The Link between General Relativity and Shape Dynamics

We show that one can construct two equivalent gauge theories from a linking theory and give a general construction principle for linking theories which we use to construct a linking theory that proves the equivalence of General Relativity and Shape Dynamics, a theory with fixed foliation but spatial conformal invariance. This streamlines the rather complicated construction of this equivalence performed previously. We use this streamlined argument to extend the result to General Relativity with asymptotically flat boundary conditions. The improved understanding of linking theories naturally leads to the Lagrangian formulation of Shape Dynamics, which allows us to partially relate the degrees of freedom.Comment: 19 pages, LaTeX, no figure

Dependence analysis of ethanol, suga, oil, BRL/USD exchange rate and Bovespa: a vine copula approach

Este trabalho tempor objetivo analisar a relação de dependência entre o setor sucroalcooleiro (representado por Etanol e Açúcar), Petróleo, Taxa de Câmbio R$/US$ e o mercado acionário brasileiro (representado pelo índice BOVESPA). A metodologia utilizada é baseada em pair-cópulas e são comparadas três especificações: Regular Vine, a forma mais geral, e dois casos particulares Vine Canônico e Drawable vine. Os resultados obtidos indicaram relações de dependência alinhadas com a literatura existente, mas mostraramque estas relações se alteram significativamente quando a dependência condicional é levada em conta.The aim of this study is to assess the dependence relationship of the sugarcane sector (represented by Ethanol and Sugar), Oil, BRL/USD Exchange Rate and Brazilian stock market (represented by the BOVESPA – Bolsa de Valores de São Paulo – Index). Our methodology is based on paircopulas constructions, in which tree specification are compared: Regular Vine, more general, and two particular cases, Canonical vine (C-vine) and Drawable vine (D-vine). Primary results are shown to be aligned with the existing literature but they can change significantly when conditional dependence is taken into account

Electronic Origin of the Inhomogeneous Pairing Interaction in the High-Tc Superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d

Identifying the mechanism of superconductivity in the high-temperature cuprate superconductors is one of the major outstanding problems in physics. We report local measurements of the onset of superconducting pairing in the high-transition temperature (Tc) superconductor Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+d using a lattice-tracking spectroscopy technique with a scanning tunneling microscope. We can determine the temperature dependence of the pairing energy gaps, the electronic excitations in the absence of pairing, and the effect of the local coupling of electrons to bosonic excitations. Our measurements reveal that the strength of pairing is determined by the unusual electronic excitations of the normal state, suggesting that strong electron-electron interactions rather than low-energy (<0.1 volts) electron-boson interactions are responsible for superconductivity in the cuprates

Health and Safety procedures and documentations are one of the many tasks that need to be done by a small retail shop, they are also one of the most difficult things to manage daily as all those can build up during the day/week. Inside Health and Safety there are many subcategories that need to be administered (maintenances, trainings and checklists for example) which can be very overwhelming for any management team notably in small retail shops as they do not have the permanent personnel to be able to maintain an organised system. This project aims to create a management software to assist a business to conduct all those procedures in an easier and more efficient manner

E por falar em mulheres: relatos, intimidades e ficções na escrita de Marina Colasanti

Programa de Pós-graduação em LiteraturaEste trabalho analisa textos publicados pela escritora Marina Colasanti durante a década de 80, no Brasil. Este período histórico compreende o final do regime militar e o início de um processo de redemocratização do país, bem como da visibilidade de um discurso feminista mais concreto e da consolidação do movimento feminista brasileiro. Os textos de Colasanti selecionados para esta análise obedecem à seguinte seqüência: artigos compilados nos livros A nova mulher e Mulher daqui pra frente; o livro Intimidade Pública, que consiste nas respostas de Colasanti às cartas de leitoras que escreveram para a revista Nova e, finalmente, uma pequena seleção de contos destinados ao público infantil, juvenil e adulto. Através da articulação dos diálogos que estes textos mantêm entre si, buscou-se compreender como Colasanti procurou discutir certos comportamentos sociais já internalizados, que vinham, há séculos, sugerindo um espaço secundário para a mulher em diversos âmbitos sociais. Assim, a pluralidade textual de Colasanti caracteriza-se, dentro do período analisado, como um espaço privilegiado de representação, interpretação e articulação da experiência social feminina

O efeito das ações afirmativas na permanência dos estudantes de uma universidade federal brasileira : análise sob a perspectiva da teoria da justiça

