    Feira de Ciências Itinerante e Exposições Sistematizadas: ferramentas didáticas inclusivas para a educação ambiental

    Entende-se a necessidade de ações que promovam uma educação ambiental dinâmica, multidisciplinar e baseada no processo de ensino-aprendizagem de forma direcionada a todos os cidadãos, incluindo as pessoas deficientes. Desta forma, foi realizado um trabalho interativo de divulgação científica, por meio de feiras de ciências itinerantes e exposições sistematizadas, nas quais animais taxidermizados foram utilizados para proporcionar conhecimentos a diferentes grupos da sociedade. Por meio de exposições sistematizadas em uma instituição que assiste pessoas deficientes, foi possível trabalhar os conceitos de educação ambiental. Essas atividades proporcionaram ao público-alvo um entendimento específico sobre diferenças morfológicas e sobre a importância da educação ambiental para a formação de um cidadão consciente.http://dx.doi.org/10.35700/ca.2021.ano8n15.p73-81.305

    Alterações laboratoriais inerentes à lesão renal aguda induzida por aminoglicosídeos em ratos wistar

    A lesão renal aguda (LRA) é definida como um aumento superior a 0,3 mg/dL da creatinina sérica em 48 horas e é a principal causa de morte em pacientes em unidades de terapia intensiva. Vinte e quatro ratos Wistar foram divididos em três grupos: Controle (solução salina 0,9%), Genta (gentamicina 50 mg.kg-1 BID) e Des + Genta (gentamicina 50 mg.kg-1 BID + restrição hídrica) e testados em um Modelo AKI por administração de aminoglicosídeos e sujeição à desidratação. Os animais do grupo Des + Genta apresentaram o menor peso médio e o menor consumo de ração após o quinto dia de experimento. Nesse mesmo período, o consumo de água do grupo Genta foi inferior ao do grupo Controle, mas nos dias posteriores do experimento, o grupo Genta apresentou polidipsia. O grupo Des + Genta apresentou média de uréia sérica mais elevada após o quinto dia. Os grupos tratados com gentamicina apresentaram médias superiores à do grupo Controle para a creatinina sérica, que se mostrou um marcador renal tardio de IRA. O valor de GGT sérico foi maior no grupo Des + Genta, enquanto o valor de GGT urinário foi maior nos grupos que receberam gentamicina, caracterizando enzimúria, mas a desidratação severa pode mascarar os resultados por apresentar valores falsos negativos. A enzima GGT urinária não atuou como um biomarcador precoce de IRA. A diminuição da taxa de filtração glomerular aumentou a concentração de componentes do sangue e mascarou componentes urinários e teciduais.     Effect of black sesame (Sesamum indicum) and flaxseed flour (Linum usitatissimum) on bread quality using surface response methodology.

    The study aimed to evaluate the effect of black sesame and flaxseed flour addition in different proportions on bread quality. The bread formulations were developed through the Rotational Central Composite Design (RCCD). The independent variables were: black sesame and flaxseed flour which incorporated in amounts from 25.85% to 54.15%. The effect of the ingredients on bread quality was evaluated through physical parameters (specific volume, expansion index and volume produced). Statistical analysis was performed using response surface methodology and the two formulations with better technical performance were submitted to proximate composition (moisture, protein, fat, ash, carbohydrates and calcium), crumb structure, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and sensorial analysis. It has been found that black sesame promotes greater reductions in the mass expansion capacity than flax meal. There was an improvement in the nutritional value of the loaves by increasing the protein content, ashes, fat and calcium, in addition to the reduction of carbohydrates. The breads developed had good acceptability in all evaluated attributes. In this way, the inclusion of black sesame and flaxseed flour as ingredients in bread formulations promotes products with technological and sensorial quality.     Inguinal Hernia with Splenic Incarceration in a Male Dog

