XI.ABSTRACT: This study corresponds to an evaluation of the natural and cultural attractions of
Alicahue location, Cabildo County, V Region and is the paper presented to obtain the
Ecotourism Administrator Title (Título de Administrador en Ecoturismo).
Alicahue, the location subject of this study, is a country site situated in a narrow
mountain valley and is in a precarious state, which in fact corresponds to what is
happening in several country sites in Chile. The natural and cultural heritage is being
lost because national policies are allowing mining and single farming exploitations to
perform at will. Their thinly sustainable processes are destroying archeological remains
and numerous natural habitats and its related species.
This paper proposes a valuation of Alicahue's attractions, with the purpose of obtaining
economic resources for its maintenance in time to come. It is a simple but grounded
proposal, a tool that this location may use to promote tourism at its site.
To make this Project feasible, the following targets are proponed:
I. Identify the limits of Alicahue location.
11. Analyze the site: shape, climate, vegetation, animals, socio economic
characteristics, etc.
IlI. Identify present environmental threats at the site.
IV. Identify potential tourist and echo tourist attractions.
V. Elaborate a proposal that sets the values ofthe attractions presented.
With the purpose that tourist attractions proposed are not harrned by tourists, there are
specific recommendations for each one of them.
The outcome of theinvestigation resulted in numerous attractions, natural and cultural,
to enhance the present tourist offer and allow its preservation in time
La peculiar fenomenología de Jorge Eduardo Rivera
This article examines the phenomenology developed by the Chilean philosopher Jorge Eduardo Rivera (1927-2017). First, some general characteristics of Rivera’s philosophy are highlighted. Then, the Heideggerian proposal of a hermeneutical turn of the Husserlian phenomenology formulated by Rivera is judged, focusing especially on the interpretation offered by Husserl and on other possibilities offered by the phenomenology. Thirdly, the university conception of Rivera’s philosophy is shown, and his identification of the dangers that lie in wait for universities, then suggesting other forms of university threats and other phenomenological alternatives to conceive the current university.
This paper aims to show the joints, singularities and resemblances of legal judgments in respect to other kinds of judgment. It explores the nature of judgment itself widely to suggest some outcomes to the legal methodology and its university institutionalisation.
Country-level gender inequality is associated with structural differences in the brains of women and men
Significance Gender inequality is associated with worse mental health and academic achievement in women. Using a dataset of 7,876 MRI scans from healthy adults living in 29 different countries, we here show that gender inequality is associated with differences between the brains of men and women: cortical thickness of the right hemisphere, especially in limbic regions such as the right caudal anterior cingulate and right medial orbitofrontal, as well as the left lateral occipital, present thinner cortices in women compared to men only in gender-unequal countries. These results suggest a potential neural mechanism underlying the worse outcome of women in gender-unequal settings, as well as highlight the role of the environment in the brain differences between women and men. Abstract Gender inequality across the world has been associated with a higher risk to mental health problems and lower academic achievement in women compared to men. We also know that the brain is shaped by nurturing and adverse socio-environmental experiences. Therefore, unequal exposure to harsher conditions for women compared to men in gender-unequal countries might be reflected in differences in their brain structure, and this could be the neural mechanism partly explaining women’s worse outcomes in gender-unequal countries. We examined this through a random-effects meta-analysis on cortical thickness and surface area differences between adult healthy men and women, including a meta-regression in which country-level gender inequality acted as an explanatory variable for the observed differences. A total of 139 samples from 29 different countries, totaling 7,876 MRI scans, were included. Thickness of the right hemisphere, and particularly the right caudal anterior cingulate, right medial orbitofrontal, and left lateral occipital cortex, presented no differences or even thicker regional cortices in women compared to men in gender-equal countries, reversing to thinner cortices in countries with greater gender inequality. These results point to the potentially hazardous effect of gender inequality on women’s brains and provide initial evidence for neuroscience-informed policies for gender equality
Pulmonary Thrombosis or Embolism in a Large Cohort of Hospitalized Patients With Covid-19
Objective: We set out to analyze the incidence and predictive factors of pulmonary embolism (PE) in hospitalized patients with Covid-19. Methods: We prospectively collected data from all consecutive patients with laboratory-confirmed Covid-19 admitted to the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, a university hospital in Barcelona, between March 9 and April 15, 2020. Patients with suspected PE, according to standardized guidelines, underwent CT pulmonary angiography (CTPA). Results: A total of 1,275 patients with Covid-19 were admitted to hospital. CTPA was performed on 76 inpatients, and a diagnosis of PE was made in 32 (2.6% [95%CI 1.7-3.5%]). Patients with PE were older, and they exhibited lower PaO:FiO ratios and higher levels of D-dimer and C-reactive protein (CRP). They more often required admission to ICU and mechanical ventilation, and they often had longer hospital stays, although in-hospital mortality was no greater than in patients without PE. High CRP and D-dimer levels at admission (≥150 mg/L and ≥1,000 ng/ml, respectively) and a peak D-dimer ≥6,000 ng/ml during hospital stay were independent factors associated with PE. Prophylactic low molecular weight heparin did not appear to prevent PE. Increased CRP levels correlated with increased D-dimer levels and both correlated with a lower PaO:FiO. Conclusions: The 2.6% incidence of PE in Covid-19 hospitalized patients is clearly high. Higher doses of thromboprophylaxis may be required to prevent PE, particularly in patients at increased risk, such as those with high levels of CRP and D-dimer at admission. These findings should be validated in future studies