The study aims to identify the Affirmative Actions (aas) promoted among students of business programs at a Brazilian federal university and analyze whether, in the students’ opinion, they meet the fundamental assumptions of the theory of justice. The documentary survey of aas examines student housing, financial aid for student parents, food, transport, permanence, and pedagogical support. Sixty-two respondents took part in the survey. The results show that personal factors, especially those of a psychological nature, adversely affect the permanence and performance of university students. Considering the students’ perception of Rawl’s “equal liberty” and equality of opportunity, the university’s aas are understood to reflect the assumptions of John Rawls’ theory of justice.El estudio tiene como objetivo identificar las Acciones Afirmativas (aa) que se promueven entre los estudiantes de los programas de negocios de una universidad federal brasileña y analizar si, en la opinión de los estudiantes, estas cumplen con los supuestos fundamentales de la teoría de la justicia de John Rawls. En la encuesta documental de las aa se examina la vivienda de los estudiantes, la ayuda financiera para dependientes, la alimentación, el transporte, la permanencia y el apoyo pedagógico. Sesenta y dos estudiantes participaron en la encuesta. Los resultados muestran que los factores personales, en especial los de naturaleza psicológica, afectan de manera negativa la permanencia y el desempeño de los estudiantes universitarios. Teniendo en cuenta la percepción de los estudiantes de los principios de igual libertad e igualdad de oportunidades, se entiende que las aa de la universidad reflejan los supuestos de la teoría de la justicia.Este estudo tem o objetivo de identificar as ações afirmativas (aa) que são promovidas entre os estudantes dos cursos de negócio de uma universidade federal brasileira e analisar se, na opinião deles, elas cumprem com os pressupostos fundamentais da teoria da justiça de John Rawls. Na pesquisa documental de aa, a residência dos estudantes, o apoio financeiro para dependentes, a alimentação, o transporte, a permanência e o apoio pedagógico são examinados. Participaram da pesquisa 62 estudantes. Os resultados mostram que os fatores pessoais, em especial os de natureza psicológica, afetam de maneira negativa a permanência e o desempenho dos universitários. Considerando a percepção dos estudantes sobre os princípios de liberdade igualitária e igualdade de oportunidades, entende-se que as aa da universidade refletem os pressupostos da teoria da justiça

Programa de Residência Pedagógica: da revisão de literatura as vivências na escola pública

The objective of this work is to analyze the favorable and unfavorable aspects regarding the Pedagogical Residency Program (PRP) in scientific production, added to the authors' experiences as residents of the program in public schools. Qualitative in nature, the research is characterized as a literature review. From the perspective of favorable evaluation, it was noticed that the PRP provided the training and improvement of new teachers and the strengthening of ties between universities and public schools. In contrast, criticisms suggest that the PRP takes a pragmatic view of teacher education; it lacks understanding of teacher training in its entirety; and greater articulation with the demands of the community. In view of the critical analysis of the studies, it is noted that the proposals brought in the PRP are relevant for initial training, however, some points of this program must be reviewed, to enable critical teachers training in its entirety.O objetivo deste trabalho é analisar os aspectos favoráveis e desfavoráveis a respeito do Programa de Residência Pedagógica (PRP), com base na produção científica e na experiência dos autores como residentes do programa em escolas públicas. De natureza qualitativa, a pesquisa caracteriza-se como uma revisão de literatura. Na perspectiva dos aspectos favoráveis, observou-se que o PRP proporcionou a formação e o aperfeiçoamento dos novos professores, bem como o estreitamento dos laços entre universidade e escola pública. Em contraponto, as críticas sugerem que o PRP tem uma visão pragmática da formação de professores; falta-lhe compreensão da formação docente em sua totalidade e maior articulação com as demandas da comunidade. Diante das análises críticas dos estudos, nota-se que as propostas trazidas no PRP são relevantes para uma formação inicial, entretanto, alguns pontos no programa devem ser revistos para possibilitar a formação de professores críticos em sua totalidade

Observation of Replica Symmetry Breaking in the 1D Anderson Localization Regime in an Erbium-Doped Random Fiber Laser

The analogue of the paramagnetic to spin-glass phase transition in disordered magnetic systems, leading to the phenomenon of replica symmetry breaking, has been recently demonstrated in a two-dimensional random laser consisting of an organic-based amorphous solid-state thin film. We report here the first demonstration of replica symmetry breaking in a one-dimensional photonic system consisting of an erbium-doped random fiber laser operating in the continuous-wave regime based on a unique random fiber grating system, which plays the role of the random scatterers and operates in the Anderson localization regime. The clear transition from a photonic paramagnetic to a photonic spin glass phase, characterized by the probability distribution function of the Parisi overlap, was verified and characterized. In this unique system, the radiation field interacts only with the gain medium, and the fiber grating, which provides the disordered feedback mechanism, does not interfere with the pump
