This study analyzes heart rate, blood pressure, and immersion bradycardia behavior at 19th, 29th and 39th gestational weeks and at three months postpartum, at sitting rest, and in the orthostatic position on land and in the orthostatic position in water in pregnant women trained in water aerobics. Significant differences were found in HR during the gestational period in the different positions. When results on land were compared to those in water, HR showed higher values on land in all gestational weeks and postpartum period, systolic BP was higher on land in 19th, 39th gestational weeks and postpartum period and diastolic BP was higher on land in 39th gestational week and postpartum period. These results suggest that throughout gestation in resting situation immersion bradycardia showed a progressive rise and BP didn’t change; however, HR and BP showed reduced values in water during gestation and postpartum period

Effects of Hydrostatic Weight on Heart Rate During Water Immersion

The aim of this study was to analyze the influence of hydrostatic weight on the changes in heart rate (HR) observed during water immersion (WI). Ten men underwent the following situations: HRR---recumbent position, outside the water; HRS---standing position, outside the water; HRU---standing position, immersed up to the umbilical scar region; HRUW---standing position, immersed up to the umbilical scar region with the addition of weight to equal force weight reached in the situation standing outside the water, and HREND---standing position outside the water again. The HR was measured at the final 15 seconds of each experimental situation. ANOVA for repeated measures with posthoc Tukey tests were used. No statistically significant differences were found between HRU (60.6 ± 7.7 bpm) and HRUW (64.9 ± 7.7 bpm); however, in the comparison of these two situations with situation HRS (75.7 ± 7.7 bpm), situation HRU presented a significant difference, while situation HRUW did not produce a significant bradycardia. The decrease in hydrostatic weight, during WI, does not influence the behavior of HR

The aim of the present study was to analyze the dynamic balance in experienced and beginners practitioners of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) and control group. The sample was composed by 34 participants with ages ranging between 20 and 42 years old, divided into three groups: 10 experienced BJJ practitioners, 12 beginners BJJ practitioners and 12 non-practitioners of BJJ that composed the control group. The task of the protocol consisted on the search for balance over a stabilometer, aiming at keeping the platform as close as possible of the horizontal position during each attempt. The results show significant differences among the groups [F(2.31) = 30,24; p < 0.001]. The post-hoc test revealed differences among the experienced BJJ group (46 ± 14 s) and the other groups (Beginners BJJ: 25 ± 6 s, p < 0.001; Control group: 19 ± 4 s, p < 0.001). However, no significant differences were found between control and beginners BJJ groups (p = 0.421). The results suggest that the time of BJJ practice may influence on the balance control performance

Cardiorespiratory Responses of Post-Menopausal Women to Different Water Exercises

The aim of the current study is to analyze and compare oxygen uptake (VO2) and heart rate (HR) in different water exercises. Eight postmenopausal women participated in a set of 4 sessions in water. Eight different exercises were randomly coupled for the 4 sessions. Each exercise was executed at a rate of 60 beats/min for 4 minutes with rest intervals of 30 min. A repeated-measures ANOVA and Bonferroni’s post hoc test were used to test for statistical differences at α \u3c .05. Significant differences were seen in HR and VO2 between some pairs of the 8 exercises. These results suggest that water-exercises classes should be prescribed based on percentages of maximal HR or VO2, not on a fixed cadence, because different exercises correspond to different percentages of maximal effort
