South African banks and the unbanked: Progress and prospects

Consideration is given to what the big four South African banks have done since the late nineties to open up their lending facilities to the unbanked, taking cognisance of the trends internationally, finally leading to a conclusion as to the most appropriate strategy for the future. The banks' focus has been on lending to low-income salaried individuals, making use of the downscaling strategy. Inappropriate credit technologies in this very competitive market segment led to a serious setback in 2002 when two bank micro-lenders had to terminate their operations. In contrast to their enthusiasm for the low-income market, the banks have shown a lack of interest to engage micro-entrepreneur lending, but this is to an extent vindicated by the international experience. Establishing banks dedicated to micro-finance by means of specialised public/private sector partnerships emerges as the most appropriate strategy to engage with micro-entrepreneurs. Formulation Of Lengkuas Rhizome (Alpinia Galanga L.) Extract's Gel AS Antifungal With Hidroxy Prophyl Methyl Cellulosae (Hpmc) And Carbopol Base

Infection of Malassezia furfur on skin can be caused by bad factor. One of the materials that can be used as an antifungal is Lengkuas rhizome extract (Alpinia galanga L.). This study had purpose to determine the antifungal activity and the effectiveness of gels Lengkuas rhizome extract on pathogenic fungi using maseration method with etanol 96%. Gel making is used HPMC and carbopol base. Testing activity of extract and testing the effectiveness of the gel by disc diffusion method (Kirby-Bauer test). Screening result showed that the extract contains triterpenoids, flavonoids and essential oil. Based on the test results against Malassezia furfur, antifungal activity of the extract in the gel increased compared to extracts without formulated into a gel. But the activity increasing was not significant based on statistical analysis with one-way ANOVA test obtained a significance of 0.234 (p> 0.05)

A Review of Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) Gait Database As a Human Gait Recognition Dataset

Human Gait as the recognition object is the famous biometrics system recently. Many researchers had focused this subject to consider for a new recognition system. One of the important advantage in this recognition compare to other is it does not require observed subject’s attention and cooperation. There are many human gait datasets created within the last 10 years. Some databases that are widely used are University Of South Florida (USF) Gait Dataset, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CASIA) Gait Dataset, and Southampton University (SOTON) Gait Dataset. PENGARUH KONSEP DIRI DAN KEDISIPLINAN TERHADAP PRESTASI BELAJAR SISWA JURUSAN TEKNIK AUDIO VIDEO DI SMK MUHAMMADIYAH 3 YOGYAKARTA

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk : (1) mengetahui konsep diri siswa, kedisiplinan siswa, dan prestasi siswa, (2) mengetahui bagaimanakah pengaruh konsep diri terhadap prestasi belajar siswa, pengaruh kedisiplinan terhadap prestasi belajar siswa, pengaruh konsep diri dan kedisiplinan secara bersama terhadap prestasi belajar siswa. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian ex-post facto. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Jurusan Teknik Audio Video SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta dengan populasi berjumlah 111 orang dengan menggunakan teknik simple random sampling dan didapat sampel sebanyak 84 orang. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode angket dan dokumentasi. Teknik analisis yang digunakan adalah regresi linear sederhana dan regresi ganda. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) konsep diri siswa, kedisiplinan, dan prestasi belajar siswa memiliki kecenderungan dalam kategori tinggi, (2) tidak terdapat pengaruh yang signifikan antara konsep diri dengan prestasi belajar siswa, kedisiplinan dengan prestasi belajar siswa, konsep diri dan kedisiplinan secara bersama terhadap prestasi belajar siswa kelas XI dan XII Jurusan Teknik Audio Video SMK Muhammadiyah 3 Yogyakarta

Perkembangan teknologi yang terdapat pada handphone berbasis GSM sekarang ini sangat pesat. Handphone tidak hanya digunakan sebagai alat komunikasi suara saja, tetapi juga sebagai alat untuk memudahkan pengguna handphone dalam kehidupan sehari-hari. Fasilitas untuk pengaksesan internet, e-mail, organizer, game dan lain sebagainya yang dapat langsung dipakai melalui handphone, merupakan beberapa contoh fasilitas yang ditawarkan kepada pengguna handphone. Pada awal perkembangan aplikasi mobile device terutama handphone, masing – masing vendor membuat platform sendiri – sendiri, sehingga aplikasi yang dibuat hanya untuk sebuah produk atau merk tertentu saja. Tetapi dengan perkembangan di bidang teknologi sun Microsystem mengeluarkan edisi khusus dari Java yaitu Java 2 Micro Edition (J2ME) untuk keperluan pengembangan aplikasi di bidang mobile device. Dengan kemudahan pengembangan aplikasi di mobile device, maka dibuat “Aplikasi Mobile Game Igo”. Tahap-tahap yang dilakukan dalam pembuatan games ini dimulai dengan melakukan analisis mengenai game action pada handphone dengan teknologi bluetooth. Kemudian permainan ini diimplementasikan dengan memakai Java 2 Micro Edition. Game yang dibuat akan dapat dimainkan secara singleplayer dan multiplayer dengan menggunakan koneksi bluetooth. Setiap pemain dalam game ini akan memiliki batu yang diletakkan diatas papan permainan secara bergiliran
