Memórias da Infância e da Educação: abordagens eliasianas sobre as mulheres

Relações sociais entre indivíduos estão pautadas pela experiência de educação e formação que cada um traz consigo ao longo da vida, pelo modo como se constituem individual e coletivamente. A partir de Elias e da metodologia da história oral, o objetivo foi buscar nas memórias de infância de sete mulheres, professoras de crianças, nascidas entre 1950 e 1970, a formação e a educação que se constituiu na infância em espaços privados e domésticos. Apreendeu-se que a escolha profissional tem vínculos com a educação feminina, normatizada por regras de controle e civilidade

Genomic epidemiology of carbapenemase producing Klebsiella pneumoniae strains at a northern Portuguese hospital enables the detection of a misidentified Klebsiella variicola KPC-3 producing strain

This article is an open access article distributed under the terms and conditions of the Creative Commons Attribution (CC BY) license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/).The evolutionary epidemiology, resistome, virulome and mobilome of thirty-one multidrug resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae clinical isolates from the northern Vila Real region of Portugal were characterized using whole-genome sequencing and bioinformatic analysis. The genomic population structure was dominated by two main sequence types (STs): ST147 (n = 17; 54.8%) and ST15 (n = 6; 19.4%) comprising four distinct genomic clusters. Two main carbapenemase coding genes were detected (blaKPC-3 and blaOXA-48) along with additional extended-spectrum β-lactamase coding loci (blaCTX-M-15, blaSHV-12, blaSHV-27, and blaSHV-187). Moreover, whole genome sequencing enabled the identification of one Klebsiella variicola KPC-3 producer isolate previously misidentified as K. pneumoniae, which in addition to the blaKPC-3 carbapenemase gene, bore the chromosomal broad spectrum β-lactamase blaLEN-2 coding gene, oqxAB and fosA resistance loci. The blaKPC-3 genes were located in a Tn4401b transposon (K. variicolan = 1; K. pneumoniaen = 2) and Tn4401d isoform (K. pneumoniaen = 28). Overall, our work describes the first report of a blaKPC-3 producing K. variicola, as well as the detection of this species during infection control measures in surveillance cultures from infected patients. Casimir Effect, Achucarro-Ortiz Black Hole and the Cosmological Constant

We treat the two-dimensional Achucarro-Ortiz black hole (also known as (1+1) dilatonic black hole) as a Casimir-type system. The stress tensor of a massless scalar field satisfying Dirichlet boundary conditions on two one-dimensional "walls" ("Dirichlet walls") is explicitly calculated in three different vacua. Without employing known regularization techniques, the expression in each vacuum for the stress tensor is reached by using the Wald's axioms. Finally, within this asymptotically non-flat gravitational background, it is shown that the equilibrium of the configurations, obtained by setting Casimir force to zero, is controlled by the cosmological constant.Comment: 20 pages, LaTeX, minor corrections, comments and clarifications added, version to appear in Phys. Conflictos Socioambientales en Jalisco

El proyecto consistió en el desarrollo de una estrategia de creación de material audiovisual útil y de calidad, mismo que será desarrollado a lo largo de los siguientes períodos para la creación de contenidos de redes sociales y de la plataforma de fondeo. El objetivo fue colaborar en conjunto con organizaciones no gubernamentales que trabajan con afectados ambientales, con el fin de darles una imagen digna e íntegra, así como mayor visibilidad a las problemáticas socioambientales y a las alternativas que se están realizando. El trabajo se realizó por medio de la investigación etnográfica, a través de entrevistas semiestructuradas y de la observación participante, lo que conllevo a la recopilación datos y al registro de las necesidades de los afectados; así como el análisis de material audiovisual producido en otras campañas o colectivos en materia de sustentabilidad y medio ambiente. Long-term geospace climate monitoring

Climate change is characterized by global surface warming associated with the increase of greenhouse gas population since the start of the industrial era. Growing evidence shows that the upper atmosphere is experiencing appreciable cooling over the last several decades. The seminal modeling study by Roble and Dickinson (1989) suggested potential effects of increased greenhouse gases on the ionosphere and thermosphere cooling which appear consistent with some observations. However, several outstanding issues remain regarding the role of CO2, other important contributors, and impacts of the cooling trend in the ionosphere and thermosphere: for example, (1) what is the regional variability of the trends? (2) the very strong ionospheric cooling observed by multiple incoherent scatter radars that does not fit with the prevailing theory based on the argument of anthropogenic greenhouse gas increases, why? (3) what is the effect of secular changes in Earth’s main magnetic field? Is it visible now in the ionospheric data and can it explain some of the regional variability in the observed ionospheric trends? (4) what is the impact of long-term cooling in the thermosphere on operational systems? (5) what are the appropriate strategic plans to ensure the long-term monitoring of the critical space climate

