Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) towards conversion of carbon monoxide/syngas: A mini-review
Microbial conversion of carbon monoxide (CO)/syngas has been extensively investigated. The microbial conversion of CO/syngas offers numerous advantages over chemically catalyzed processes e.g. the specificity of the biocatalysts, the operation at ambient conditions and high conversion efficiencies. Bioelectrochemical systems (BESs) exploit the capacity of electrochemically active bacteria (EAB) to use insoluble electron acceptors or donors to produce electricity or added-value compounds. Electricity production from different organic sources in BESs has been broadly demonstrated, whereas electricity production from CO/syngas has been very little reported. Acetate oxidation by a consortium of carboxydotrophic and CO-tolerant EAB has been suggested to be the main pathway responsible for indirect electricity generation from CO/syngas. Although electricity production in BESs from several organic sources has been widely investigated, the interest on BESs research is currently moving to the production of added-value compounds by electro-fermentation (EF) processes. EF allows to modify redox balances by the use of electric circuits to fine tune metabolic pathways towards obtaining products with high economic value. Although EF has been widely studied, the potential of use CO-rich gas streams as substrate has been under explored. The Solar Twin Planet Search II. A Jupiter twin around a solar twin
Through our HARPS radial velocity survey for planets around solar twin stars,
we have identified a promising Jupiter twin candidate around the star HIP11915.
We characterize this Keplerian signal and investigate its potential origins in
stellar activity. Our analysis indicates that HIP11915 hosts a Jupiter-mass
planet with a 3800-day orbital period and low eccentricity. Although we cannot
definitively rule out an activity cycle interpretation, we find that a planet
interpretation is more likely based on a joint analysis of RV and activity
index data. The challenges of long-period radial velocity signals addressed in
this paper are critical for the ongoing discovery of Jupiter-like exoplanets.
If planetary in nature, the signal investigated here represents a very close
analog to the solar system in terms of both Sun-like host star and Jupiter-like

On the chromospheric activity of stars with planets
Context. Signatures of chromospheric activity enhancement have been found for
a dozen stars, pointing to a possible star-planet interaction. Nevertheless in
the coronal activity regime, there is no conclusive observational evidence for
such an interaction. Does star-planet interaction manifest itself only for a
few particular cases, without having a major effect on stars with planets in
general? Aims. We aim to add additional observational constraints to support or
reject the major effects of star-planet interactions in stellar activity, based
on CaII chromospheric emission flux. Methods. We performed a statistical
analysis of CaII emission flux of stars with planets, as well as a comparison
between CaII and X-ray emission fluxes, searching for dependencies on planetary
parameters. Results. In the present sample of stars with planets, there are no
significant correlations between chromospheric activity indicator log(R'HK) and
planetary parameters. Further, the distribution of the chromospheric activity
indicator for stars without planets is not distinguishable from the one with

NGC 2362: a Template for Early Stellar Evolution
We present UBVRI photometry for the young open cluster NGC 2362. From
analysis of the appropriate color-color and color-magnitude diagrams we derive
the fundamental parameters of the NGC 2362 cluster to be: age = 5 (+1-2) Myr,
distance = 1480 pc, E(B-V)=0.10 mag. The cluster age was independently
determined for both high mass (2.1 - 36Msun) and low mass (0.7 - 1.2Msun) stars
with excellent agreement between the ages derived using post-main sequence and
pre-main sequence evolutionary tracks for the high and low mass stars
respectively. Analysis of this cluster's color-magnitude diagram reveals a well
defined pre-main sequence (covering DeltaV ~ 9 magnitudes in V and extending
from early A stars to near the hydrogen burning limit) which makes this cluster
an ideal laboratory for pre-main sequence evolution studies.Comment: 9 pages, 3 figures, to be published in ApJ
Contraceptive Choices Pre and Post Pregnancy in Adolescence
STUDY OBJECTIVE: The main aim of this study is to evaluate the impact of adolescent pregnancy in the future contraceptive choices. A secondary aim is to verify whether these choices differ from those made after an abortion.
DESIGN: Retrospective study.
SETTING:Adolescent Unit of a tertiary care center.
PARTICIPANTS:212 pregnant teenagers.
INTERVENTIONS: Medical records review.
MAIN OUTCOME MEASURES:Intended pregnancy rate and contraceptive methods used before and after pregnancy. For contraceptive choices after pregnancy we considered: Group 1 - teenagers who continued their pregnancy to delivery (n = 106) and Group 2 - the same number of adolescents who chose to terminate their pregnancy.
RESULTS: The intended pregnancy rate was 14.2%. Prior to a pregnancy continued to delivery, the most widely used contraceptive method was the male condom (50.9%), followed by oral combined contraceptives (28.3%); 18.9% of adolescents were not using any contraceptive method. After pregnancy, contraceptive implant was chosen by 70.8% of subjects (P < .001) and the oral combined contraceptives remained the second most frequent option (17.9%, P = .058). Comparing these results with Group 2, we found that the outcome of the pregnancy was the main factor in the choices that were made. Thus, after a pregnancy continued to delivery, adolescents prefer the use of LARC [78.4% vs 40.5%, OR: 5,958 - 95% (2.914-12.181), P < .001)], especially contraceptive implants [70.8% vs 38.7%, OR: 4.371 - 95% (2.224-8.591), P < .001], to oral combined contraceptives [17.9% vs 57.5%, OR: 0.118 - 95% CI (0.054-0.258), P < .001].
CONCLUSION:Adolescent pregnancy and its outcome constitute a factor of change in future contraceptive choice
Neutrino magnetohydrodynamics
A new neutrino magnetohydrodynamics (NMHD) model is formulated, where the
effects of the charged weak current on the electron-ion magnetohydrodynamic
fluid are taken into account. The model incorporates in a systematic way the
role of the Fermi neutrino weak force in magnetized plasmas. A fast
neutrino-driven short wavelengths instability associated with the magnetosonic
wave is derived. Such an instability should play a central role in strongly
magnetized plasma as occurs in supernovae, where dense neutrino beams also
exist. In addition, in the case of nonlinear or high frequency waves, the
neutrino coupling is shown to be responsible for breaking the frozen-in
magnetic field lines condition even in infinite conductivity plasmas.
