Social interaction of the young elderly with their siblings: A comparison to the social interaction with their adult children.

The study was undertaken to explore the extent to which the young elderly interact socially with their siblings. Information on the elder\u27s adult children was presented as a base for comparison. An extensive survey of the literature provided information on the current knowledge of the elderly and their family relationships. Data was collected from 79 subjects, participants at Senior Centre, who completed a self-administered questionnaire. Demographic data on subjects was provided. The major finding of the study showed that contact and participation was not as frequent with the siblings as it was with adult children. However data revealed that siblings are an important part of the social support network of the young elderly. In view of these findings there appeared to be some justification for helping professionals to include siblings in the social support network of the young elderly. Finally, suggested areas for future research on relationships of the young elderly were presented. (Abstract shortened by UMI.) Pengembangan Media Pembelajaran Interaktif Berbantuan Nearpod Untuk Meningkatkan Hasil Belajar Siswa Pada Materi Gerak Parabola

Pada pendidikan masa kini, guru tidak lagi menjadi pusat pada proses pembelajaran, melainkan siswa yang harus lebih aktif dan tentunya menjadi pusat pada proses pembelajaran. Pemanfaatan teknologi sebagai media pembelajaran harus dikembangkan dengan pembaharuan pembelajaran yang lebih kreatif dan inovatif. Media pembelajaran yang kreatif dan inovatif dapat membantu siswa dalam belajar, dan dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar. Untuk itutujuan penelitian ini adalah mengembangkan media pembelajaran interaktif menggunakan Nearpod untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas XI di salah satu SMAN di Kota Bengkulu pada materi gerak parabola. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian dan pengembangan dengan menggunakan model pengembangan ADDIE yang terdiri dari lima tahap yaitu analisis, perencanaan, pengembangan, implementasi dan evaluasi. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas XI di salah satu SMAN di Kota Bengkulu. Wawancara, observasi, angket dan dokumentasi digunakan sebagai teknik pengumpulan data. Berdasarkan hasil  uji validitas produk menunjukkan bahwa media pembelajaran interaktif berbantuan nearpod memenuhi kriteria tertinggi sebesar 88,72 %. Dari hasil analisis uji respon, jawaban siswa terhadap angket disimpulkan bahwa media pembelajaran interaktif berbantuan nearpod memenuhi kriteria sangat baik dengan persentase 85 %. Pada uji lapangan diperoleh hasil N-gain sebesar 0,74 yang termasuk dalam klasifikasi tinggi. Dengan demikian pengembangan media pembelajaran interaktif berbantuan Nearpod sangat layak dan efektif untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa SMAN di Kota Bengkulu pada materi gerak parabola dan mendapatkan respon yang sangat baik

Bringing benefits of chickpea to more men and women farmers in Southern Ethiopia

Researchers in the “Promoting Adoption of Chickpea Technology (PACT)” project identified new areas in the highlands of Ethiopia for chickpea seed multiplication. The aim of the next phase of the project is to understand and promote the key drivers and processes that will facilitate and accelerate large-scale adoption of chickpea production technology. In the first six months of implementation, the project has expanded its reach from 45 farmers to 794, of which 20% are women. The Urologist's View of Male Overactive Bladder: Discrepancy between Reality and Belief in Practical Setting

PURPOSE: In order to gain insight into the physicians' awareness of and attitude towards management of overactive bladder (OAB) in males, we performed a nationwide survey of the current strategies that urologists use to diagnose and manage OAB in male patients. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A probability sample was taken from the Korean Urological Association Registry of Physicians, and a random sample of 289 Korean urologists were mailed a structured questionnaire that explored how they manage benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). RESULTS: A total of 185 completed questionnaires were returned. The consent rate in the survey was 64.5%. Eighty-one (44%) urologists believed that of all males with lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), 20% or more had OAB and 72 (39%) believed that 10-20% had OAB. Half of the urologists surveyed believed that the most bothersome symptom in male OAB patients was nocturia. Seventy-three percent of respondents reported that they prescribed alpha blockers with anticholinergics for first line management, while 19% of urologists prescribed alpha blocker monotherapy but not anticholinergics for OAB patients. Though acute urinary retention (AUR) was considered the anticholinergic adverse event of most concern, the most frequently observed adverse event was dry mouth (95%). CONCLUSION: The present study provides insights into urologist views of male OAB. There is a discrepancy between the awareness of urologists and actual patterns of diagnosis and treatment of male OAB. This finding indicates the need to develop further practical guidelines based on solid clinical data.ope

Ecological observations on Thromidia catalai Pope & Rowe, 1977 in the Ogasawara Islands

父島列島の兄島瀬戸における潜水調査によって、オオフトトゲヒトデの大型個体が高密度に生息していることが確認された。また、同所において、ヨツウデデスマカイメン属の一種（Theonella sp.）を摂食する本種個体およびその食痕が複数確認された。一方、聟島列島の三ノ岩においては腕を引きちぎられたオオフトトゲヒトデが確認され、本種の被食が示唆された。Our diving surveys at Anijima Seto strait on the Ogasawara Islands confirmed the presence of a high density of large individuals of Thromidia catalai. In the same area, several individuals of the species were feeding on sponges (Theonella sp.) and their feeding marks were also observed.
