D-term Uplifts in Non-Supersymmetric Heterotic String Models

Recently, we proposed that the one-loop tadpole diagram in perturbative non-supersymmetric heterotic string vacua that contain an anomalous U(1)U(1) symmetry, leads to an analog of the Fayet-Iliopoulos DD-term in N=1\mathcal{N}=1 supersymmetric models, and may uplift the vacuum energy from negative to positive value. In this paper, we extend this analysis to new types of vacua, including those with Stringy Scherk-Schwarz (SSS) spontaneous supersymmetry breaking versus those with explicit breaking. We develop a criteria that facilitates the extraction of vacua with Scherk-Schwarz breaking. We develop systematic tools to analyse the T-duality property of some of the vacua and demonstrate them in several examples. The extraction of the anomalous U(1)U(1) DD-terms is obtained in two ways. The first utilises the calculation of the U(1)U(1)-charges from the partition function, whereas the second utilises the free fermionic classification methodology to classify large spaces of vacua and analyse the properties of the massless spectrum. The systematic classification method also ensures that the models are free from physical tachyons. We provide a systematic tool to relate the free fermionic basis vectors and one-loop Generalised GSO phases that define the string models, to the one-loop partition function in the orbifold representation. We argue that a DD-term uplift, while rare, is possible for both the SSS class of models, as well as in those with explicit breaking. We discuss the steps needed to further develop the arguments presented here.Comment: 38 pages, 15 figure

In this project, we proceed to develop the procedure that takes power to validate the business idea named PetiChay, which focuses on an application that allows real-time listing, location and separation of appointments and veterinary consultations, through an interactive, simple and friendly platform. So, it serves to make the care process lighter and easier compared to those traditionally held. Likewise, this business model is aimed at men and women from socioeconomic sectors of level A and B, who need and are in a position to opt for a service that provides facilities for safe and fast veterinary care. This is why, in the course of the research carried out, various sources, interviews and experiments were used, which allowed us to learn about suggestions, constructive criticism and other aspects that provided us with information about what the target audience required. In addition, some tools and their elements were made and validated, as in the case of the Value Proposition Canvas and the Business Model Canvas, which served as support to collect valuable results, generate improvements through feedback and motivate us by perceiving the good reception of the idea by having comments from the public, mostly favorable. Finally, the financial plan of the project was carried out with a scope of 5 years, also using some financial indicators as support to project and thus verify the viability of the business idea, which in this case was positive.Trabajo de investigació

Aims: The safety and efficacy of the novel selective cardiac myosin activator, omecamtiv mecarbil, in patients with heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) is tested in the Global Approach to Lowering Adverse Cardiac outcomes Through Improving Contractility in Heart Failure (GALACTIC‐HF) trial. Here we describe the baseline characteristics of participants in GALACTIC‐HF and how these compare with other contemporary trials. Methods and Results: Adults with established HFrEF, New York Heart Association functional class (NYHA) ≥ II, EF ≤35%, elevated natriuretic peptides and either current hospitalization for HF or history of hospitalization/ emergency department visit for HF within a year were randomized to either placebo or omecamtiv mecarbil (pharmacokinetic‐guided dosing: 25, 37.5 or 50 mg bid). 8256 patients [male (79%), non‐white (22%), mean age 65 years] were enrolled with a mean EF 27%, ischemic etiology in 54%, NYHA II 53% and III/IV 47%, and median NT‐proBNP 1971 pg/mL. HF therapies at baseline were among the most effectively employed in contemporary HF trials. GALACTIC‐HF randomized patients representative of recent HF registries and trials with substantial numbers of patients also having characteristics understudied in previous trials including more from North America (n = 1386), enrolled as inpatients (n = 2084), systolic blood pressure < 100 mmHg (n = 1127), estimated glomerular filtration rate < 30 mL/min/1.73 m2 (n = 528), and treated with sacubitril‐valsartan at baseline (n = 1594). Conclusions: GALACTIC‐HF enrolled a well‐treated, high‐risk population from both inpatient and outpatient settings, which will provide a definitive evaluation of the efficacy and safety of this novel therapy, as well as informing its potential future implementation

Evaluation of appendicitis risk prediction models in adults with suspected appendicitis

Background Appendicitis is the most common general surgical emergency worldwide, but its diagnosis remains challenging. The aim of this study was to determine whether existing risk prediction models can reliably identify patients presenting to hospital in the UK with acute right iliac fossa (RIF) pain who are at low risk of appendicitis. Methods A systematic search was completed to identify all existing appendicitis risk prediction models. Models were validated using UK data from an international prospective cohort study that captured consecutive patients aged 16–45 years presenting to hospital with acute RIF in March to June 2017. The main outcome was best achievable model specificity (proportion of patients who did not have appendicitis correctly classified as low risk) whilst maintaining a failure rate below 5 per cent (proportion of patients identified as low risk who actually had appendicitis). Results Some 5345 patients across 154 UK hospitals were identified, of which two‐thirds (3613 of 5345, 67·6 per cent) were women. Women were more than twice as likely to undergo surgery with removal of a histologically normal appendix (272 of 964, 28·2 per cent) than men (120 of 993, 12·1 per cent) (relative risk 2·33, 95 per cent c.i. 1·92 to 2·84; P < 0·001). Of 15 validated risk prediction models, the Adult Appendicitis Score performed best (cut‐off score 8 or less, specificity 63·1 per cent, failure rate 3·7 per cent). The Appendicitis Inflammatory Response Score performed best for men (cut‐off score 2 or less, specificity 24·7 per cent, failure rate 2·4 per cent). Conclusion Women in the UK had a disproportionate risk of admission without surgical intervention and had high rates of normal appendicectomy. Risk prediction models to support shared decision‐making by identifying adults in the UK at low risk of appendicitis were identified

Cosmological models mimicking the standard LambdaCDM background evolution

Stability is an important concern for vehicles which move heavy loads, accelerate or brake aggressively, turn at speed, or operate on sloped terrain. In many cases, vehicles face more than one of these challenges simultaneously. Some are obliged to execute these maneuvers when their high centers of gravity leave them particularly vulnerable to tipover or rollover. A methodology is presented to estimate proximity to tipover for autonomous field robots that must be productive, effective, and self-reliant under such challenging circumstances. While the physical principles governing the computation of stability margin have been known for some time, the realization of these principles in practice raises issues which are at once similar to those of attitude estimation while contrasting heavily with inertial guidance. The problem of stability margin estimation is posed in the fairly general case of accelerated articulating motion over roug
