    From Linearity to Circulation. How TV Flow Is Changing in Networked Media Space

    This article discusses the evolution of the concept of flow from the producer-controlled phase to the user-controlled phase, thus proposing the concept of circulation as a new framework for understanding the new TV ecosystem. The multiplication of screens (from the traditional TV set to handheld mobile devices) has made TV content accessible anytime and anywhere and, furthermore, has provided an interactive space where the digital life of content is managed by the audiences on social media. Such multiplication of screens has created forms of TV consumption that lead to the deconstruction and subsequent reformulation of the concepts of space, time and medium. This article examines this ongoing process, beginning with observations of audience consumption practices that are analysed using Osservatorio Social TV 2015, an Italian research project

    This paper represents a first attempt to reconstruct a theoretical map of the relation between technology (digital media) and citizenship. We start from the reconstruction of the role of citizens in the smart city paradigm and then face the challenge that the so-called Big Techs move to the ideal of an engaged "smart community" by promoting an individual relationship between users/citizens and digital platforms. Finally, we present two emerging participation paradigms concerning Data Activism and Cooperativism, which seem to represent relevant fields for experiencing (and observing) the agency of a future, networked citizenship

    Hepatic bile formation: Canalicular osmolarity and paracellular and transcellular water flow

    The purpose of this minireview is to show that a new paradigm is developing regarding hepatic bile flow. The focus thus far has been on carrier-mediated transport of bile acids and other solutes, such as glutathione, which create an osmotic gradient for the transcellular and paracellular flow of water into canaliculi. In addition to the physicochemical properties of bile acids, which govern the osmotic gradient, data now exist showing that the tight junctions governing paracellular water flow and Aquaporin-8 water channels governing transcellular water flow are regulated independently. Thus, the rate of water flow into the canaliculus in response to bile acid transport is variable and determines canalicular bile acid concentration, which affects the production and solubilization of cholesterol-lecithin vesicles. These new considerations modify thinking regarding the occurrence of cholestasis and its progression and reorient the design of experimental studies that can distinguish the different determinants of bile flow. SIGNIFICANCE STATEMENT The paradigm that water flow into the canaliculus is determined only by the rate of carrier-mediated transport has been challenged recently by the changes that occur in hepatic bile composition in the Claudin-2 knockout mouse and with the cholestatic effect of estradiol 17b-D-glucuronide. Thus, a respective reduction in paracellular or transcellular canalicular water flow, probably via Aquaporin 8, has no significant effect on bile acid excretion.Fil: Marinelli, Raul Alberto.     Data of ureagenesis from ammonia, glutamine and alanine, and mitochondrial aquaporin-8 expression in thioacetamide-treated hepatocytes

    We present data about the synthesis of urea from different substrates, i.e., free ammonia, glutamine and alanine in primary cultured rat hepatocytes treated or untreated with the model hepatotoxic agent thioacetamide (TAA). We also provide data about the expression of mitochondrial aquaporin-8 (mtAQP8), a hepatocyte channel protein which facilitates ammonia diffusion into mitochondria to supply the urea cycle. Ammonia-derived ureagenesis was significantly inhibited by about 30% while that from the both amino acids resulted unaffected in TAA-treated hepatocytes. Protein expression of mtAQP8 was decreased by about 80% after TAA treatment.     Background and aim: Spinal Cord Injury without Radiographic Abnormality (SCIWORA) represents acute traumatic myelopathy in the absence of instrumental evidence of fractures and/or dislocations of the cervical vertebrae. Methods: In this article we present 4 cases of SCIWORA that came to our observation and the medico-legal implications associated with them. Results: In defining the compensation in the context of a private accident policy for traumatic pathologies of the spinal cord, an in-depth medical-legal assessment is essential, based on an accurate examination of the health documentation including the instrumental investigations performed, the anamnesis and an accurate evaluation of the trauma dynamic. The paraphysiological deterioration of organ-tissue structures, identifiable in the concept of "natural variability of biological risk", should be included in the same definition of insured risk by age group, with the consequence that physical conditions that fall within the physiological or paraphysiological definitions, although potentially contributing to injury, do not necessarily exclude compensation. A different concept dominates the variability of the compensation according to a paraphysiological pre-existing condition. The two arguments therefore call for thorough consideration of both the paraphysiological contributing causes of injury and/or impairment as necessarily subject to a preliminary study, which through the clinical and instrumental investigation method, will define the perimeter of functionality

    Assessing the sensitivity of leeches as indicators of water quality

    The objective of this work was assessing the sensitivity of leeches to several water quality attributes in lowlands streams.Weused occupancymodelling that account explicitly for detectability, to estimate the influence of four variables (dissolved oxygen, 5-days biochemicals oxygen demand, conductivity, and dissolved inorganic nitrogen) affecting nine species. We described the sensitivity as a change in the occupancy along the range of water quality attributes.We found at least one species of Helobdella in 81% of sites and Helobdella, as genus, was detected along the entire gradient of each attribute. However, differences in the sensitivitywere observed between species. For example, if we analyse the sensitivity of the genus Helobdella to dissolved oxygen, we can say that it is very tolerant. However, if we analyse the response to dissolved oxygen of each one of the species of Helobdella,wewill realize that H. michaelseni, and H. simplex showed a high occupancy at high levels of dissolved oxygen; while H. hyalina and H. triserialis lineata showed high occupancy at low levels. Describe the sensitivity of the species in terms of occupancy, offers a new methodology to understand how the species behave along a stressor gradient.Instituto de Limnología "Dr. Raúl A.
