In plain sight : an analysis of first-generation student academic success in a university administered dual enrollment program

In 2000, the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board adopted Closing the Gaps by 2015: The Texas Higher Education Plan, a blueprint to minimize educational gaps in Texas. This plan called for the expansion of early college intervention programs across the state. Since that time, a number of programs have been established that offer both college experience and the opportunity to earn college credit. Throughout the implementation of these programs, questions of rigor have persisted, as have uncertainties about how these programs might provide a true college experience. This is especially true for Texas’ underrepresented student populations. In light of these questions, a four-year university has developed a unique dual enrollment program that offers both the benefits and rigor of courses offered to on-campus first-year university students. Get Ready Today, a pseudonym, provides dual enrollment courses to students across the state. Through quantitative analysis of extant data, this dissertation sought to better understand the enrollment of first-generation students in Get Ready Today, examining if these students had significantly different academic outcomes as a result of participation in the program when compared to their non-first-generation peers. Secondly, this dissertation examined the Get Ready Today first-generation population in comparison to ix comparable control samples of first-generation students who both did and did not participate in other early college intervention programs. These control samples were developed through Propensity Score Matching. The results of the quantitative analysis were reviewed through a framework of Stanton-Salazar’s (2011) theories on student social capital development, and their impact on Tinto’s (1993) theories of student departure. The resulting findings have implications for the continued development and continuous improvement of early college intervention programs across the state.Educational Administratio

A dynamic Bayesian nonlinear mixed-effects model of HIV response incorporating medication adherence, drug resistance and covariates

HIV dynamic studies have contributed significantly to the understanding of HIV pathogenesis and antiviral treatment strategies for AIDS patients. Establishing the relationship of virologic responses with clinical factors and covariates during long-term antiretroviral (ARV) therapy is important to the development of effective treatments. Medication adherence is an important predictor of the effectiveness of ARV treatment, but an appropriate determinant of adherence rate based on medication event monitoring system (MEMS) data is critical to predict virologic outcomes. The primary objective of this paper is to investigate the effects of a number of summary determinants of MEMS adherence rates on virologic response measured repeatedly over time in HIV-infected patients. We developed a mechanism-based differential equation model with consideration of drug adherence, interacted by virus susceptibility to drug and baseline characteristics, to characterize the long-term virologic responses after initiation of therapy. This model fully integrates viral load, MEMS adherence, drug resistance and baseline covariates into the data analysis. Análisis fitoquímico preliminar de la Alocasia macrorrhiza en la formación de profesores de Química

This study investigates the incorporation of the Preliminary Phytochemical Analysis of Alocasia macrorrhiza in the ongoing formation of Chemistry professors at the National Pedagogical University (UPN). Using a CTSAapproach, new teaching strategies in Chemistry were introduced, involving its relationship with Biology. This dynamic and congruent connection enriched the science teacher education, promoting more effective teaching of concepts, theories, and procedures.Este estudio investiga la incorporación del Análisis Fitoquímico Preliminar de Alocasia macrorrhiza en la formación continua de profesores de Química de la Universidad Pedagógica Nacional (UPN). Dietary Factors Impact Developmental Trajectories in Young Autistic Children