    Background: Hernias are changes with the displacement of organs from their normal anatomical location to a newly formed cavity, which can cause pain and dysfunction of the affected organ. The diagnosis can be obtained by palpation or by ultrasound. The treatment of choice is surgical and vision to promote the return of the organ to its normal anatomical position and the closure of the hernial ring. When affixing the edges of the hernial ring is not possible, alternative techniques such as the use of biological or synthetic membranes should be sought. The aim of the present study is to report an atypical case of inguinal hernia with splenic incarceration, in which splenectomy and herniorrhaphy with a bovine phrenic center were performed.  Case: An 8-year-old large mestizo male dog was referred to the Veterinary Hospital of Uberaba complaining of the appearance of a mass in the inguinal region that increased significantly in the last 15 days. On physical examination, there was an increase in volume in the left inguinal region, irreducible and great pain sensitivity in the region. The hemogram showed normochromic normocytic anemia, hyperproteinemia and thrombocytopenia. No changes were observed in the biochemical analyzes. Urinalysis revealed the presence of protein and traces of occult blood. Ultrasound showed an enlarged spleen inside the hernial sac, closing the diagnosis of inguinal hernia. The animal underwent a herniorrhaphy procedure associated with the use of a biological membrane from a bovine phrenic center and splenectomy. In addition, contralateral inguinal hernia was observed. The animal remained hospitalized and under observation for three days. On return, after five days, the guardian reported that the animal was urinating by dripping and had increased volume in the region of the surgery. Urethral catheterization was performed without difficulty and the region of swelling was punctured, obtaining a serosanguinous liquid. Ten days after surgery, stitches were removed and contralateral herniorrhaphy and orchiectomy were recommended. The animal showed complete healing of the surgical wound, but did not return for treatment of the contralateral inguinal hernia.Discussion: Inguinal hernia is considered rare in male dogs, especially in non-neutered animals, and few cases have been described, most of which are over the age of four years. In the present report, the dog is male, not neutered and is eight years old, in line with the findings of the highest occurrence in this species. Inguinal hernia can be hereditary, congenital or acquired from trauma or hormonal changes, and its etiology is poorly understood. The dog in this report acquired this condition in adulthood, and it was not possible to define the cause of the hernia, however it is believed that there is a possibility of muscle weakness associated with the patient's weight. Inguinal hernia in non-neutered dogs usually progresses to inguino-scrotal hernia, and cases in the Brazilian queue breed have been described. In this work, the herniated content was irreducible contrary to what is generally reported. In inguinal hernia, the most observed content is the intestinal loops, but the bladder and colon have already been seen. In the animal in this report, the spleen appeared as herniated content. The diagnosis can be made by palpation when the hernia is reducible, but it does not allow the definition of the hernia content. In cases of incarcerated hernias, it is necessary to perform an ultrasound which also allows the definition of the hernia content. The recommended treatment is surgical by herniorrhaphy, as was done in this patient. During surgery, muscle atrophy was observed in the inguinal region, but the tutor did not authorize the placement of polypropylene mesh for financial reasons. The alternative used and authorized by the tutor was the use of a biological membrane that achieved a satisfactory result, with few complications in the postoperative period

Polymeric nanoparticles have increasing demands in pharmaceutical applications and require high reproducibility, homogeneity, and control over their properties. Work explores the use of cashew phthalate gum (PCG) as a particle-forming polymer. PCG exhibited a pH-sensitive behavior due to the of acid groups on its chains, and control drug release. We report the development of nanoparticles carrying benznidazole. Formulations were characterized by DLS, encapsulation efficiency, drug loading, FTIR, pH-responsive behavior, release, and in vitro kinetics. Interaction between polymer and drug was an evaluated by molecular dynamics. Morphology was observed by SEM, and in vitro cytotoxicity by MTT assay. Trypanocidal effect for epimastigote and trypomastigote forms was also evaluated. NPs responded to the slightly basic pH, triggering the release of BNZ. In acidic medium, they presented small size, spherical shape, and good stability. It was indicated NP with enhanced biological activity, reduced cytotoxicity, high anti T. cruzi performance, and pH-sensitive release. This work investigated properties related to the development and enhancement of nanoparticles. PCG has specific physicochemical properties that make it a promising alternative to drug delivery, however, there are still challenges to be overcome.publishersversionpublishe

    Rare genetic variants involved in multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children: a multicenter Brazilian cohort study

    IntroductionDespite the existing data on the Multisystem Inflammatory Syndrome in Children (MIS-C), the factors that determine these patients evolution remain elusive. Answers may lie, at least in part, in genetics. It is currently under investigation that MIS-C patients may have an underlying innate error of immunity (IEI), whether of monogenic, digenic, or even oligogenic origin.MethodsTo further investigate this hypothesis, 30 patients with MIS-C were submitted to whole exome sequencing. ResultsAnalyses of genes associated with MIS-C, MIS-A, severe covid-19, and Kawasaki disease identified twenty-nine patients with rare potentially damaging variants (50 variants were identified in 38 different genes), including those previously described in IFNA21 and IFIH1 genes, new variants in genes previously described in MIS-C patients (KMT2D, CFB, and PRF1), and variants in genes newly associated to MIS-C such as APOL1, TNFRSF13B, and G6PD. In addition, gene ontology enrichment pointed to the involvement of thirteen major pathways, including complement system, hematopoiesis, immune system development, and type II interferon signaling, that were not yet reported in MIS-C.DiscussionThese data strongly indicate that different gene families may favor MIS- C development. Larger cohort studies with healthy controls and other omics approaches, such as proteomics and RNAseq, will be precious to better understanding the disease dynamics