Lower insulin-dose adjusted A1c (IDAA1c) is associated with less complications in Individuals with Type 1 Diabetes treated with hematopoetic stem-cell transplantation and conventional therapy

Objective: To evaluate the association between insulin-dose adjusted A1C (IDAA1c) and microvascular complications (MC) and hypoglycemia in a representative Brazilian population of Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) patients. Research Design and Methods: This was a cross-sectional study based on a previous study, “Microvascular Complications in Type 1 Diabetes: a comparative analysis of patients treated with autologous nonmyeloablative hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (AHST) and conventional medical therapy (CT)”. The 168 patients in that study (144 from CT plus 24 from AHST) were re-subdivided into two groups, according to their IDAA1c values (30 patients had IDAA1c ≤ 9; 138 had IDAA1c > 9). Then, the prevalence of MC (diabetic renal disease, neuropathy, and retinopathy), hypoglycemia (blood glucose <60 mg/dL), and severe hypoglycemic (episode of hypoglycemia that required the assistance of another person to treat) events were compared between the groups. The groups were well-matched on these factors: duration of disease, sex, and age at the time of diagnosis of T1DM. Results: After an average of 8 years after diagnosis, only 6.6% (2/30) of the patients from IDAA1c ≤ 9 group developed any MC, whereas 21.0% (29/138) from the IDAA1c > 9 group had at least one complication (p = 0.044). Regarding hypoglycemic events, the proportion of individuals who reported at least 1 episode of hypoglycemia in the last month was 43.3 and 64.7% from the IDAA1c ≤ 9 and IDAA1c > 9 groups, respectively (p = 0.030). Regarding severe hypoglycemia, the proportion of patients presenting at least one episode in the last month and the rate of episode/patient/month were similar between groups (6.7 vs. 13.2%; p = 0.535; and 0.1/patient/month vs. 0.25/patient/month; p = 0.321). Conclusion: In a representative Brazilian population of T1DM patients, those with IDAA1c ≤ 9 presented a lower frequency of MC, as well as fewer episodes of hypoglycemia, in the month prior to the analysis.publishedVersio

Uma coleção de história em um museu de ciências naturais: o Museu Paulista de Hermann von Ihering

Instalado em um edifício-Monumento, data de 1895 a inauguração do Museu Paulista. Seu primeiro diretor, o zoólogo Hermann Von Ihering (1895-1916), teve a tarefa de organizar suas vastas coleções, as quais possuíam objetos de diversos ramos do conhecimento, entre eles, a História. Este artigo tem a intenção de entender a dimensão, dinâmica e concepção desta coleção de História, que recebeu pouca atenção da Historiografia relativa ao tema.The Museu Paulista, installed in a landmark building, was inaugurated in 1895. Its first director, the zoologist Herman von Ihering (1895-1916) undertook the assignment of organizing its extensive collections, which comprehended objects pertaining to varied fields of knowledge, including that of History. The present article aims at understanding the dimension, the dynamics and the conception of this historical collection. Microenvironment Changes (in pH) Affect VEGF Alternative Splicing

Vascular endothelial growth factor-A (VEGF-A) has several isoforms, which differ in their capacity to bind extracellular matrix proteins and also in their affinity for VEGF receptors. Although the relative contribution of the VEGF isoforms has been studied in tumor angiogenesis, little is known about the mechanisms that regulate the alternative splicing process. Here, we tested microenvironment cues that might regulate VEGF alternative splicing. To test this, we used endometrial cancer cells that produce all VEGF isoforms as a model, and exposed them to varying pH levels, hormones, glucose and CoCl2 (to mimic hypoxia). Low pH had the most consistent effects in inducing variations in VEGF splicing pattern (VEGF121 increased significantly, p < 0.001, when compared to VEGF145, 165 or 189). This was accompanied by activation of the p38 stress pathway and SR proteins (splicing factors) expression and phosphorylation. SF2/ASF, SRp20 and SRp40 down-regulation by siRNA impaired the effects of pH stimulation, blocking the shift in VEGF isoforms production. Taken together, we show for the first time that acidosis (low pH) regulates VEGF-A alternative splicing, may be through p38 activation and suggest the possible SR proteins involved in this process