Funding This research did not receive any specific grant from funding agencies in the public, commercial, or not-for-profit sectors.Purpose The purpose of this research was to investigate the impact of dietary factors on developmental trajectories in young autistic children. Methods A gluten-free and casein-free diets, as well as six types of food (meat and eggs, vegetables, uncooked vegetables, sweets, bread, and “white soft bread that never molds”) were investigated observationally for up to three years in 5,553 children 2 to 5 years of age via parent-report measures completed within a mobile application. Children had a parent-reported diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD); 78% were males; the majority of participants resided in the USA. Outcome was monitored on five orthogonal subscales: Language Comprehension, Expressive Language, Sociability, Sensory Awareness, and Health, assessed by the Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) (Rimland & Edelson, 1999) and Mental Synthesis Evaluation Checklist (MSEC) (Arnold & Vyshedskiy, 2022; Braverman et al., 2018). Results Consumption of fast-acting carbohydrates – sweets, bread, and “white soft bread that never molds” – was associated with a significant and a consistent Health subscale score decline. On the contrary, a gluten-free diet, as well as consumption of meat, eggs, and vegetables were associated with a significant and consistent improvement in the Language Comprehension score. Consumption of meat and eggs was also associated with a significant and consistent improvement in the Sensory Awareness score. Conclusion The results of this study demonstrate a strong correlation between a diet and developmental trajectories and suggest possible dietary interventions for young autistic children.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Diseño de un plan de marketing estratégico de un medio de transporte urbano motorizado artesanal para la localidad de Berisso, barrio Villa Argüello, provincia de Buenos Aires, Argentina

Para cumplir con estos objetivos se tuvo en cuenta en primera instancia, la investigación de mercados en lo relativo a la forma de recolección de la información, diseño y análisis de resultados; en segundo lugar, se abordó la marca y del producto; también se abordó los canales de distribución y estrategias de precios. El presente estudio se clasificó como descriptivo, exploratorio y explicativo, con enfoque mixto; se basó en fuentes secundarias provenientes de revisión documental y en fuentes primarias a quienes se aplicó encuesta y entrevistas. Se hizo un análisis de precios como resultado de lo expuesto se fija el valor de este servicio en: $160 pesos por viaje (equivalente en dólares fecha: 19/06/2022 valor USD/$120 en $6,66) para el pasajero; además brindándole una serie de beneficios cualitativos en función de la seguridad y rapidez. Para los mototaxistas el balance económico proyectado: (punto de equilibrio = 40 viajes por día), reflejando rentabilidad y pronta recuperación de la inversión. Los principales resultados de esta investigación demuestran la factibilidad y oportunidad para ingresar al segmento de mercado, hay interés por parte de la población de Berisso; lo cual llevó a plantear estrategias del marketing mix para comprenderlas y permitir posicionar el servicio y producto. En forma paralela se abre la oportunidad de convertirse la Mototaxi en un vehículo turístico, se aclara que el concepto de la franquicia se pondrá en marcha en una segunda etapa teniendo en cuenta: los objetivos de la empresa y se llevarán a cabo por los medios publicitarios la divulgación de la franquicia e igualmente su respectiva campaña de marketing. Este medio de transporte urbano motorizado artesanal resuelve el problema de llegar a las zonas de difícil acceso en la localidad de Berisso, mejorando la calidad de vida y digna de estas personas, llegando con seguridad y rapidez a su destino final: colegios, escuelas, mercado, hospitales, etc.; son muchos los beneficios, convirtiéndose en una alternativa como otro medio de transporte.Facultad de Ciencias Económica

Análisis y evolución de las finanzas públicas de la ciudad de Florencia, departamento del Caquetá. Una mirada desde la descentralización fiscal

41 páginasThis article presents an analysis of public expenditure from a decentralized perspective for the municipality of Florencia (Caquetá) during the period 2008 to 2016; it is based on the performance indicator, which includes the levels of administration in the country, with the objective of increasing the legitimacy and governability of the State and the management of current revenues. Regarding the evolution of income and expenditures that the municipality has had and the level of life of the inhabitants, the analysis of the finances of the municipality of Florence, the income from the General Participation System is involved in the largest source of funding followed by own resources, while the resources of the General System of Royalties publish a notorious decrease in the implementation of the New Royalty System, however, the municipality presents a marked dependence on the resources coming from the central level of the State, which implies a bad example of fiscal decentralization in terms of execution.Este artículo presenta un análisis del gasto público desde una perspectiva descentralizada para el municipio de Florencia (Caquetá) durante el periodo 2008 a 2016; se basa en el indicador de desempeño, el cual comprende los niveles de administración en el país teniendo por objetivo aumentar la legitimidad y gobernabilidad del Estado y el manejo de los ingresos corrientes. En cuanto a la evolución de ingresos y egresos que ha tenido el municipio y el nivel de vida de los habitantes, el análisis de las finanzas del municipio de Florencia mostró que los ingresos provenientes del Sistema General de Participaciones se constituyen en la mayor fuente de financiación seguido de recursos propios, mientras que los recursos del Sistema General de Regalías presentaron un notorio descenso por la implementación del nuevo Sistema General de Regalías, sin embargo, el municipio presenta una marcada dependencia de los recursos provenientes del nivel central del Estado, lo que implica un mal ejemplo de descentralización fiscal en materia de ejecución.Magíster en Gobierno y Políticas PúblicasMaestrí

