Objetive: To understand the importance of the Therapeutic Exercise on the improvement of the physical fitness of dancers, in order to prevent the injury rate and increase the performance level. Methods: It is a bibliographic review, with a research made in experimental and scientific articles through Pubmen; ScienceDirect and SportDiscuss. Results: There were included 8 articles, with a total of 256 participants, analyzed methodologically through the Critical Appraisal Skills Programme (CASP). It was verified the improvement of the physical fitness of the dancers particularly in strength; aerobic endurance; motor control; posture; flexibility; pain and anthropometric measures. Conclusion: The Therapeutic Exercise/Training programs, as a complement to dancer’s activity, results in the improvement of their physical fitness, increasing the performance level and preventing injuries. However, the heterogeneity of the protocols and the sample don’t allow us to have a precise conclusion, which limits the possibility of inference.N/

Trauma and the Fictional Self-Portrait in Margaret Atwood's Cat's Eye and Ana Teresa Pereira's As Rosas Mortas

UIDB/04097/2020 UIDP/04097/2020 UI/BD/151107/2021Found at the crossroads between aesthetics and referentiality, portraiture is a hybrid form of painting conflating inner and outer references. Although the perceived connection and 'likeness' between work of art and the subject being depicted seems to differentiate portraiture from other kinds of paintings, this relationship to a perceived reality is far from linear, particularly so when portraits or other works of art are represented in literature - a longstanding literary device known as ekphrasis. The present article will demonstrate how literary representations of portraiture (more specifically, of self-portraiture) can be used to symbolise a narrative's underlying themes and motifs, namely, in Margaret Atwood's Cat's Eye (1988) and Ana Teresa Pereira's As Rosas Mortas (1998). Elaine and Marisa, Atwood and Pereira's first-person narrators, are both painters creating and describing a variety of self-portraits inspired by childhood trauma, fragmented memories, and the subconscious mind. Artistic self-expression becomes, in these novels, the distorted and indirect medium through which Elaine and Marisa question, integrate, and accept the traumatic and, at times, the monstrous within. This article will compare Atwood and Pereira's use of ekphrasis and examine how fictional self-portraits can be used to explore the relationship between subject and self-representation - an essentially fragmented and unstable relationship, especially so for survivors of trauma.publishersversionpublishe

High school students’ questions about science and religion in school debates with scientists

    Get PDF
The paper describes an analysis of the questions posed by high school students regarding relationships between science and religion in a series of debates with scientists in public high schools of the northern part of Portugal. The exploratory interpretation of 171 collected anonymous written questions allowed for the detection of fragilities in the students’ ideas about the nature of science and the nature of religion, connected with a trend to reject religion using scientism arguments. The findings reinforce a need of revising the fragmented teaching of nature of science and its connections with religion towards a more contextualized approach of diversified episodes of these social endeavours, anchored in life’s ‘big questions’ that allow students to make cross-disciplinary connections. Our analysis also supports the need for more research on students’ questions rather than on students’ answers in more common research methodologies conducted to inform the development of a more meaningful curriculum. This work is financed by Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologia (FCT) within the project UIDB/00081/2020. Specifying UML protocol state machines in Alloy

    Get PDF
A UML Protocol State Machine (PSM) is a behavioral diagram for the specification of the external behavior of a class, interface or component. PSMs have been used in the software development process for different purposes, such as requirements analysis and testing. However, like other UML diagrams, they are often difficult to validate and verify, specially when combined with other artifacts, such as Object Constraint Language (OCL) specifications. This drawback can be overcome by application of an off-the-shelf formal method, namely one supporting automatic validation and verification. Among those, we have the increasingly popular Alloy, based on a simple relational flavor of first-order logic. This paper presents a model transformation from PSMs, optionally complemented with OCL specifications, to Alloy. Not only it enables automatic verification and validation of PSMs, but also a smooth integration of Alloy in current software development practices.Fundação para a Ciência e a Tecnologi

Exploring the benefits of digital-Native e-tailers expanding their presence offline

    Get PDF
Digital-native brands are currently expanding offline to brick-and-mortar. The purpose of the Work Project is to explore how the expansion from online to offline is managed, understanding the business strategies under this trajectory and the benefits that come with it. Thus, the present report provides a multi-case analysis of three brands–each one representing a key business model adopted by the digital-first brands, namely Direct-to-Consumer, E-commerce Platforms, and Collaborative Consumption Platforms. The main research insights are presented in two segments: firstly, the benefits of expanding offline according to each business model; and, secondly, general benefits covering the three models
