developing resistance to antibiotics is a natural process, and a rising threat to human society. These emergent strains have worsened the burden on existing regimen of antibiotic therapy. Resistance, classified under multidrug resistance (MDR), extensively drug-resistance (XDR) and pandrug-resistance (PDR), is widely seen in hospital setup. Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant S. aureus (VRSA), Escherichia coli and Klebsiella (Resistant to thirdgeneration cephalosporins), carbapenem-resistant Enterobacteriaceae (CRE) are currently spread infectious agents which call for careful and proper antibiotic management. Antibiotic control programs, better hygiene, antibiogram-based empirical therapy with improved antimicrobial activity are needed to limit bacterial resistance

THE POTENTIAL OF REMDESIVIR AGAINST SARS COV 2: A REVIEW

    Get PDF
Covid 19, the pandemic originated in the Chinese city of Wuhan, had the entire world conquered. The structure and transmission of the causative organism, Coronavirus is well studied. Remdesivir, the product of Gilead pharmaceuticals, was effective against many viral infections, including Ebola and SARS. It comes under the category of nucleoside prodrug and has given promising results in the early trials against SARS COV 19. In depth, research is taking place at a rapid pace, so that Remdesivir will be available to the therapeutic community as an effective remedy for the pandemic caused by SARS COV2. If this meets success, the darkest era in the modern history of mankind may become a memory in the near future

COPD is a major and increasing health problem which is predicted to become the third commonest cause of death and fifth commonest cause of disability in the world by the year 2020. Despite its enormous global importance, there has been relatively little research into COPD and it is the most under-funded disease in relation to the global burden of diseases. This study was carried out to see the ECG and Echocardiographic signs in COPD. It was conducted in 50 cases of COPD diagnosed clinically and confirmed by Spirometry. It is an observational study and the relevant information was obtained in a predesigned proforma using interview technique. All the necessary investigations was done and ECG was done in all cases. 2 D and Doppler Echocardiography was done in cases showing ECG evidence of right ventricular hypertrophy (RVH). The results were carefully documented. ECG evidence of RVH was found in 28 cases, out of which 21 cases was confirmed using echocardiography. Thus, raised pulmonary artery pressure was found in 75 % of cases showing ECG evidence of Right Ventricular Hypertrophy

Littoral lichens as a novel source of potentially bioactive Actinobacteria

International audienceCultivable Actinobacteria are the largest source of microbially derived bioactive molecules. The high demand for novel antibiotics highlights the need for exploring novel sources of these bacteria. Microbial symbioses with sessile macro-organisms, known to contain bioactive compounds likely of bacterial origin, represent an interesting and underexplored source of Actinobacteria. We studied the diversity and potential for bioactive-metabolite production of Actinobacteria associated with two marine lichens (Lichina confinis and L. pygmaea; from intertidal and subtidal zones) and one littoral lichen (Roccella fuciformis; from supratidal zone) from the Brittany coast (France), as well as the terrestrial lichen Collema auriforme (from a riparian zone, Austria). A total of 247 bacterial strains were isolated using two selective media. Isolates were identified and clustered into 101 OTUs (98% identity) including 51 actinobacterial OTUs. The actinobacterial families observed were: Brevibacteriaceae, Cellulomonadaceae, Gordoniaceae, Micrococcaceae, Mycobacteriaceae, Nocardioidaceae, Promicromonosporaceae, Pseudonocardiaceae, Sanguibacteraceae and Streptomycetaceae. Interestingly, the diversity was most influenced by the selective media rather than lichen species or the level of lichen thallus association. The potential for bioactive-metabolite biosynthesis of the isolates was confirmed by screening genes coding for polyketide synthases types I and II. These results show that littoral lichens are a source of diverse potentially bioactive Actinobacteria

The present study was based on sighting of whale shark, Rhincodon typus Smith, 1828 on 13th and 14th October 2016 incidentally in oceanic waters of Bay of Bengal at a depth of 3340 and 3270 m. These two sightings were thus confirmed by photographs. Whale sharks were reported in the coastal and near shore regions of India by many of the researchers and this is the first observation of R. typus in oceanic waters of east coast of India

MISFIRE DETECTION IN A MULTI-CYLINDER DIESEL ENGINE: A MACHINE LEARNING APPROACH

    Get PDF
Misfire is another type of abnormal combustion. When engine misfires, cylinder (or cylinders) is not producing its normal amount of power. Engine misfire also has negative effects on engine exhaust emissions such as HC, CO, and NOx. Engine misfire should be detected and eliminated. Normal combustion and misfire in the cylinder (if any) generates vibrations in the engine block. The vibration characters due to misfire are unique for a particular cylinder. This can be diagnosed by processing the vibration signals acquired from the engine cylinder block using a piezoelectric accelerometer. The obtained signals were decoded using statistical parameters, like, Kurtosis, standard deviation, mean, median, etc. Misfire identification algorithms such as AdaBoost, LogitBoost, MultiClass Classifier, and J48 were used as tools for feature selection and classification. The signals were trained and tested by the selected classifiers. The classification accuracy of selected classifiers were compared and presented in this paper. MultiClass Classifier was found to be performing better with selected statistical features compared to other classifiers

    Get PDF
The high penetration of renewable sources owing to less environmental pollution creates challenges for the grid operators. Virtual Power Plant is a novel concept that will integrate the small distributed energy resources and will act as a single conventional power plant in the electricity market. As a core energy management system in VPP, the energy should be dispatched optimally for achieving the maximum profit. Therefore, smart energy management is developed in this article of VPP with PLC and IoT in a unified market environment that integrates the DA and RT market. The cost characteristics for the interruptible load, battery storage system are modelled individually. The proposed scheme can efficiently handle the energy demand for the VPP domain. Four different scenarios are considered with different loading conditions for validation of the concept of smart energy management. The profitability for each scenario is shown with the experimental results
