    Get PDF
Background. Dermatology residency programs are relatively diverse in their resident selection process. The authors investigated the importance of 25 dermatology residency selection criteria focusing on differences in program directors' (PDs') perception based on specific program demographics. Methods. This cross-sectional nationwide observational survey utilized a 41-item questionnaire that was developed by literature search, brainstorming sessions, and online expert reviews. The data were analyzed utilizing the reliability test, two-step clustering, and K-means methods as well as other methods. The main purpose of this study was to investigate the differences in PDs' perception regarding the importance of the selection criteria based on program demographics. Results. Ninety-five out of 114 PDs (83.3%) responded to the survey. The top five criteria for dermatology residency selection were interview, letters of recommendation, United States Medical Licensing Examination Step I scores, medical school transcripts, and clinical rotations. The following criteria were preferentially ranked based on different program characteristics: "advanced degrees," "interest in academics," "reputation of undergraduate and medical school," "prior unsuccessful attempts to match," and "number of publications." Conclusions. Our survey provides up-to-date factual data on dermatology PDs' perception in this regard. Dermatology residency programs may find the reported data useful in further optimizing their residency selection process

The use of computationally intensive systems that employ machine learning algorithms is increasingly common in the field of finance. New state of the art deep learning architectures for time series forecasting are being developed each year making them more accurate than ever. This study evaluates the predictive power of the N-BEATS deep learning architecture trained on Bitcoin daily, hourly, and up-to-the-minute data in comparison with other popular time series forecasting methods such as LSTM and ARIMA. Prediction errors are measured with Mean Average Percentage Error (MAPE), and Root Mean Squared Error (RMSE). The results suggest that the developed N-BEATS model has promising predictive power compared to LSTM and ARIMA models

Enhancement of Latent Fingerprint Recognition Using Global Transform

    Get PDF
Latent Fingerprints plays a vital role in identifying thefts, crime etc. Latent fingerprints are of 3 types. Noise in the Latent Fingerprints is removed by smoothing. Manual marking in Latent Fingerprint is slow and also latent examiner may make mistake while marking. The minutiae in the same latent marked by different latent examiners or even by the same examiner (but at different times) may not be the same. To overcome this issue new Orientation field estimation algorithm is introduced. It based on latent fingerprint feature extraction and edge detection. Orientation field estimation algorithm has dictionary construction stage. Dictionary Construction has 2 Stages. i) Offline stage ii) online stage. Orientation field estimation algorithm is applied for Overlapped fingerprint. Hough transform is used for detecting edges. It is shown that this method is slower to recognize latent fingerprint feature extraction and edge linking. In order to further increase the speed and perfect edge linking Hough transform method can be modified for better performance. Global transform is used for perfect edge linking and get the full fingerprint structure and comparison is made between two transforms to show which transform is better. While postpartum depression (PPD) has historically been associated primarily with mothers, recently there has been increased awareness of the experience of fathers and strategies to address postpartum depression in men. For fathers willing to seek help, the lack of recognition of paternal PPD results in limited supports and treatments. Given the potential implications of paternal PPD, it is essential for new fathers and their healthcare providers to recognize the prevalence of paternal PPD, the symptoms, and the challenges surrounding this issue for men. Radiative transfer in highly scattering materials - numerical solution and evaluation of approximate analytic solutions

    Get PDF
Numerical solutions for radiative transport in a class of anisotropically scattering materials are presented. Conditions for convergence and divergence of the iterative method are given and supported by computed results. The relation of two flux theories to the equation of radiative transfer for isotropic scattering is discussed. The adequacy of the two flux approach for the reflectance, radiative flux and radiative flux divergence of highly scattering media is evaluated with respect to solutions of the radiative transfer equation

The main idea of this article is the justification of the necessity and the creation of conditions for attracting investments in economic entities of agrarian and agro-industrial production. The authors consider topical issues of increasing the investment attractiveness of industries and businesses in agro-industrial production of the subsidized region at the federal and regional levels. The authors note that ensuring the food security of the administrative district, the region and the country as a whole largely depends on the solution of this large-scale task. The forms, methods and mechanisms affecting the activation and inflow of investment and financial resources into agro-industrial production are exemplified by the subjects of the North Caucasus Federal District (in particular, the Chechen Republic). The subject of the study is the organizational-economic relations connected with increasing the investment attractiveness of the agrarian sector and agro-industrial production. The article gives authors’ definition of the economic category of the “investment attractiveness”. The results can be used by the government of agro-industrial production of subsidized subjects of Russia in the development and implementation of regional agricultural development programs and regulation of markets for agricultural products, raw materials and food, as well as social development of rural areas.peer-reviewe

Recommendations for Mental Health Reforms in Uzbekistan: A Policy Report

    Get PDF
Introduction: There are large differences in the development of mental health systems of the West and the countries of the former Eastern Bloc. The latter is characterized by a more biological approach to mental health and reliance on psychiatric hospitals. In 2018, Uzbekistan authorities showed interest in reforming mental health care of the country. The policy report provides an overview of progress towards the provision of community mental health (CMH) care across Eastern Europe and recommendations for this transition within Uzbekistan. Methods: A literature search on mental health care in Uzbekistan was conducted to understand its strengths and weaknesses. Progress towards the provision of CMH care across Eastern Europe was assessed using data on the number of psychiatric beds and availability of mental health services in community settings reported within the published literature. Countries identified as making the greatest progress towards CMH care were reviewed in detail to better understand the process of reform assets and barriers. Results: Mental health care in Uzbekistan is highly institutionalized, underfunded and understaffed. Social care services are poorly developed. However, current leadership has kindled the promise of mental health reform. Georgia, Lithuania and Poland have made the most progress in terms of CMH care availability. However, due to various obstacles such as dual financial burden, high stigma and lack of political will, their programs lack social integration and/or uniform availability and underfunding along with scarcity of mental health specialists are common. On the other hand, research and evaluation, involvement of service users into service planning and cooperation with donors facilitated reform implementation. Conclusion: Uzbekistan may develop into a modern mental health system and avoid the setbacks encountered by other countries in the region, through careful financial planning, stigma reduction, improving mental health literacy, human resources strategic development and civil society engagement
