    A arborização, seja em grupo ou isolada, exerce papel fundamental na manutenção dos microclimas urbanos, pois atenua a radiação solar incidente no solo ou nas construções, além do sombreamento que juntamente com q evapotranspiração contribuem para reduzir a temperatura, no entanto, nem sempre a utilização desses espaços é saudável. No mês de novembro, correspondente ao verão, a cidade de Cuiabá apresenta altos índices de temperatura e umidade. Com isso, foi realizada nesse período, a seguinte pesquisa. A partir de dezenove pontos, foi feito um levantamento de microclima e índice de conforto térmico no Parque Estadual MassairoOkamura, sendo essa uma unidade de conservação de suma importância para a comunidade local e o clima da região. Constatou-se então horários não propícios para a utilização do espaço do parque, como os horários matutinos.

    Exploratory Efficacy of Calcium-Vitamin D Milk Fortification and Periodontal Therapy on Maternal Oral Health and Metabolic and Inflammatory Profile

    In this 2 × 2 factorial, outcome-assessor blinded, feasibility randomised trial we explored the effect of a non-pharmaceutical multi-component intervention on periodontal health and metabolic and inflammatory profiles among pregnant women with periodontitis receiving prenatal care in a Brazilian public health centre. 69 pregnant women (gestational age ≤20 weeks, T0) were randomly allocated into four groups: (1) fortified sachet (vitamin D and calcium) and powdered milk plus periodontal therapy during pregnancy (early PT) (n = 17); (2) placebo sachet and powdered milk plus early PT (n = 15); (3) fortified sachet and powdered milk plus late PT (after delivery) (n = 19); (4) placebo sachet and powdered milk plus late PT (n = 18). Third trimester (T1) and 6–8 weeks postpartum (T2) exploratory outcomes included periodontal health (% sites with bleeding on probing (BOP)), glucose, insulin, C-Reactive Protein, serum calcium and vitamin D. The mean BOP was significantly reduced in the early PT groups, while BOP worsened in the late PT groups. No significant effect of fortification on BOP was observed. Changes in glucose levels and variation on birthweight did not differ among groups This feasibility trial provides preliminary evidence for estimating the minimum clinically important differences for selected maternal outcomes. A large-scale trial to evaluate the interventions’ clinical benefits and cost-effectiveness is warranted

    Association between Pre-Pregnancy BMI and Inflammatory Profile Trajectories during Pregnancy and Postpartum in Brazilian Women with Periodontitis:The IMPROVE Trial

    This study aimed to explore the association between pre-pregnancy BMI and longitudinal changes in inflammatory markers from the second trimester of pregnancy to 6–8 weeks postpartum in women with periodontitis. This is a secondary exploratory analysis of 68 women who took part in a feasibility clinical trial in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Inflammatory markers included C-reactive protein (CRP), interleukin-6 (IL-6), interleukin-10 (IL-10), and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) blood concentrations at 11–22 (T0) and 30–36 gestational weeks (T1), and 6–8 weeks postpartum (T3). Longitudinal generalised linear mixed-effects models were used to identify possible associations between pre-pregnancy BMI and changes in concentrations of inflammatory markers. Pre-pregnancy excess weight (β = 4.39; 95% CI, 2.12–6.65) was significantly associated with increased CRP levels from pregnancy to postpartum. There were no significant associations between pre-pregnancy BMI and longitudinal changes in IL-6, IL-10 and MMP-9. Our findings provide evidence that a higher pre-pregnancy BMI may lead to increases in CRP levels during pregnancy in women with periodontitis, irrespective of the severity of clinical periodontal parameters. Further studies need to investigate if predictors of changes in inflammatory markers can be used as prognostic factors for gestational outcomes

