Exact solution for the energy density inside a one-dimensional non-static cavity with an arbitrary initial field state
We study the exact solution for the energy density of a real massless scalar
field in a two-dimensional spacetime, inside a non-static cavity with an
arbitrary initial field state, taking into account the Neumann and Dirichlet
boundary conditions. This work generalizes the exact solution proposed by Cole
and Schieve in the context of the Dirichlet boundary condition and vacuum as
the initial state. We investigate diagonal states, examining the vacuum and
thermal field as particular cases. We also study non-diagonal initial field
states, taking as examples the coherent and Schrodinger cat states.Comment: 10 pages, 8 figure
Slow down of a globally neutral relativistic beam shearing the vacuum
The microphysics of relativistic collisionless sheared flows is investigated
in a configuration consisting of a globally neutral, relativistic beam
streaming through a hollow plasma/dielectric channel. We show through
multidimensional PIC simulations that this scenario excites the Mushroom
instability (MI), a transverse shear instability on the electron-scale, when
there is no overlap (no contact) between the beam and the walls of the
hollow plasma channel. The onset of the MI leads to the conversion of the
beam's kinetic energy into magnetic (and electric) field energy, effectively
slowing down a globally neutral body in the absence of contact. The
collisionless shear physics explored in this configuration may operate in
astrophysical environments, particularly in highly relativistic and supersonic
settings where macroscopic shear processes are stable
Characterization of the stochastic time evolution of short-term average intercore crosstalk in multicore fibers with multiple interfering cores
A theoretical model for the stochastic time evolution of the intercore crosstalk (ICXT) in homogeneous weakly-coupled multicore fibers (MCF) with multiple interfering cores is proposed and validated experimentally. The model relies on the introduction of non-stationary time varying random phase shifts at every center point between the phase matching points of the MCF where the di erence of the e ective refractive indexes of the core of the originating signal and the core su ering from ICXT is zero. Closed form-expressions for the autocovariance of the short-term average ICXT (STAXT) with stationary and non-stationary phase shift models in MCFs with multiple excited cores are derived and validated by comparison with experimental results. These expressions enable estimating the decorrelation time of the STAXT generated by multiple interfering cores from the decorrelation times of the STAXT generated by each pair of cores. The proposed model and the ICXT measurements taken continuously over more than 150 hours show that the decorrelation time of the STAXT generated by multiple interfering cores exceeds the one obtained for the pair of cores with shorter decorrelation time. The proposed model is increasingly important to simulate and design MCF-based systems where the ICXT dynamics must be properly accounted for to develop e cient ICXT-tolerant techniques.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
Optical doping and damage formation in AIN by Eu implantation
AlN films grown on sapphire were implanted with 300 keV Eu ions to fluences from 3×1014 to 1.4×1017 atoms/cm2 in two different geometries: “channeled” along the c-axis and “random” with a 10° angle between the ion beam and the surface normal. A detailed study of implantation damage accumulation is presented. Strong ion channeling effects are observed leading to significantly decreased damage levels for the channeled implantation within the entire fluence range. For random implantation, a buried amorphous layer is formed at the highest fluences. Red Eu-related photoluminescence at room temperature is observed in all samples with highest intensities for low damage samples (low fluence and channeled implantation) after annealing. Implantation damage, once formed, is shown to be stable up to very high temperatures.FCT - POCI/FIS/57550/2004FCT - PTDC/FIS/66262/2006FCT - PTDC/CTM/100756/200
