This article discusses how the author describes Sawsan's body and clothing and whether Sawsan is controlled by a system of hegemonic masculinity and male gaze. This study uses descriptive-analytical method to get a detailed description or description of the main character in Khaled Khalifa’s novel No Knives in the Kitchens of this City as the object of the study. The data in this study are all corpuses related to the main character collected by marking, rewriting, and grouping according to the research questions raised. All data collected ware analyzed qualitatively with relevant concepts and approaches. The study indicates that the main character, Sawsan, was a woman who opposes and even destroys the rules and customs of her family and is dubbed as irrepressible. In addition, this study also shows that Sawsan looked an independent and uncontrolled woman; though her body and clothing remain under control of a system that occupied her perception of herself as a woman. Based on the data analysis it can be concluded that Sawsan is dominated by male perceptions including hegemonic masculinity and man's gaze towards her body that influenced her psychological conditions such as being proud, confident, and insulted.

Smart meters connect smart grid electricity suppliers and users. Smart meters have become a research hotspot as smart grid applications like demand response, power theft prevention, power quality monitoring, peak valley time of use prices, and peer-to-peer (P2P) energy trading have grown. But, as the carriers of these functions, smart meters have technical problems such as limited computing resources, difficulty in upgrading, and high costs, which to some extent restrict the further development of smart grid applications. To address these issues, this study offers a container-based digital twin (CDT) approach for smart meters, which not only increases the user-facing computing resources of smart meters but also simplifies and lowers the overall cost and technical complexity of meter changes. In order to further validate the effectiveness of this method in real-time applications on the smart grid user side, this article tested and analyzed the communication performance of the digital twin system in three areas: remote application services, peer-to-peer transactions, and real-time user request services. The experimental results show that the CDT method proposed in this paper meets the basic requirements of smart grid user-side applications for real-time communication. The container is deployed in the cloud, and the average time required to complete 100 P2P communications using our smart meter structure is less than 2.4 seconds, while the average time required for existing smart meter structures to complete the same number of P2P communications is 208 seconds. Finally, applications, the future development direction of the digital twin method, and technology architecture are projected

    Get PDF
Purpose: The interpretation & correlation of the different laboratory parameters in positive dengue cases in order to evaluate that which laboratory test is more significant for diagnosis of Dengue. Methods: Prospective examination of samples (patients\u2019 serum) for dengue virus of different genotype by using multiplex anti-dengue IgM, IgG. We have done NS-1 test by (ICT) immunochromatographic devices, and complete blood picture (CBC) by Sysmex XP-100. Result: Detection of Viral RNA in 100 patients showed effects in the total of 73 (73.0%) samples. This graphical comparison shows the whole positive cases including dengue NS-I antigen, dengue serology (IgM & IgG), total 62 positive cases of NS-I are detected, 10 positive cases of dengue IgM and 9 positive cases of IgG detected, in which Complete Blood Test (CBC) shows remarkable reduction in Platelets (32 cases) and Leucopenia in (24 positive cases). Conclusion: In this research, it is concluded that the diagnosis of dengue cases is preliminary limited to initial stages i.e. CBC or sometimes dengue NS-I, as dengue IgM severity is more effective than that of Dengue NS-I & IgG. Many patients who had negative results in CBC and NS-1 testing, became positive when IgM and IgG serology testing has been done

Background: The study of ancient DNA enables the examination of genetic associations between past and present individuals and populations. The recovery and analysis of human DNA from degraded samples precisely has become a central research tool in various scientific fields’ ranges from ancient DNA to forensics and medical sciences. Methods: In the current study, remains of human bones are analyzed that dates back to 1000-1200 BC from different burial sites of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. Hypervariable region 1 (HVR1) as a genetic marker was selected. Multiple extractions, qubit assays quantification and cloning of PCR products were performed to get the sequences from the hypervariable region 1 of mtDNA. In this study, we also evaluate the possibility of extracting DNA from degraded human tissues (bones and teeth) such as remains buried in archaeological sites and remains of dead bodies buried for many decades. Results: Mitochondrial DNA HVR1 of 2000 years old degraded bone specimens were successfully determined by analyzing haplotype, defining polymorphisms in the hypervariable region 1. The prominent haplogroup found was eastern European R  (63%) that was also found in present day population by previous studies. Conclusion: The protocol developed in this study could be used for the extraction of DNA from old degraded and ancient bone samples. Keywords: Ancient DNA; Degraded samples; mtDNA; HVS1; Pakistan

