    Design of e-shoe for Visually Impaired by Using RFID Technology

    It is a known fact that blind people find it extremely difficult to detect their way through obstacles and stairs. Using a white stick to detect the obstacles had been an age old method, which cannot provide complete solution. In order to overcome this problem, an obstacle detecting shoe is developed. It senses the obstacle through ultrasonic sensors and alerts the user through the message. The ultrasonic waves transmitted are reflected by the obstacles and echo is received by the ultrasonic receiver, where the distance is calculated by using a microprocessor. The RFID system is used to assist the blind people. When the reader located on the shoe moves on to a specific tag, unique tag ID is sent to the reader. While in the case of walking in traffic, RF Link Transmitter/receiver is used for traffic signal detection and for passing instructions to the user through voice messages. A timer is used to detect the wet areas and helps the blind to avoid slippery.

    Artificial Intelligence (AI) emerged as an intervention for data and number-related problems. This breakthrough has led to several technological advancements in virtually all fields from engineering to architecture, education, accounting, business, health, and so on. AI has come a long way in healthcare, having played significant roles in data and information storage and management – such as patient medical histories, medicine stocks, sale records, and so on; automated machines; software and computer applications like diagnostic tools such as MRI radiation technology, CT diagnosis and many more have all been created to aid and simplify healthcare measures. Inarguably, AI has revolutionized healthcare to be more effective and efficient and the pharmacy sector is not left out. During the past few years, a considerable amount of increasing interest in the uses of AI technology has been identified for analyzing as well as interpreting some important fields of pharmacy like drug discovery, dosage form designing, polypharmacology, and hospital pharmacy. Given the growing importance of AI, we wanted to create a comprehensive report which helps every practicing pharmacist understand the biggest breakthroughs which are assisted by the deployment of this field

    Reducing the environmental impact of surgery on a global scale: systematic review and co-prioritization with healthcare workers in 132 countries

    Abstract Background Healthcare cannot achieve net-zero carbon without addressing operating theatres. The aim of this study was to prioritize feasible interventions to reduce the environmental impact of operating theatres. Methods This study adopted a four-phase Delphi consensus co-prioritization methodology. In phase 1, a systematic review of published interventions and global consultation of perioperative healthcare professionals were used to longlist interventions. In phase 2, iterative thematic analysis consolidated comparable interventions into a shortlist. In phase 3, the shortlist was co-prioritized based on patient and clinician views on acceptability, feasibility, and safety. In phase 4, ranked lists of interventions were presented by their relevance to high-income countries and low–middle-income countries. Results In phase 1, 43 interventions were identified, which had low uptake in practice according to 3042 professionals globally. In phase 2, a shortlist of 15 intervention domains was generated. In phase 3, interventions were deemed acceptable for more than 90 per cent of patients except for reducing general anaesthesia (84 per cent) and re-sterilization of ‘single-use’ consumables (86 per cent). In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for high-income countries were: introducing recycling; reducing use of anaesthetic gases; and appropriate clinical waste processing. In phase 4, the top three shortlisted interventions for low–middle-income countries were: introducing reusable surgical devices; reducing use of consumables; and reducing the use of general anaesthesia. Conclusion This is a step toward environmentally sustainable operating environments with actionable interventions applicable to both high– and low–middle–income countries

    Effect of resveratrol on the biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation in monocyte cultures from PBMC’s of patients with myocardial infarction

    328-333Globally, one of the major causes of mortality and morbidity is ischemic heart disease (IHD). It has been established that in cardiac disorders, there exists a synergistic correlation between the oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines. The stabilization and regulation of the oxidative stress and inflammatory cytokines in these patients is essential for the better management of the disease. Hence, the aim of this study was to study the effect of natural antioxidant, resveratrol, on the oxidative stress and inflammatory biomarkers in cultures of monocytes isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from the patients with myocardial infarction. Monocytes isolated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMC’s) of patients with myocardial infarction (MI) and healthy controls were employed in culture studies (with and without resveratrol). The 24 h cultures were subjected to evaluation of cytokine/ interleukins levels i.e. TNF-α, IL-1 and IL-6 as well as oxidative stress markers like MDA and Glutathione. The patient’s samples exhibited a significantly decreased level of intramonocyte glutathione as compared to samples of healthy subjects. On the other hand, significantly increased levels of MDA were observed in culture supernatants of monocytes isolated from PBMC’s of patients with MI in comparison to those of healthy controls. A significant degree of amelioration in intramonocyte glutathione levels coupled with decreased MDA levels (culture supernatants) were observed in cultures treated with resveratrol (20 ug/mL). Furthermore, 24 h culture supernatants of untreated patients cells exhibited augmented levels of IL-1, IL-6, and TNF-α. However, co-culturing with resveratrol exhibited a significant decrease in the levels of all the IL-1, IL-6 and TNF-α. Resveratrol—a potent polyphenol from grapes and also a natural antioxidant regulates the oxidative stress and inflammatory biomarkers and may be used as a prophylactic antioxidant in high risk patients

    Addressing quality medication use among migrant patients: Establishment of an organization to provide culturally competent medication care

    As the global landscape continues to witness an increase in migration, the healthcare community faces an evolving challenge: the provision of quality medication care to migrant patients. Language barriers, cultural differences, and a lack of understanding of the local healthcare system can often impede the effective management of medications and access to healthcare services among migrant populations. Pharmacists, as medication experts, are dignified to make a substantial impact in bridging the gap between migrants and quality healthcare. Their expertise in medication management, accessibility, and counseling positions them as critical healthcare providers for this patient population. Pharmacies and pharmacists can serve as trusted hubs where migrants receive not only essential medications but also culturally sensitive support in navigating the healthcare system. This commentary article highlights the critical importance of culturally competent medication care for migrant patients and the central role that pharmacists can play in this endeavor. By establishing organization dedicated to this cause lead by pharmacists, we can not only address an urgent healthcare concern but also set a precedent for a healthcare system that values inclusivity, cultural competence, and equitable access to quality medication care for all, regardless of their cultural background
