    A data base of synthetic photometry in the GALEX ultraviolet bands for the stellar sources observed with the International Ultraviolet Explorer

    The Galaxy Evolution Explorer (GALEX) has produced the largest photometric catalogue of ultraviolet (UV) sources. As such, it has defined the new standard bands for UV photometry: the near UV band (NUV) and the far UV band (FUV). However, due to brightness limits, the GALEX mission has avoided the Galactic plane which is crucial for astrophysical research and future space missions. The International Ultraviolet Explorer (IUE) satellite obtained 63,755 spectra in the low dispersion mode during its 18 years lifetime. We have derived the photometry in the GALEX bands for the stellar sources in the IUE Archive to extend the GALEX data base with observations including the Galactic plane.Good quality spectra have been selected for all IUE classes of stellar sources. The GALEX FUV and NUV magnitudes have been computed using the GALEX transmission curves, as well as the conversion equations between flux and magnitudes provided by the mission (galexgi.gsfc.nasa.gov). Consistency between GALEX and IUE synthetic photometries has been tested using White Dwarfs (WD) contained in both samples. The non-linear response performance of GALEX inferred from this data agrees with the results from GALEX calibration. The photometric data base is made available to the community through the services of the Centre de Donn\'ees Stellaires at Strasbourg (CDS). The catalogue contains FUV magnitudes for 1,631 sources, ranging from FUV=1.81 to FUV=18.65 mag. In the NUV band, the catalogue includes observations for 1,005 stars ranging from NUV = 3.08 to NUV= 17.74 mag . UV photometry for 1,493 not included in the GALEX AIS GR5 catalogue is provided; most of them are hot (O-A spectral type) stars.     Kirjallisessa opinnäytetyössäni tarkastelen tekijän intentioiden merkitystä elokuvan tulkinnan muodostumisessa. Kerronnan välineen ja oman suhteen siihen ymmärtäminen auttaa tarkastelemaan elokuvan muodostumista etäämmältä. Eritelläkseni tekijää, katsojaa ja elokuvaa toisistaan käytän esimerkkinä M. Night Shyamalanin elokuvaa The Happening (2008). Tulkinnan ja selvityksen tukena käytän narratologiasta ja kirjallisuustieteestä peräisin olevaa sisäistekijän käsitettä. Selvitän mitä se tarkoittaa ja minkälainen yksinkertainen kommunikaation paradigma sisältyy narratiiviseen taideteokseen.In my thesis I examine the relevancy of author’s intentions to the interpretation of film. To specify the factors between viewer, author and film I use M. Night Shyamalans The Happening (2008) as an example piece. For support in interpretation and analysis I use the concept of implied author originating from the fields of narratology and comparative literature.     OpinnĂ€ytetyö toteutettiin toimeksiantona yritys X:ÀÀn. Yritys X halusi vastata asiakkaiden tarpeisiin ‎kehittĂ€mĂ€llĂ€ jo olemassa olevien aamiaisten rinnalle sekĂ€ luomu- ettĂ€ lĂ€hiruokaaamiaisen.lisĂ€ksi ‎opinnĂ€ytetyön tavoitteena oli tarkastella luomu- ja lĂ€hiruoka-aamiaisten myyntiĂ€ touko-joulukuun 2009 ‎ajalta. OpinnĂ€ytetyön pÀÀongelmaksi muodostui, miten suunnitellaan, toteutetaan ja seurataan luomu- ja ‎lĂ€hiruoka-aamiaisia yritys X:ssĂ€. OpinnĂ€ytetyön teoriaosassa kĂ€sitellÀÀn puolestaan luomu- ja lĂ€hiruokaa, ‎tuotesuunnitteluprosessia ja palveluyrityksenmarkkinoinnin kilpailukeinoja.‎ Uusien palvelutuotteiden suunnittelu aloitettiin joulukuussa 2008. Suunnittelu eteni ‎tuotesuunnitteluprosessin mukaisesti alkaen ideoinnista ja pÀÀttyen tuotteen lanseeraukseen ‎huhtikuussa 2009. TĂ€mĂ€n jĂ€lkeen myyntiĂ€ seurattiin yritys X:ssĂ€ kuukausiraporttien perusteella touko-‎joulukuun 2009 aikana. Myynti oli alkukuukausina vĂ€hĂ€istĂ€ johtuen heikosta mainonnasta.Yritys X:ÀÀn tuli ‎uusista aamiaisista ensimmĂ€inen pysyvĂ€ mainos lokakuussa 2009. Mainonnan avulla luomu- ja lĂ€hiruoka-‎aamiaisten menekki parani selvĂ€sti. Vaikka opinnĂ€ytetyössĂ€ ei tutkittu asiakkaiden mielipiteitĂ€ uusista ‎aamiaisista, saivat ne suullisesti hyvÀÀ palautetta.‎ OpinnĂ€ytetyöstĂ€ hyötyivĂ€t sekĂ€ yritys X, ettĂ€ sen asiakkaat. Yritys X sai luomu- ja lĂ€hiruoka-aamiaisten ‎avulla lisĂ€myyntiĂ€ ja keinon erottua kilpailijoista. Asiakkaat saivat puolestaan uusien aamiaisten avulla ‎tĂ€ytettyĂ€ tarpeensa.‎Designing and realizing organic and locally produced breakfasts and monitoring their sales in company X The thesis was assigned by company X. Company X wanted to meet the needs of the customers by developing ‎both organic and locally produced breakfasts to complete the present supply of breakfasts. Another objective of ‎the thesis was to monitor the sales of these two breakfast products between May and December 2009. The main ‎research problem of the thesis was how to design, realize and monitor the sales of the organic and locally ‎produced breakfasts in company X. Organic and locally produced food, the product development process and ‎the competitive weapons in the marketing of services are issues discussed in the theoretical part of the thesis.‎ The design of the new service products began in December 2008. The planning advanced according to the ‎service product design, beginning with the creation, and ending with the launch of the new products in April ‎‎2009. After the launch sales were monitored with monthly reports between May and December 2009. Sales ‎were low during the initial months due to the lack of promotion. The first permanent advertisement of the new ‎breakfasts was installed in company X in October 2009. The sales of the organic and locally produced ‎breakfasts improved clearly as an effect of increased promotion. Although the thesis did not study customer ‎opinions of the new breakfasts, it was noted that verbal feedback was good.‎ The thesis was a benefit for both company X and its customers. The organic and locally produced breakfasts ‎gave company X both additional sales and competitive advantage. The customers were able to fulfill their needs ‎with the new breakfasts.

    Breeding biology and long-term population dynamics of the Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca in Skibotn, Northern Norway

    Abstract. The breeding biology and population dynamics of the Pied Flycatcher Ficedula hypoleuca in pine, mixed and deciduous forests in Skibotn, Northern Norway (69°20’N, 20°20’E), was studied during 33 years (1987–2019; in total 1775 completed first clutches). It was a period during which summer temperatures remained relatively stable, but late spring (May) temperatures tended to become warmer. The number of breeding pairs declined over the study period but varied less than in populations living in more harsh subalpine environments. In spite of the northern location, females started to lay eggs in a relatively late phenological phase of the environment and in relatively warm weather. The date of birch leafing and the date of egg-laying advanced during the study period, and they correlated with each other. Mean clutch size was 6.4 eggs, and mean number of fledglings/nest 4.6. Date of egg-laying was earlier and clutch size larger in deciduous forests than in pine and mixed forests, but this did not translate into better fledgling productivity. The main causes of nesting failure were predation by small mustelids and starvation in warm and dry summers. However, in the long run the population seemed to be able to maintain itself without immigration, i.e., act as a source population.