Comparative immunocompetence and interspecies transmission of avian orthoavulavirus-1 in feral birds originating from rural and urban settings

Feral birds residing close to urban settings exhibit higher immunocompetence against environmental pathogens than their counterparts in rural areas. In this study, we comprehensively evaluated the immunocompetence of five specific feral bird species and investigated the potential for interspecies transmission and pathogenicity of Avian orthoavulavirus-1 (AOAV-1) originating from the Anseriformes order. The immunocompetence assessment involved administering the phytohemagglutinin (PHA) test to individual groups of birds from rural and urban settings, measuring patagium thickness at specific time intervals (12, 24, 36, 48, and 60 h) following the administration of 0.1 mL (1 mg/mL) of PHA. Urban birds displayed significantly enhanced mean swelling responses, particularly urban pigeons, which exhibited a significant difference in patagium thickness at all-time intervals except for 24 h (p = 0.000, p = 0.12). Similarly, rural and urban quails and crows showed substantial differences in patagium thickness at all-time intervals except for 12 h (p = 0.542, p = 0.29). For the assessment of interspecies transmission potential and pathogenicity, each feral bird group was separately housed with naive broiler birds (n = 10 each) and challenged with a velogenic strain of AOAV-1 isolate (Mallard-II/UVAS/Pak/2016) at a dose of 1 mL (10 EID /mL). Urban birds demonstrated higher resistance to the virus compared to their rural counterparts. These findings highlight the specific immunocompetence of feral bird species and their potential contributions to AOAV-1 transmission and pathogenicity. Continuous monitoring, surveillance, and strict implementation of biosafety and biosecurity measures are crucial for effectively controlling AOAV-1 spillover to the environment and wild bird populations in resource-limited settings, particularly Pakistan

    Get PDF
Background: In Pakistan, the prevalence of stunting among children under-five years has remained above WHO critical thresholds (≥30%) over the last two decades. Objective: We hypothesized that an unconditional cash transfer (UCT) combined with lipid-based nutrient supplement (LNS) and/or social and behavior change communication (SBCC) will prevent stunting among children 6-23 months of age.Design: This was a four-arm, community-based cluster randomized controlled trial conducted in the district of Rahim Yar Khan, Pakistan. A total of 1729 children (UCT n = 434); (UCT+SBCC n = 433); (UCT+LNS n = 430) and (UCT+LNS+SBCC n = 432) were enrolled at 6 months of age and measured monthly for 18 months until the age of 24 months. Results: At 24 months of age, children who received UCT+LNS (rate ratio [RR], 0.85 [95% CI 0.74, 0.97]; P = 0.015); and UCT+LNS+SBCC (RR, 0.86 [95% CI 0.77, 0.96]; P = 0.007) had significantly lower risk of being stunted as compared to the UCT arm. No significant difference was noted among children who received UCT+SBCC (RR, 1.03 [95% CI 0.91, 1.16]; P = 0.675) in the risk of being stunted as compared to the UCT arm. The pooled prevalence of stunting among children 6-23 months was 41.7%, 44.8%, 38.5% and 39.3% in UCT, UCT+SBCC, UCT+LNS and UCT+LNS+SBCC, respectively. In pairwise comparisons, a significant impact on stunting among children in UCT+LNS (P = 0.029) and UCT+LNS+SBCC (P = \u3c0.001) was noted as compared to UCT arm. Conclusions: UCT combined with LNS and UCT+LNS+SBCC were effective in reducing the prevalence of stunting among children aged 6-23 months in marginalized populations. UCT+SBCC was not effective in reducing the child stunting prevalence.Clinical trial registration number: ClinicalTrials.gov NCT03299218
