Non-Hermitian robust edge states in one-dimension: Anomalous localization and eigenspace condensation at exceptional points
Capital to topological insulators, the bulk-boundary correspondence ties a
topological invariant computed from the bulk (extended) states with those at
the boundary, which are hence robust to disorder. Here we put forward an
ordering unique to non-Hermitian lattices, whereby a pristine system becomes
devoid of extended states, a property which turns out to be robust to disorder.
This is enabled by a peculiar type of non-Hermitian degeneracy where a
macroscopic fraction of the states coalesce at a single point with geometrical

Lorenz System Parameter Determination and Application to Break the Security of Two-channel Chaotic Cryptosystems
This paper describes how to determine the parameter values of the chaotic
Lorenz system used in a two-channel cryptosystem. The geometrical properties of
the Lorenz system are used firstly to reduce the parameter search space, then
the parameters are exactly determined, directly from the ciphertext, through
the minimization of the average jamming noise power created by the encryption

1RXS J180408.9-342058: an ultra compact X-ray binary candidate with a transient jet
We present a detailed NIR/optical/UV study of the transient low mass X-ray
binary 1RXS J180408.9-342058 performed during its 2015 outburst, aimed at
determining the nature of its companion star. We obtained three optical spectra
at the 2.1 m San Pedro Martir Observatory telescope (Mexico). We performed
optical and NIR photometric observations with both the REM telescope and the
New Technology Telescope (NTT) in La Silla. We obtained optical and UV
observations from the Swift archive. Finally, we performed optical polarimetry
of the source by using the EFOSC2 instrument mounted on the NTT. The optical
spectrum of the source is almost featureless since the hydrogen and He I
emissions lines, typically observed in LMXBs, are not detected. Similarly,
carbon and oxygen lines are neither observed. We marginally detect the He II
4686 AA emission line, suggesting the presence of helium in the accretion disc.
No significant optical polarisation level was observed. The lack of hydrogen
and He I emission lines in the spectrum implies that the companion is likely
not a main sequence star. Driven by the tentative detection of the He II 4686
AA emission line, we suggest that the system could harbour a helium white
dwarf. If this is the case, 1RXS J180408.9-342058 would be an ultra-compact
X-ray binary. By combining an estimate of the mass accretion rate together with
evolutionary tracks for a He white dwarf, we obtain a tentative orbital period
of ~ 40 min. On the other hand, we also built the NIR-optical-UV spectral
energy distribution (SED) of the source at two different epochs. One SED was
gathered when the source was in the soft X-ray state, and it is consistent with
the presence of a single thermal component. The second SED, obtained when the
source was in the hard X-ray state, shows a thermal component together with a

Watching television: a previously unrecognized powerful trigger of λ waves.
OBJECTIVE: To assess whether lambda waves are elicited by watching television (TV) and their association with demographical and EEG features.
METHODS: We retrospectively compared lambda wave occurrence in prolonged EEG monitorings of outpatients who were allowed to watch TV and in standard EEGs recorded in TV-free rooms. All EEGs were interpreted by the same two electroencephalographers.
RESULTS: Of 2,072 standard EEG reports, 36 (1.7 %) mentioned lambda waves versus 46 (32.2%) of 143 prolonged EEG monitoring reports (P < 0.001). Multivariable comparison of prolonged EEG monitorings and standard EEGs disclosed that recordings performed in rooms with a TV (odds ratio, 20.6; 95% confidence interval, 4.8-88.0) and normal EEGs (odds ratio, 3.03; 95% confidence interval, 1.5-6.25) were independently associated with lambda waves. In the prolonged EEG monitoring group, all recordings with lambda waves also had positive occipital sharp transients of sleep.
CONCLUSIONS: Watching TV likely represents a powerful and previously unrecognized stimulus for lambda waves. Furthermore, this study confirms the benign nature of this EEG variant and its strong association with positive occipital sharp transients of sleep