    A IDEAÇÃO SUICIDA E A SÍNDROME DE BURNOUT EM MÉDICOS RESIDENTES – UMA REVISÃO BIBLIOGRÁFICA

    INTRODUCTION: Burnout Syndrome is composed of a triad characterized by emotional exhaustion, affective distance (depersonalization) and reduced professional fulfillment. Suicidal ideation is generally portrayed as a fleeting thought of meaninglessness in life, which can extend to a strong concern about why one is alive or about the conception of acts that lead to the end of life. OBJECTIVES: To understand the factors related to the presence of suicidal ideation and Burnout syndrome in residency programs and collaborate with studies and understandings about the mechanisms of treatment and prevention of suicidal ideation and Burnout Syndrome in the training of medical residents. METHODS: Literature review based on the selection of articles and journals, published in English and Portuguese, between 2001 and 2021, in online platforms such as SciELO, PubMed, Medline and DeCS. DISCUSSION: Despite the positive correlation, there is no theoretical basis to conclude that suicidal ideation is a likely outcome of Burnout Syndrome or whether the associated high prevalence of psychiatric disorders such as depression is a precipitating factor in the onset of symptoms of suicidal ideation. CONCLUSION: The prevalence of Burnout in resident physicians is higher than in the general population. Suicidal ideation, despite its lower prevalence, was even more evident in individuals previously diagnosed with Burnout Syndrome. Some practices that help to reduce these illnesses are to provide residents with experiences of voluntary care, preventive actions in public health, primary care and, in addition to offering opportunities to teach classes and lectures for students in the health area, which helps to escape of the stressful environment.INTRODUÇÃO: A Síndrome de Burnout é composta por uma tríade caracterizada por exaustão emocional, distanciamento afetivo (despersonalização) e reduzida realização profissional. A ideação suicida é retratada de forma geral como um pensamento fugaz de falta de sentido na vida, podendo estender-se até uma forte inquietação quanto ao porquê de estar vivo ou a concepção de atos que levem ao fim da vida. OBJETIVOS: Compreender os fatores relacionados à presença de ideação suicida e síndrome de Burnout em programas de residência médica e colaborar com os estudos e entendimentos acerca dos mecanismos de tratamento e prevenção da ideação suicida e da Síndrome de Burnout na formação dos médicos residentes. MÉTODOS: Revisão bibliográfica realizada a partir da seleção de artigos e periódicos, publicados em Inglês e Português, entre 2001 a 2021, em plataformas online como SciELO, PubMed, Medline e DeCS. DISCUSSÃO: Apesar da correlação positiva, não há substrato teórico para concluir que a ideação suicida é desfecho provável da Síndrome de Burnout ou se a alta prevalência associada de transtornos psiquiátricos como a depressão é fator precipitante no aparecimento dos sintomas da ideação suicida. CONCLUSÃO: A prevalência de Burnout em médicos residentes é maior que na população em geral. A ideação suicida, apesar da menor prevalência, foi ainda mais evidente em indivíduos previamente diagnosticados com a Síndrome de Burnout. Algumas práticas que ajudam na redução dessas enfermidades são propiciar aos residentes experiências de atendimento voluntário, ações de prevenção em saúde pública, atendimentos na atenção primária e além de oferecer oportunidades de ministrar aulas e palestras para estudantes da área da saúde, o que auxilia na fuga do ambiente de estresse

    Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050.     Genomics and epidemiology for gastric adenocarcinomas (GE4GAC): a Brazilian initiative to study gastric cancer

    Abstract Gastric cancer (GC) is the fifth most common type of cancer worldwide with high incidences in Asia, Central, and South American countries. This patchy distribution means that GC studies are neglected by large research centers from developed countries. The need for further understanding of this complex disease, including the local importance of epidemiological factors and the rich ancestral admixture found in Brazil, stimulated the implementation of the GE4GAC project. GE4GAC aims to embrace epidemiological, clinical, molecular and microbiological data from Brazilian controls and patients with malignant and pre-malignant gastric disease.     Impact of COVID-19 on cardiovascular testing in the United States versus the rest of the world

