    Study of the current-voltage relation for a single C-60 transistor

    The beginning of this century saw the pioneering fabrication of a single molecular transistor using a single C60 molecule between gold nanowires, and inspired experimentalists and theorists alike to focus on studying phonon assisted transport through nanoscale electronic devices. We have formulated an electron tunnelling model for the current-voltage (I-V) relationship for a C60 molecular transistor that reproduces trends observed in the experimental I-V curves. A uniform one dimensional tight-binding lattice is used to model the transistor system, with a central defect site representing the molecule. The current is written as a function of tunnelling rates on and off of the molecule, where the rates are calculated using Fermi\u27s Golden Rule and a Green function technique called the Renormalized Perturbation Expansion. In calculating the tunnelling rates, a deeper understanding of the trends that are seen in the experimental data is attained, and certain new features of the system are uncovered. First, incorporating the degeneracy of the tunnelling state into the expression for the current allows the prediction of the degree of asymmetry in the saturation values for forward and reverse bias current. Also, using the relative sizes of the source-drain voltage gaps for forward and reverse bias current, and the relative sizes of the initial steps in current, we show that the C60 molecule is negatively charged when in a nanometre sized gap between two gold nanowires. Finally, an experimental method for measuring the effect that varying the gate voltage has on the size of the voltage gap between the tunnelling level of the molecule and the Fermi level of the electrodes is obtained

    A Comparative Study of Competitive Anxiety Between Basketball and Volleyball Players

    Anxiety is a psychological and physiological state characterized by somatic, emotional, cognitive, and behavioral components. The root meaning of the word anxiety is `to vex or trouble. The objective of this paper is to compare the competitive anxiety between basketball and volleyball players. For this purpose 40 Male intercollegiate players from Basketball (20) and Volleyball (20) was taken as a sample. For the purpose of this study, the standardized Rainer Marten (SCAT, 1990) Scale was used. The Questionnaire was administered in small groups during the Intercollegiate Basketball and Volleyball tournament. The results of the study have revealed that there is no significant difference between the competitive anxiety of Basketball and Volleyball players of intercollegiate, as no significant difference was seen in the mean score at the Basketball and Volleyball players on competitive anxiety. Therefore it may be said that there is no influence of competitive anxiety at the Basketball and Volleyball players of the inter-college level

    Psychological needs play an important role in the promotion and demotion of tension, because any type of tension provide frustration and these frustrated needs leads towards aggressiveness in the individual, need of direct gain, power, and prestige, need for resolving ambiguous cries and for group belongingness and conformity are the main needs which appear to be of utmost importance. The most of the tensions are due to physical, social, cultural, religious, economic, political and psychological cause, and the stability of the tension has been found to be due to high competition, lack of common goals, lack of contacts, value conflict, ignorance, partiality, prejudices, conformity, and maladjustment and to achieve dominance by someone. The objective of this paper is to study to measure different kinds of tension viz. communal tension, caste tension, and religious tension cultural tension regional tension and language tension. For this purpose Fifty female athletes of age group 18-25 participated in south-west zone inter-varsity tournament of respective sport viz judo, badminton; table tennis, wrestling, swimming, and athletics, during 2007-2008 were selected as subjects for this study at random. COMPREHENSIVE SCALE OF TENSION by Dr. Rajeevlochan Bhardwaj was used. Reliability—IT POSSESS SPILT-HALF RELIABILITY OF .81 THROUGH Spearman Brown Formula and of .88 by Gutman Formula. The reliability of data was ensured through tools reliability as well as tester\u27s reliability. The information gathered was treated with ANOVA  (F-Ratio) technique was used for comparing all the six sports with respect to Locus of control\u27s-Score- All the scores of comprehensive tension scale are converted to T-Score to find out the level of tension in each of six sports and also in total. It is found from The findings that the study indicates that there is no significant difference among female players of Athletics, Weight Lifting, Judo, Badminton, Swimming and Table Tennis. &nbsp

    A reliable approach to customizing linux kernel using custom build tool-chain for ARM architecture and application to agriculture

    ARM processors are receiving more attention as per IoT customized devices are concerned. A novel framework design tool for Linux kernel customization on ARM architecture has been illustrated. The tool is best suit from ARM based platformss like Raspberry pi, Beagle Bone, Intel Edison etc. The proposed techniques uses different tool chains for the kernel customization. The paper represents an integral framework that integrates all the cross compiling tools and simplifies the overall process. The framework has been used for the development of a customized kernel for Raspberry Pi on Ubuntu 14.04 host computer. The custom kernel has been ported in to Raspberry Pi and the performance evaluation has been done. Furthermore, the analysis aims to help users choose and configure their tracers based on their specific requirements to reduce their overhead and get the most of out of them. The testing of customized OS with raspberry Pi device in the field of agriculture. The smart node/mote is designed based on it to deploy in the agriculture field to test its feasibility. The group of nodes data is gathered using ThingSpeak cloud server. The gathered sensory data is analyzed and forecast on farmer’s mobile phone in the form of APP or handheld device for farmer

    RAMPART : a model for a regulatory-ready academic-led phase III trial in the adjuvant renal cell carcinoma setting

