The “veiled experience” within an inhabited space (a place) generates the need to somehow settle and interrelate the actions and interferences of the unconscious processes I go through as a subject. A significant structure that rises to the surface of reason is created, and refers to a primitive construction of the causes of the unsaid or not-performed by language. By persisting in a constant resistance to being a non-reducible dimension, it is thus constituted as an (empty) place capable of yielding another representation. To know and experience the immediacy of the unconscious through graphic gestures provides a “non-cumulative system” that has the function of filtering all that is unimportant, synthesising and facilitating rapid execution of the drawing, to reinterpret or recognize again the expansion of graphic thinking and the spread of its physical boundaries

Trabajo de fin de Grado. Grado en Estudios Ingleses. Curso académico 2016-2017[EN]Homosexuality has always been marginalized and stigmatized by society. Precisely, from certain moments on, such as the election of the conservative president Ronald Reagan and the outbreak of AIDS during the 1980s, provoked a notorious exclusion of homosexuality from the American society due to the invigoration of more traditional and heterocentric values. Thus, Tony Kushner chooses these two historically significant moments in order to introduce four homosexual characters with diverse points of view, who live directly or indirectly with AIDS. In this sense, the author allows the reader to have a greater insight into the oppression exerted from a heterocentric society upon divergent social realities such as the gay community. In this paper, I will analyse Tony Kushner´s major play Angels in America: Millennium Approaches (1991) as an attempt to disrupt the stereotyped conception of homosexuality in order to create a new consideration of the homosexual identity aimed at normalization within society.

Transport of lignin and other lignocellulosic components through supported ionic liquid membranes

Wood can be considered as the main renewable raw material. Until now, the production of cellulose has been the main target of wood transformation. However, the other components, mainly hemicellulose and lignin, must be taken into account for sustainable implementation of bio-refineries. The transition from low to high value added applications, specifically for lignin, requires the development of new separation processes. Supported ionic liquid membranes can be a promising option to separate and purify lignocellulosic components. The extraction from the feed phase to the stripping phase in only one stage allows the compaction of the system, without high energy demand. The main objective of this work was the analysis of the potential of supported ionic liquid membranes for lignin extraction and purification. [BMIM]MeSO4, [EMIM]EtSO4 and CYPHOS 108 were the ionic liquids chosen to impregnate PVDF membranes. The obtained results demonstrated that lignin can be extracted, but the SILMs were not selective and further study is required to determine their stability and the transport mechanisms involved. This research has been financially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) through CTQ2014-56820-JIN Project, co-financed by FEDER funds

    Local duality for Banach spaces

    Get PDF
A local dual of a Banach space X is a subspace of the dual X* which can replace the whole dual space when dealing with finite dimensional subspaces. This notion arose as a development of the principle of local reflexivity, and it is very useful when a description of X* is not available. We give an exposition of the theory of local duality for Banach spaces, including the main properties, examples and applications, and comparing the notion of local dual with some other weaker properties of the subspaces of the dual of a Banach space. © 2014 Elsevier Ltd.Research partially supported by DGI (Spain), Grant MTM2010-20190

Persuasion through Facebook of the four main candidates in the general election of 2016 in Spain.Persuasion is a communicative process in which the agent obtains the adhesion of the receiver and influences him/her; this process is particularly relevant in political communication during electoral periods. The persuasive techniques used on Facebook by the candidates of the main political parties (PP, PSOE, Podemos and, Ciudadanos) during the campaign for the general elections of June 2016 in Spain were analyzed. The research reveals that, of all the persuasive techniques envisaged by Roiz (1994), the most employed ones, by candidates to the presidency of the Government in Spain, were topic repetition, support in the preexisting attitudes, the adequacy of the subjects to specific publics, and exploitation of the psychic contagio

Hydrogen peroxide obtained via direct synthesis as alternative raw material for ultrapurification process to produce electronic grade chemical