    Objectives: This study sought to quantify and compare the decline in volumes of cardiovascular procedures between the United States and non-US institutions during the early phase of the coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted the care of many non-COVID-19 illnesses. Reductions in diagnostic cardiovascular testing around the world have led to concerns over the implications of reduced testing for cardiovascular disease (CVD) morbidity and mortality. Methods: Data were submitted to the INCAPS-COVID (International Atomic Energy Agency Non-Invasive Cardiology Protocols Study of COVID-19), a multinational registry comprising 909 institutions in 108 countries (including 155 facilities in 40 U.S. states), assessing the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on volumes of diagnostic cardiovascular procedures. Data were obtained for April 2020 and compared with volumes of baseline procedures from March 2019. We compared laboratory characteristics, practices, and procedure volumes between U.S. and non-U.S. facilities and between U.S. geographic regions and identified factors associated with volume reduction in the United States. Results: Reductions in the volumes of procedures in the United States were similar to those in non-U.S. facilities (68% vs. 63%, respectively; p = 0.237), although U.S. facilities reported greater reductions in invasive coronary angiography (69% vs. 53%, respectively; p < 0.001). Significantly more U.S. facilities reported increased use of telehealth and patient screening measures than non-U.S. facilities, such as temperature checks, symptom screenings, and COVID-19 testing. Reductions in volumes of procedures differed between U.S. regions, with larger declines observed in the Northeast (76%) and Midwest (74%) than in the South (62%) and West (44%). Prevalence of COVID-19, staff redeployments, outpatient centers, and urban centers were associated with greater reductions in volume in U.S. facilities in a multivariable analysis. Conclusions: We observed marked reductions in U.S. cardiovascular testing in the early phase of the pandemic and significant variability between U.S. regions. The association between reductions of volumes and COVID-19 prevalence in the United States highlighted the need for proactive efforts to maintain access to cardiovascular testing in areas most affected by outbreaks of COVID-19 infection

    ATLANTIC EPIPHYTES: a data set of vascular and non-vascular epiphyte plants and lichens from the Atlantic Forest

    Epiphytes are hyper-diverse and one of the frequently undervalued life forms in plant surveys and biodiversity inventories. Epiphytes of the Atlantic Forest, one of the most endangered ecosystems in the world, have high endemism and radiated recently in the Pliocene. We aimed to (1) compile an extensive Atlantic Forest data set on vascular, non-vascular plants (including hemiepiphytes), and lichen epiphyte species occurrence and abundance; (2) describe the epiphyte distribution in the Atlantic Forest, in order to indicate future sampling efforts. Our work presents the first epiphyte data set with information on abundance and occurrence of epiphyte phorophyte species. All data compiled here come from three main sources provided by the authors: published sources (comprising peer-reviewed articles, books, and theses), unpublished data, and herbarium data. We compiled a data set composed of 2,095 species, from 89,270 holo/hemiepiphyte records, in the Atlantic Forest of Brazil, Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay, recorded from 1824 to early 2018. Most of the records were from qualitative data (occurrence only, 88%), well distributed throughout the Atlantic Forest. For quantitative records, the most common sampling method was individual trees (71%), followed by plot sampling (19%), and transect sampling (10%). Angiosperms (81%) were the most frequently registered group, and Bromeliaceae and Orchidaceae were the families with the greatest number of records (27,272 and 21,945, respectively). Ferns and Lycophytes presented fewer records than Angiosperms, and Polypodiaceae were the most recorded family, and more concentrated in the Southern and Southeastern regions. Data on non-vascular plants and lichens were scarce, with a few disjunct records concentrated in the Northeastern region of the Atlantic Forest. For all non-vascular plant records, Lejeuneaceae, a family of liverworts, was the most recorded family. We hope that our effort to organize scattered epiphyte data help advance the knowledge of epiphyte ecology, as well as our understanding of macroecological and biogeographical patterns in the Atlantic Forest.