Desenvolvimento de videogames e seu impacto na educação esportiva

The fundamental purpose of this articleis to present a bibliographical review carried out in different databases and repositories at national and international level that support the research “The influence of Nintendo Wii console in teaching drive and reverse field tennis techniques in school sports”, carried out at New San Luis Gonzaga School in Bogota for 3 months with 12 school children from 8 to 10 years old, who had no previous experience in tennis nor with active video games in this sport, in order to know if the Wii has positive or negative impact on the teaching of these technical foundation. The results obtained according to the International Tennis Number test in terms of effectiveness showed that the active video games Virtua Tennis 2009 and Wiisport had no influence on the teaching of the drive hit. However, for the two-handed backhand stroke there was an improvement in both effectiveness and overall construction of the technical gesture.El propósito fundamental de este artículo es presentar una revisión bibliográfica, efectuada en diferentes bases de datos y repositorios a nivel nacional e internacional, que sustente la investigación “La influencia de la consola Nintendo Wii en la enseñanza del drive y revés en tenis de campo en el deporte escolar”, llevada a cabo en el Colegio Nuevo San Luis Gonzaga de Bogotá, durante 3 meses, con 12 escolares de 8 a 10 años de edad que no tenían experiencia previa en tenis ni tampoco con video juegos activos relacionados con este deporte, con el fin de conocer si el Wii tiene incidencia positiva o negativa en la enseñanza de estos fundamentos técnicos. Los resultados obtenidos según la prueba International Tenis Number en términos de efectividad mostraron que los videojuegos activos Virtua Tenis 2009 y Wii sport no tuvieron influencia para la enseñanza del golpe de drive. Sin embargo, para el golpe de revés a dos manos hubo una mejoría tanto en efectividad como en construcción global del gesto técnicoO principal objetivo deste artigo é apresentar uma revisão bibliográfica, realizada em diferentes bancos dedados e repositórios em nível nacional e internacional, que apoie a pesquisa “A influência do console Nintendo Wii no ensino das técnicas drive e backhand no tênis de campo no esporte escolar ”, realizado no Colégio Nuevo San Luis Gonzaga, em Bogotá, durante 3 meses, com 12 crianças de 8 a 10 anos que não tinham experiência anterior em tênis ou videogame ativo relacionado a esse esporte, para saber se o Wii tem um impacto positivo ou negativo no ensino desses fundamentos técnicos. Os resultados obtidos de acordo com o teste International Tenis Number em termos de efetividade mostraram que os videogames ativos Virtua Tennis 2009 e Wii sport não tiveram influência no ensino do drive. Fokker-Planck type equations for a simple gas and for a semi-relativistic Brownian motion from a relativistic kinetic theory

A covariant Fokker-Planck type equation for a simple gas and an equation for the Brownian motion are derived from a relativistic kinetic theory based on the Boltzmann equation. For the simple gas the dynamic friction four-vector and the diffusion tensor are identified and written in terms of integrals which take into account the collision processes. In the case of Brownian motion, the Brownian particles are considered as non-relativistic whereas the background gas behaves as a relativistic gas. A general expression for the semi-relativistic viscous friction coefficient is obtained and the particular case of constant differential cross-section is analyzed for which the non-relativistic and ultra relativistic limiting cases are calculated.Comment: To appear in PR