MRC CTU at UCL provides funding for staff working on the trial.The development of therapeutics in oncology is a highly active research area for the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries, but also has a strong academic base. Many new agents have been developed in recent years, most with specific biological targets. This has mandated the need to look at different ways to streamline the evaluation of new agents. One solution has been the development of adaptive trial designs that allow the evaluation of multiple agents, concentrating on the most promising agents while screening out those which are unlikely to benefit patients. Another way forward has been the growth of partnerships between academia and industry with the shared goal of designing and conducting high quality clinical trials which answer important clinical questions as efficiently as possible. The RAMPART trial (NCT03288532) brings together both of these processes in an attempt to improve outcomes for patients with locally advanced renal cell carcinoma (RCC), where no globally acceptable adjuvant strategy after nephrectomy currently exist. RAMPART is led by the MRC CTU at University College London (UCL), in collaboration with other international academic groups and industry. We aim to facilitate the use of data from RAMPART, (dependent on outcomes), for a future regulatory submission that will extend the license of the agents being investigated. We share our experience in order to lay the foundations for an effective trial design and conduct framework and to guide others who may be considering similar collaborations.Publisher PDFPeer reviewe

    RAMPART : a phase III multi-arm multi-stage trial of adjuvant checkpoint inhibitors in patients with resected primary renal cell carcinoma (RCC) at high or intermediate risk of relapse

The TransRAMPART sample collection is being funded by a Prospective Sample Collection award from Cancer Research UK.Background 20–60% of patients with initially locally advanced Renal Cell Carcinoma (RCC) develop metastatic disease despite optimal surgical excision. Adjuvant strategies have been tested in RCC including cytokines, radiotherapy, hormones and oral tyrosine-kinase inhibitors (TKIs), with limited success. The predominant global standard-of-care after nephrectomy remains active monitoring. Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) are effective in the treatment of metastatic RCC; RAMPART will investigate these agents in the adjuvant setting. Methods/design RAMPART is an international, UK-led trial investigating the addition of ICIs after nephrectomy in patients with resected locally advanced RCC. RAMPART is a multi-arm multi-stage (MAMS) platform trial, upon which additional research questions may be addressed over time. The target population is patients with histologically proven resected locally advanced RCC (clear cell and non-clear cell histological subtypes), with no residual macroscopic disease, who are at high or intermediate risk of relapse (Leibovich score 3–11). Patients with fully resected synchronous ipsilateral adrenal metastases are included. Participants are randomly assigned (3,2:2) to Arm A - active monitoring (no placebo) for one year, Arm B - durvalumab (PD-L1 inhibitor) 4-weekly for one year; or Arm C - combination therapy with durvalumab 4-weekly for one year plus two doses of tremelimumab (CTLA-4 inhibitor) at day 1 of the first two 4-weekly cycles. The co-primary outcomes are disease-free-survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS). Secondary outcomes include safety, metastasis-free survival, RCC specific survival, quality of life, and patient and clinician preferences.     Promotoras as Mental Health Practitioners in Primary Care: A Multi-Method Study of an Intervention to Address Contextual Sources of Depression

    We assessed the role of promotoras—briefly trained community health workers—in depression care at community health centers. The intervention focused on four contextual sources of depression in underserved, low-income communities: underemployment, inadequate housing, food insecurity, and violence. A multi-method design included quantitative and ethnographic techniques to study predictors of depression and the intervention’s impact. After a structured training program, primary care practitioners (PCPs) and promotoras collaboratively followed a clinical algorithm in which PCPs prescribed medications and/or arranged consultations by mental health professionals and promotoras addressed the contextual sources of depression. Based on an intake interview with 464 randomly recruited patients, 120 patients with depression were randomized to enhanced care plus the promotora contextual intervention, or to enhanced care alone. All four contextual problems emerged as strong predictors of depression (chi square, p < .05); logistic regression revealed housing and food insecurity as the most important predictors (odds ratios both 2.40, p < .05). Unexpected challenges arose in the intervention’s implementation, involving infrastructure at the health centers, boundaries of the promotoras’ roles, and “turf” issues with medical assistants. In the quantitative assessment, the intervention did not lead to statistically significant improvements in depression (odds ratio 4.33, confidence interval overlapping 1). Ethnographic research demonstrated a predominantly positive response to the intervention among stakeholders, including patients, promotoras, PCPs, non-professional staff workers, administrators, and community advisory board members. Due to continuing unmet mental health needs, we favor further assessment of innovative roles for community health workers

    Health, education, and social care provision after diagnosis of childhood visual disability

    Aim: To investigate the health, education, and social care provision for children newly diagnosed with visual disability.Method: This was a national prospective study, the British Childhood Visual Impairment and Blindness Study 2 (BCVIS2), ascertaining new diagnoses of visual impairment or severe visual impairment and blindness (SVIBL), or equivalent vi-sion. Data collection was performed by managing clinicians up to 1-year follow-up, and included health and developmental needs, and health, education, and social care provision.Results: BCVIS2 identified 784 children newly diagnosed with visual impairment/SVIBL (313 with visual impairment, 471 with SVIBL). Most children had associated systemic disorders (559 [71%], 167 [54%] with visual impairment, and 392 [84%] with SVIBL). Care from multidisciplinary teams was provided for 549 children (70%). Two-thirds (515) had not received an Education, Health, and Care Plan (EHCP). Fewer children with visual impairment had seen a specialist teacher (SVIBL 35%, visual impairment 28%, χ2p < 0.001), or had an EHCP (11% vs 7%, χ2p < 0 . 01).Interpretation: Families need additional support from managing clinicians to access recommended complex interventions such as the use of multidisciplinary teams and educational support.
