An Economic Model-Based Predictive Control to Manage the Users' Thermal Comfort in a Building

    Get PDF
The goal of maintaining users' thermal comfort conditions in indoor environments may require complex regulation procedures and a proper energy management. This problem is being widely analyzed, since it has a direct effect on users' productivity. This paper presents an economic model-based predictive control (MPC) whose main strength is the use of the day-ahead price (DAP) in order to predict the energy consumption associated with the heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC). In this way, the control system is able to maintain a high thermal comfort level by optimizing the use of the HVAC system and to reduce, at the same time, the energy consumption associated with it, as much as possible. Later, the performance of the proposed control system is tested through simulations with a non-linear model of a bioclimatic building room. Several simulation scenarios are considered as a test-bed. From the obtained results, it is possible to conclude that the control system has a good behavior in several situations, i.e., it can reach the users' thermal comfort for the analyzed situations, whereas the HVAC use is adjusted through the DAP; therefore, the energy savings associated with the HVAC is increased.Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation [DPI2014-56364-C2-1-R]; EU-ERDF funds; Competitiveness and ERDF funds; Fundacion Iberdrola Espana; Portuguese Foundation for Science & Technology, through IDMEC, under LAETA [ID/EMS/50022/2013

Narrativa y corporalidad.

In an interview with H. Spectrum-Based Fault Localization in Model Transformations

    Get PDF
Model transformations play a cornerstone role in Model-Driven Engineering (MDE), as they provide the essential mechanisms for manipulating and transforming models. The correctness of software built using MDE techniques greatly relies on the correctness of model transformations. However, it is challenging and error prone to debug them, and the situation gets more critical as the size and complexity of model transformations grow, where manual debugging is no longer possible. Spectrum-Based Fault Localization (SBFL) uses the results of test cases and their corresponding code coverage information to estimate the likelihood of each program component (e.g., statements) of being faulty. In this article we present an approach to apply SBFL for locating the faulty rules in model transformations. We evaluate the feasibility and accuracy of the approach by comparing the effectiveness of 18 different stateof- the-art SBFL techniques at locating faults in model transformations. Evaluation results revealed that the best techniques, namely Kulcynski2, Mountford, Ochiai, and Zoltar, lead the debugger to inspect a maximum of three rules to locate the bug in around 74% of the cases. Furthermore, we compare our approach with a static approach for fault localization in model transformations, observing a clear superiority of the proposed SBFL-based method.

    Get PDF
The concept of time has been studied by Heidegger and Zambrano in two very different ways. If the german philosopher thought that it was related to the question of being (main problem of his whole investigation), Zambrano said that it was linked to the experience of dreaming. The purpose of this study is to analyze the coincidences and divergences between these two approaches and their theorical consequences, focusing on some major works (Sein und Zeit, El sueño creador and Los sueños y el tiempo), but taking also as a reference other writings of these authors

The aim of this article is to explore the relationship betwen poetry, philosophy and the concept of “the impossible”. In orden to do that, I intend to revise not only certains Zambrano’s texts, but also some moments of Georges Bataille’s Works, in which those authors studied, in two very different ways, the mentioned category.

    Get PDF
In the work of María Zambrano painting is more closely linked to the feeling of stillness, so that the exile would be exorcized. However, the deployment of this idea leads to a contradiction that this author does not cease to recognize. The intention of this article is to show how the theory of Gilles Deleuze on painting and his speech concerning the nomad can be used to dissolve this contradiction

In this paper I describe my research in relation to the optimization of talent in organizations. The thesis was entitled "Optimization talent in organizations: Management by expectations" with the aim of analyzing the stakeholders and spaces that the organization dedicated to attracting and developing talented people in their everyday practices. This provides the reader with a trip by the reality of a service organization, through an ethnographic study

Study of SiPM segmentation in ToF-PET from the optical perspective

    Get PDF
Introduction of SiPM sensor in positron emission tomography (PET) technique has allowed the use of time-of-flight (ToF) information, which improves the imaging technique performance. However, there is still a lot of room for improvement. One approach to increase the image resolution, consists on segmenting the SiPM area into smaller areas and apply an algorithm to recover the maximum possible information. In the literature, it has been shown that this approach can increase the coincidence time resolution (CTR). Here, we study how segmenting the sensor area into smaller sensors affects the time resolution from an optical perspective. In order to accomplish this, we simulated different segmentations and studied how the segmentation a↵ects the CTR of the system. Results show that the CTR doesn’t degrade significantly when segmenting the sensor in a few channels. Therefore, it can be expected an increase on the total CTR if a increase on the electronics performance can be achieved
