Rainwater Harvesting for Agricultural Irrigation: An Analysis of Global Research

    Get PDF
Within a context of scarce water resources for agriculture, rainwater harvesting constitutes a promising alternative that has been studied by different disciplines in recent years. This article analyses the dynamics of global research on rainwater harvesting for agricultural irrigation over the last two decades. To do this, qualitative systematic analysis and quantitative bibliometric analysis have been carried out. The results reveal that this line of research is becoming increasingly important within research on irrigation. Environmental sciences and agricultural and biological sciences are the most relevant subject areas. Agricultural Water Management, Physics and Chemistry of the Earth, and Irrigation and Drainage are the journals that have published the most articles on the subject. India, China, the United States (USA), South Africa, and the Netherlands are the countries that lead this line of research. Although significant progress has been made in this subject area, it is necessary to increase the number of studies on the capacity of rainwater harvesting systems to cover irrigation needs in different farming contexts, the factors that determine their adoption by farmers, the economic and financial feasibility of their implementation, and their contribution to mitigating global climate change

Guía de gestión educativa para nivel inicial

This product has as purpose to present a potentially useful monitoring tool, for the daily actions of the educational director, particularly focused on the initial level. Such interest is born after the deficient results obtained in tests effected to the country, at both the national (SER) and international levels (SERCE), including the results presented in National report of educational progress of Ecuador, published in 2006. Here we can see the imperative need of drastic changes in education. Beyond resources and physical structures, change is inherent in the "head" of the educational system of Ecuador, that is to say, in the way such as have been managed educational processes, without becoming absorbed in the department of education of Ecuador, because outside of the transformations made in this organism and taking as a starting point the decentralization, the change must be effected from the internal management of every educational center.

[ABSTRACT] The relationships can help establish between performance and art therapy have sparked this investigation in order to reflect on the role that art can take action in Artherapy spaces. The action art (performance art) in relation to Artherapy is presented as a way that, starting from the body, can help people to make sense and create meaning in their. Artherapy process. Action art and works of its artists allow us to investigate the peculiarities of this field of art, emphasis on the three pillars of performance: presence, space and time. A journey through the creative processes in Artherapy helps us to reflect on possible ways and the individual contributions. The three case studies of different workshops, which have in common the spontaneous creation articulated by the action, allow us to investigate the potential role of performative actions in Artherapy workshops

Sustainable Irrigation in Agriculture: An Analysis of Global Research

    Get PDF
Irrigated agriculture plays a fundamental role as a supplier of food and raw materials. However, it is also the world’s largest water user. In recent years, there has been an increase in the number of studies analyzing agricultural irrigation from the perspective of sustainability with a focus on its environmental, economic, and social impacts. This study seeks to analyze the dynamics of global research in sustainable irrigation in agriculture between 1999 and 2018, including the main agents promoting it and the topics that have received the most attention. To do this, a review and a bibliometric analysis were carried out on a sample of 713 articles. The results show that sustainability is a line of study that is becoming increasingly more prominent within research in irrigation. The study also reveals the existence of substantial differences and preferred topics in the research undertaken by different countries. The priority issues addressed in the research were climatic change, environmental impact, and natural resources conservation; unconventional water resources; irrigation technology and innovation; and water use efficiency. Finally, the findings indicate a series of areas related to sustainable irrigation in agriculture in which research should be promoted

Endocrine Disruptors in Food: Impact on Gut Microbiota and Metabolic Diseases

The results presented in this article constitute part of Yolanda Gálvez-Ontiveros doctoral thesis, performed in the Nutrition and Food Sciences Doctorate Program of the University of Granada.Endocrine disruptors (EDCs) have been associated with the increased incidence of metabolic disorders. In this work, we conducted a systematic review of the literature in order to identify the current knowledge of the interactions between EDCs in food, the gut microbiota, and metabolic disorders in order to shed light on this complex triad. Exposure to EDCs induces a series of changes including microbial dysbiosis and the induction of xenobiotic pathways and associated genes, enzymes, and metabolites involved in EDC metabolism. The products and by-products released following the microbial metabolism of EDCs can be taken up by the host; therefore, changes in the composition of the microbiota and in the production of microbial metabolites could have a major impact on host metabolism and the development of diseases. The remediation of EDC-induced changes in the gut microbiota might represent an alternative course for the treatment and prevention of metabolic diseases. This work was carried out within the frame of GP/EFSA/ENCO/380 2018/03/G04: OBEMIRISK: Knowledge platform for assessing the risk of Bisphenols on gut microbiota and its role in obesogenic phenotype: looking for biomarkers. This research was also funded by Plan Estatal de I+D+I 2013-2016, Proyecto cofinanciado FEDER-ISCIII PI17/01758, Proyecto cofinanciado FEDER-Consejería de Salud y Familias, Junta de Andalucía PE-0250-2019 and by Fundación Mapfre MAPFRE2018

A pulsatile mass in the posterior triangle of the neck may induce concern when it grows and starts to bother. We present the case of a young woman who consulted for this reason, in whom a verticalized subclavian artery was identified due to coexistence with cervical rib. Being, for the moment, asymptomatic, it only required a preventive attitude, in addition to an evolutionary follow-up for the possibility of the development of a compressive condition due to thoracic gorge syndrome and/or an arterial aneurysm.

Molecular Alterations in Pancreatic Cancer: Transfer to the Clinic.

    Get PDF
Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDA) is the most common cancer of the exocrine pancreas and probably the tumor that has benefited the least from clinical progress in the last three decades. A consensus has been reached regarding the histologic classification of the ductal preneoplastic lesions (pancreatic intra-epithelial neoplasia—PanIN) and the molecular alterations associated with them. Mutations in KRAS and inactivation of CDKN2A, SMAD4 and TP53 are among the most prevalent alterations. Next generation sequencing studies are providing a broad picture of the enormous heterogeneity in this tumor type, describing new mutations less prevalent. These studies have also allowed the characterization of different subtypes with prognostic value. However, all this knowledge has not been translated into a clinical progress. Effective preventive and early diagnostic strategies are essential to improve the survival rates. The main challenge is, indeed, to identify new effective drugs. Despite many years of research and its limited success, gemcitabine is still the first line treatment of PDA. New drug combinations and new concepts to improve drug delivery into the tumor, as well as the development of preclinical predictive assays, are being explored and provide optimism and prospects for better therapies.post-print335 K

An observational, longitudinal and retrospective study has been carried out with the purpose of evaluate the effectiveness, safety and acceptability of all patients who started the treatment with dimetilfumarato in 2015 at the Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias in Oviedo./nThe features of the patients included in the study were similar to those of the pivotal studies (DEFINE and CONFIRM),and in both cases patients were diagnosed with relapsing recurrent multiple sclerosis (RRMS). ,with a similar range of age and percentages highly close regarding the allocation by sex, being women majority./nThe study has been carried out during seven months, thus it has not been possible to get solid data of effectivity.I is important to point out  that during the period of the study only one patient had a relapse./nRegarding safety data it was concluded that most prominent adverse effects were gastrointestinal pain and redness./nIn order to evaluate the acceptibility of the treatment patients filled a questionaire at the moment when they went to collect the treatment to the Dispensing Area Outpatients. In this regard, we consider that the treatment has been well accepted by patients as it was for oral administrationSe ha realizado un estudio observacional, longitudinal y retrospectivo para evaluar la efectividad, seguridad y aceptabilidad de todos los pacientes que iniciaron tratamiento con dimetilfumarato en 2015 en el Hospital Universitario Central de Asturias (Oviedo).
