In this reflexive theoretical study, we intend to define an emerging Theory of Education, the "Theory of knowledge transfer", according to which teachers and educators promote and develop entrepreneurial skills and teach how to design a life project adjusted to interests, potentials and capabilities. So that individuals are able to autonomously use their skills and knowledge to achieve their own personal and social goals. Without forgetting that the cultivation of values and attitudes towards entrepreneurship are not innate, but learned in different ways and levels. In these times of economic and labor crisis, both the involvement of education professionals and those responsible for educational, social and labor policies are demanded

Variable geographic distribution of Blastocystis subtypes and its potential implications.

    Get PDF
Blastocystis is a common intestinal micro-eukaryote found in both humans and non-human hosts and known to be genetically very diverse. It has been divided into numerous subtypes (STs), nine of which have been identified in humans to date. Surveys of ST prevalence have started to emerge over the past few years but to date no data are available for any African country except Egypt and Tanzania. In this study, we determined the prevalence of Blastocystis STs in populations from Libya, Liberia and Nigeria, as well as expanding the dataset available for the UK. A total of 356 Blastocystis STs were identified in this study, 271 from the UK, 38 from Libya, 25 from Liberia and 22 from Nigeria. SSU rRNA gene sequences revealed the presence of eight of the nine STs known from humans but at varying frequencies between countries. ST1 was the most common ST in Libya and Nigeria whereas ST3 showed the highest frequency in the other two countries, as indeed is the case in most populations around the world. ST4 was absent in Libya and ST2 in Nigeria, while no ST5, ST6, ST8 or ST9 infections were detected in any of the three African populations. The picture emerging from this and other surveys suggests that there is significant variation in ST prevalence between populations. Some of the possible reasons for and implications of this diversity are discussed

Obesity Induces Hypothalamic Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress and Impairs Proopiomelanocortin (POMC) Post-translational Processing

It was shown previously that abnormal prohormone processing or inactive proconverting enzymes that are responsible for this processing cause profound obesity. Our laboratory demonstrated earlier that in the diet-induced obesity (DIO) state, the appetite-suppressing neuropeptide -melanocyte-stimulating hormone ( -MSH) is reduced, yet the mRNA of its precursor protein proopiomelanocortin (POMC) remained unaltered. It was also shown that the DIO condition promotes the development of endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and leptin resistance. In the current study, using an in vivo model combined with in vitro experiments, we demonstrate that obesity-induced ER stress obstructs the post-translational processing of POMC by decreasing proconverting enzyme 2, which catalyzes the conversion of adrenocorticotropin to -MSH, thereby decreasing -MSH peptide production. This novel mechanism of ER stress affecting POMC processing in DIO highlights the importance of ER stress in regulating central energy balance in obesity.Fil: Cakir, Isin. Extending Wertheim’s perturbation theory to the solid phase of Lennard-Jones chains: Determination of the global phase diagram

Wertheim’s first order thermodynamic perturbation theory (TPT1) [M. S. Wertheim, J. Chem. Phys. 87, 7323 (1987)] is extended to model the solid phase of chains whose monomers interact via a Lennard-Jones potential. Such an extension requires the free energy and contact values of the radial distribution function for the Lennard-Jones reference system in the solid phase. Computer simulations have been performed to determine the structural properties of the monomer Lennard-Jones system in the solid phase for a broad range of temperatures and densities. Computer simulations of dimer Lennard-Jones molecules in the solid phase have also been carried out. The theoretical results for the equation of state, the internal energy, and the sublimation curve of the dimer model in the solid phase are in excellent agreement with the simulation data. The extended theory is used to determine the global (solid–liquid–vapor) phase diagram of the LJ dimer model; the theoretical estimate of the triple point temperature for the LJ dimer is T*=0.653. Similarly, Wertheim’s TPT1 is used to determine the global phase diagram of chains formed by up to 8 monomer units. It is found that the calculated triple point temperature is hardly affected by the chain length, and that for large chain lengths the fluid–solid equilibrium coexistence densities are virtually independent of the number of monomers in the chain when the densities are expressed in monomer units. This is in agreement with experimental indications observed in polyethylene, where both the critical and the triple point temperatures tend to finite values for large molecular weights.Financial support is due to Project No. BFM-2001-1420- C02-01 and BFM-2001-1420-C02-02 of the Spanish DGICYT (Dirección General de Investigación Científica y Técnica). Deontología del maestro/a de Educación Infantil: Desarrollo de valores humanos con técnicas cooperativas

    Get PDF
Assessing adolescents 'appraisal of significant adults' goal-involving criteria for judging their success in physical education and sport settings: a missing link in the socialization process

    Get PDF
This study examined psychometric properties of a measure of adolescents' appraisal of criteria used for judging their sport and physical education success by their significant adults (PACEDOS). To facilitate coherent comparisons among significant adults in achievement settings, the same measure was used for the four of them (mother, father, and coach or PE teacher). Participants were 505 Spanish adolescents (M=13.85 years of age, SD = .76). Support for two dimensions, namely a task-involving criteria and ego-involving criteria, emerged across the four administrations via CFA, as well as evidence for internal consistency. Predictive validity findings suggested that the PACEDOS was distinct from perceptions of the motivational climate. Results revealed differences in gender, between athletes/non-athletes, and among the adolescents' appraisals of the four social agents' ego and task-involving criteria. Particularly, parents played a gendered role and sport leaders (coach/PE teacher) played a performative/educational role in adolescents' appraisal of the criteria used for judging their success in sport and PE contexts. The PACEDOS appeared to be a valid and reliable instrument, which allows coherent comparisons among different significant adults and it may help for understanding adolescents' sport and PE socialization

Graph-Based Approach to the Edit Distance Cryptanalysis of Irregularly Clocked Linear Feedback Shift Registers

This paper proposes a speed-up of a known-plaintext attack on some stream ciphers based on Linear Feedback Shift Registers (LFSRs). The algorithm consists of two basic steps: first, to guess the initial seed value of one of the LFSRs, and then to use the resulting binary sequence in order to deduce useful information about the cipher parameters. In particular, the proposed divide-and-conquer attack is based on a combination of graph-based techniques with edit distance concepts. While the original edit distance attack requires the exhaustive search over the set of all possible initial states of the involved LFSR, this work presents a new heuristic optimization that avoids the evaluation of an important number of initial states through the identification of the most promising branches of the search graph. The strongest aspects of the proposal are the facts that the obtained results from the attack are absolutely deterministic, and that many inconsistent initial states of the target LFSRs are recognized and avoided during search. This work was supported by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation and European FEDER Fund under Project TIN2008-02236/TSI as well as by CDTI (Spain)and the companies INDRA, Unin Fenosa, Tecnobit, Visual Tool, Brainstorm, SAC and Technosafe under Project Cenit-HESPERIA.Peer reviewe