BACKGROUND: The catalytic direct synthesis of hydrogen peroxide is a highly interesting alternative process to avoid the current anthraquinone route because it implies significant sustainability improvements. Among all the peroxide applications, its use as an electronic chemical requires very low metallic content. The employment of direct synthesis peroxide as raw material for the ultrapurification process has not been investigated before, so its viability is still pending evaluation. RESULTS: Although the improvements of catalyst or reactor performance of the direct synthesis process were not defined as objectives of the work, a maximum peroxide concentration of 2.3% was obtained, which is a very good result considering the low pressure used. Some relationships between the measured metallic concentrations in the obtained chemical and the operating conditions have been very useful to identify the most important conditions (selection of appropriate quality chemicals and proper materials for the installation) to promote the production of hydrogen peroxide with low metallic content. The technical competitiveness of this alternative ultrapurification process was clearly demonstrated as the number of required membrane stages (from 1 to 6 depending on the product quality) is lower than that required by the traditional case. Besides, the process can be considered economically viable if the direct synthesis peroxide can be produced with a total cost below 36.5 $ m-3. CONCLUSION: Further investigation, specifically focused on holistic approaches, is still necessary in order to assess the total costs of hydrogen peroxide production by direct synthesis. This way, the current available information could be complemented and the competitiveness of this direct route to obtain hydrogen peroxide for electronic grade chemical production could be more clearly defined. This research has been financially supported by the Ministry of Science and Innovation of Spain (MICINN) through CTQ2010-16608 and ENE2010-14828 projects

ABSTRACT:We show that some counterexamples in the theory of tauberian operators can be realized as operators acting on C[0, 1]. Precisely, we show that the set t(C[0, 1]) of tauberian operators acting on C[0, 1] is not open, and that T?t(C[0, 1]) does not imply T** tauberian

Water recovery and reuse in the fractionation of protein hydrolysate by ultrafiltration and nanofiltration membranes

    Get PDF
The fractionation of a protein hydrolysate obtained from tuna processing by-products by means of a membrane cascade integrating ultrafiltration (UF) and nanofiltration (NF) membranes was proposed in order to separate and purify the protein fraction between 1 and 4 kDa, which is the most interesting for nutraceutical purposes. A simulation model, based on mass balances and empirical equations for describing permeate flux and rejection of protein fractions, was developed and complemented with a simple cost estimation model. The product purity (49.3 %) and the process yield (62.6 %) were independent of the total water consumption of the process, but high water consumptions were required to maintain the total protein content of the stream below upper bounds that assured the absence of membrane clogging. The implementation of a water recovery system, based on an additional tight NF stage, implied improvements in both environmental and economic aspects of the process

Preliminary techno-economic analysis of non-commercial ceramic and organosilica membranes for hydrogen peroxide ultrapurification

    Get PDF
Polymeric membrane cascades have demonstrated their technical and economic viability for hydrogen peroxide ultrapurification. Nevertheless, these membranes suffer from fast degradation under such oxidative conditions. Alternative membranes with higher chemical resistance could improve the ultrapurification process. Therefore, this work presents the preliminary techno-economic analysis of two non-commercial membranes (a ceramic one and a hybrid organosilica one). This analysis is complemented with further research regarding the competitiveness of these alternative membranes compared to polymeric ones. The results confirm the technical viability for both membranes, but the ceramic membrane is not appropriate when Na is considered as the limiting impurity (because it has too low rejection coefficient). The economic viability of the proposed ultrapurification processes is also probed, but not under competitive conditions, as the polyamide membrane appears to be the optimal choice. Nonetheless, improvements in the permeability of the hybrid membrane (an increase in the membrane permeability by a factor of 10) or the rejection performance of the ceramic membrane (an increase in the reflection coefficient above 0.85) could transform these non-commercial membranes into the most profitable alternative. This research has been financially supported by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (MINECO) through CTQ2014-56820-JIN Project, co-financed by FEDER funds.
