Direct test of time-reversal symmetry in the entangled neutral kaon system at a -factory
We present a novel method to perform a direct T (time reversal) symmetry test
in the neutral kaon system, independent of any CP and/or CPT symmetry tests.
This is based on the comparison of suitable transition probabilities, where the
required interchange of in out states for a given process is obtained
exploiting the Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen correlations of neutral kaon pairs
produced at a -factory. In the time distribution between the two decays,
we compare a reference transition like the one defined by the time ordered
decays with the T -conjugated one defined by . With the use of this and other T conjugated comparisons, the KLOE-2
experiment at DANE could make a significant test
Precision Measurement of KS Meson Lifetime with the KLOE detector
Using a large sample of pure, slow, short lived K0 mesons collected with KLOE
detector at DaFne, we have measured the KS lifetime. From a fit to the proper
time distribution we find tau = (89.562 +- 0.029_stat +- 0.043_syst) ps. This
is the most precise measurement today in good agreement with the world average
derived from previous measurements. We observe no dependence of the lifetime on
the direction of the Ks.Comment: 5 pages, 7 figure
The effect of estrogen and tamoxifen on hepatocyte proliferation in Vivo and in Vitro
We have previously shown that changes in estrogen‐hepatocyte interaction occur during liver regeneration. Following 70% hepatectomy, estrogen levels in the blood were elevated, the number of estrogen receptors in the liver was increased and there was an active translocation of estrogen receptors from the cytosol to the nucleus. The injection of tamoxifen, an estrogen antagonist, inhibits hepatocyte proliferation following partial hepatectomy. The administration of 1 μg tamoxifen per gm body weight at zero time or 6 hr after the operation resulted in a significant inhibition both of DNA synthesis and of the number of cells in mitosis. Injections of tamoxifen 12 hr or later after the operation had no effect. Concomitant injections of equimolar amounts of estrogen abolished the inhibition by tamoxifen. The effects of estrogen and tamoxifen were also tested on hepatocytes in primary culture. Estrogens in the presence of 5% normal rat serum stimulated hepatocyte DNA synthesis as determined by [3H]thymidine incorporation and the labeling index, whereas epidermal growth factor‐induced DNA synthesis in the absence of normal rat serum was strongly inhibited. Tamoxifen, in contrast, inhibited DNA synthesis of hepatocytes in the presence of 5% normal rat serum and reversed the stimulatory effect of estrogen in the same system. Attempts to elucidate the mechanism of tamoxifen inhibition in vitro indicated that one effect of tamoxifen is to prevent the amiloride‐sensitive Na+ influx necessary to initiate hepatocyte proliferation. Study of the process e+e- -> omega pi0 in the phi-meson mass region with the KLOE detector
We have studied the e+e- -> omegapi0 cross section in the sqrt(s) interval
1000-1030 MeV using the pi+pi-pi0pi0 and pi0pi0gamma final states with a sample
of ~600 pb^-1 collected with the KLOE detector at DAFNE. By fitting the
observed interference pattern around M_phi for both final states, we extract
the ratio of the decay widths Gamma(omega->pi0gamma)/Gamma(omega->pi+pi-pi0) =
0.0897 +- 0.0016 and derive the branching fractions BR(omega -> pi+pi-pi0)=
(90.24 +- 0.19)%, BR(omega -> pi0gamma) = (8.09 +- 0.14)%. The parameters
describing the e+e- -> omegapi0 reaction around M_\phi are also used to extract
the branching fraction for the OZI and G-parity violating phi -> omegapi0
decay: BR(phi->omegapi0) = (4.4 +- 0.6)x10^-5.Comment: 12 Pages, 4 figures, submitted to Physics Letter
Two-body hadronic charmed meson decays
We study in this work the two-body hadronic charmed meson decays, including
both the PP and VP modes. The latest experimental data are first analyzed in
the diagrammatic approach. The magnitudes and strong phases of the flavor
amplitudes are extracted from the Cabibbo-favored (CF) decay modes using
minimization. The best-fitted values are then used to predict the
branching fractions of the singly-Cabibbo-suppressed (SCS) and
doubly-Cabibbo-suppressed decay modes in the flavor SU(3) symmetry limit. We
observe significant SU(3) breaking effects in some of SCS channels. In the case
of VP modes, we point out that the and amplitudes cannot be
completely determined based on currently available data. We conjecture that the
quoted experimental results for both and are overestimated. We compare the sizes of color-allowed and
color-suppressed tree amplitudes extracted from the diagrammatical approach
with the effective parameters and defined in the factorization
approach. The ratio is more or less universal among the , and modes. This feature allows
us to discriminate between different solutions of topological amplitudes. For
the long-standing puzzle about the ratio , we argue that, in addition to the SU(3)
breaking effect in the spectator amplitudes, the long-distance resonant
contribution through the nearby resonance can naturally explain why
decays more copiously to than through the

Measurement of the slope parameter with the KLOE detector
We present a measurement of the slope parameter for the decay, with the KLOE experiment at the DANE -factory,
based on a background free sample of 17 millions mesons produced
in radiative decays. By fitting the event density in the Dalitz plot we
determine \alpha = -0.0301 \pm 0.0035\,stat\;_{-0.0035}^{+0.0022}\,syst\,.
The result is in agreement with recent measurements from hadro- and

Direct CP violation in two-body hadronic charmed meson decays
Motivated by the recent observation of CP violation in the charm sector by
LHCb, we study direct CP asymmetries in the standard model (SM) for the singly
Cabibbo-suppressed two-body hadronic decays of charmed mesons using the
topological-diagram approach. In this approach, the magnitude and the phase of
topological weak annihilation amplitudes which arise mainly from final-state
rescattering can be extracted from the data. Consequently, direct CP asymmetry
at tree level can be reliably estimated. In general, it
lies in the range . Short-distance QCD
penguins and penguin annihilation are calculated using QCD factorization. Their
effects are generally small, especially for modes. Since weak penguin
annihilation receives long-distance contributions from the color-allowed tree
amplitude followed by final-state rescattering, it is expected to give the
dominant contribution to the direct CP violation in the decays
and in which is absent. The maximal
, the direct CP asymmetry difference between the
above-mentioned two modes, allowed in the SM is around -0.25%, more than
away from the current world average of .Comment: 19 pages, 2 figures; typos correcte
Optical pulsations from a transitional millisecond pulsar
Weakly magnetic, millisecond spinning neutron stars attain their very fast
rotation through a 1E8-1E9 yr long phase during which they undergo
disk-accretion of matter from a low mass companion star. They can be detected
as accretion-powered millisecond X-ray pulsars if towards the end of this phase
their magnetic field is still strong enough to channel the accreting matter
towards the magnetic poles. When mass transfer is much reduced or ceases
altogether, pulsed emission generated by particle acceleration in the
magnetosphere and powered by the rotation of the neutron star is observed,
preferentially in the radio and gamma-ray bands. A few transitional millisecond
pulsars that swing between an accretion-powered X-ray pulsar regime and a
rotationally-powered radio pulsar regime in response to variations of the mass
in-flow rate have been recently identified. Here we report the detection of
optical pulsations from a transitional pulsar, the first ever from a
millisecond spinning neutron star. The pulsations were observed when the pulsar
was surrounded by an accretion disk and originated inside the magnetosphere or
within a few hundreds of kilometres from it. Energy arguments rule out
reprocessing of accretion-powered X-ray emission and argue against a process
related to accretion onto the pulsar polar caps; synchrotron emission of
electrons in a rotation-powered pulsar magnetosphere seems more likely.Comment: 32 pages, 7 figures. The first two authors contributed equally to
