Health and fitness (H&F) industry has always highlighted product’s tangible variables over untouchable ones. Nowadays conspicuous market models are proving that these facets are increasingly required by international societies and contexts and are demonstrated to be incredibly useful. The applicability and usability of fitness resources (products, services or mixed solutions) depends upon a genuinely innovative approach to the definition of those hidden intangible variables. This literature analysis underline that also academic contributions focus more attention on ‘touchable’ variables, but it’s now the time for the ‘B side’. The introduced Fitness Applications ‘Punnett Square’ (FAPS) tool helps to better understand the ever-growing world of fitness industry resources. It is also direct applicable to all those sector professionals who operate in their daily-life facility routine, with the final goal to increase levels of assessment of H&F product and service knowledge, for what already own and for emergent choices or purchasing actions.

Gamma Hydroxybutyric Acid (GHB) for the Treatment of Alcohol Dependence: A Review

    Get PDF
Gamma-hydroxybutyric acid (GHB) is a short-chain fatty acid structurally similar to the inhibitory neurotransmitter γ-aminobutyric acid. Clinical trials have demonstrated that 50–100 mg/kg of GHB fractioned into three or six daily doses is able to suppress alcohol withdrawal symptoms and facilitates the maintenance of abstinence from alcohol. These studies have also shown that GHB craving episodes are a very limited phenomenon (about 10–15%). Thus, physicians with access should consider the clinical efficacy of GHB as a valid pharmacological tool for the treatment of alcohol addiction

This work is a comparative analysis of three films on Barcelona. The movies look like a portrait of the Catalan society of XXI Century and show the relationship among the idea of death and the city in the third millennium, through a code between the filmic language of fiction and documentary. Death appear as part of life, and has several meanings. Different definitions were detected by 'death': as an event and social and social and anthropological change, natural transformation of neighborhood, city, but also as opportunity to preserve the memory; or is social evil, violence and personal tragedy. The three filmmakers witness the ebb and death of an era in a city, in a Barcelona neighborhood to make way for the future. Art represents a possibility of urban survival. The work investigate relations among transformation, death and society in the three movies. The preservation and maintenance of memory is realized through the eyes of the camera too. The three artists focus their attention in Barcelona, its suburbs and especially in the central neighborhood of Raval, or Barrio Chino", in recent decades  of remodeling this part of the city. Their aesthetics could be compared to the one aesthetics of others Spanish artists of XX Century. Development concerning the passage of time in urban areas are interwoven with personal stories that define individual to society today and through chronic feature. Death is also a mutation of a social model of manners, which leaves room for the development of a different society: multi-ethnic and open.&nbsp

Metadoxine in the treatment of acute and chronic alcoholism: a review.

Alcohol abuse and alcoholism are responsible for a wide variety of medical problems. The pharmacotherapeutic aspect of alcoholism includes the use of drugs, with different actions and objectives. Among them, metadoxine seems to be of interest. Metadoxine is able to accelerate the elimination of alcohol from the blood and tissues, to help restore the functional structure of the liver and to relieve neuro-psychological disorders associated with alcohol intoxication. Metadoxine also seems to be safe; in more than 15 years of post-marketing surveillance only minor aspecific and reversible events were monitored in patients exposed to the treatment. In this review the preclinical and clinical results obtained using metadoxine in acute and chronic alcohol intoxication are reported

Evaluation of symptoms and palatability in healthy volunteers after ingestion of an iced dessert by using different flavours

    Get PDF
It is well-known that digestion has a pivotal role in maintaining a state of wellbeing. The influence of certain foods and some herbal drugs has been ascertained. Epidemiological data show that the Mediterranean diet, with a high consumption of fresh vegetables and fruit, mainly citrus, has a beneficial effect and plays a protective gastrointestinal role. Previously, we assessed the influence on the eventual occurrence of symptoms during digestion of an iced dessert containing a mixture of digestive plant extracts, citrus juices and liquors, showing that its ingestion supports and maintains a good digestive process. Taking into consideration that sensory properties of food may also influence digestion, we also evaluated the palatability of the product. In order to evaluate the effect of different tastes on the digestive processes, we performed a further similar evaluation with two new flavours. The ingestion of these iced desserts at the end of the meal does not cause significant gastrointestinal symptoms. Moreover, palatability median score shows a good appreciation of the products. Therefore, the combination of digestive herbs, citrus juice and liquors in different flavours gives rise to a product with a positive mix of good palatability, favourable acceptance and herbal constituents, able to support and maintain a good digestive condition. Gluten free diet adherence in coeliac disease. The role of psychological symptoms in bridging the intention–behaviour gap

    Get PDF
This study examined the potential role of psychological symptoms in limiting the translation of positive intention into strict gluten free diet (GFD) adherence in coeliac disease (CD) within a theory of planned behaviour (TPB) framework. It was hypothesised that participants with more symptomatic psychological profiles would exhibit poorer adherence, primarily in the context of positive intentions. Coeliac disease participants (N = 390) completed online measures of gluten free diet adherence, psychological symptoms, coping behaviour, and TPB items. Intention and behaviour were moderately correlated, confirming the existence of the intention–behaviour gap. Psychological symptoms accounted for additional variance over and above TPB variables in GFD adherence but not intention. Participants who failed to act on their positive intentions displayed more psychological symptoms and greater reliance on maladaptive coping strategies than those with consistent intention–behaviour relationships (p < .01). The heightened incidence of psychological symptoms in CD has a small but significant negative impact on the ability to translate positive intentions into strict adherence. Directions for future research including interventions to improve GFD adherence are discussed

yesObjectives. Coeliac disease (CD) is an autoimmune condition managed by a lifelong therapeutic gluten-free diet. Previous research suggests that the chronicity of CD, the limitations imposed by the gluten-free diet, and the risk of other associated diseases can have a negative impact on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and psychological well-being. The aim of this study was to explore the illness perceptions and self-efficacy beliefs of adults with CD in the United Kingdom and to report their subjective levels of HRQoL and psychological well-being. Design. The study employed a cross-sectional postal questionnaire design. Method. Participants (n= 288) were adults with CD recruited via Coeliac UK. Measures of well-being, HRQoL, self-efficacy, illness perceptions, and dietary self-management were analysed. Preliminary descriptive and univariate procedures were employed before bivariate tests of association or difference were carried out. Backward stepwise multiple regression analysis was used to investigate the predictive strength of variables on well-being, quality of life, and self-efficacy. Logistic regression was used to look at the influence of variables on adherence. Results. Results indicate that HRQoL and psychological well-being were comparable to those found in previous related studies. Participants with weak beliefs in the serious consequences of CD and poorer emotional reactions to the condition had a greater likelihood of having enhanced HRQoL, improved psychological well-being, and higher self-efficacy. Strong beliefs in personal control and a greater perceived understanding of CD were associated with greater self-efficacy. Conclusions. Perceived self-efficacy and illness perceptions could play a role in informing psychological interventions for individuals with CD
