    Inferential Item-Fit Evaluation in Cognitive Diagnosis Modeling

    Research related to the fit evaluation at the item level involving cognitive diagnosis models (CDMs) has been scarce. According to the parsimony principle, balancing goodness of fit against model complexity is necessary. General CDMs require a larger sample size to be estimated reliably, and can lead to worse attribute classification accuracy than the appropriate reduced models when the sample size is small and the item quality is poor, which is typically the case in many empirical applications. The main purpose of this study was to systematically examine the statistical properties of four inferential item-fit statistics: S-X2, the likelihood ratio (LR) test, the Wald (W) test, and the Lagrange multiplier (LM) test. To evaluate the performance of the statistics, a comprehensive set of factors, namely, sample size, correlational structure, test length, item quality, and generating model, is systematically manipulated using Monte Carlo methods. Results show that the S-X2 statistic has unacceptable power. Type I error and power comparisons favor LR and W tests over the LM test. However, all the statistics are highly affected by the item quality. With a few exceptions, their performance is only acceptable when the item quality is high. In some cases, this effect can be ameliorated by an increase in sample size and test length. This implies that using the above statistics to assess item fit in practical settings when the item quality is low remains a challenge

    Validation of an interview for study the process of formation of elite judokas

    Con el objetivo de analizar el proceso de formación deportiva de los judokas españoles de élite, se diseñó una entrevista semiestructurada de 52 preguntas agrupadas en 6 dimensiones (entorno social, entorno deportivo, psicológica, técnico-táctica, condición física y otros aspectos). Se llevó a cabo un análisis cualitativo y cuantitativo mediante la valoración de 10 expertos. Se analizó la validez de contenido a través del coeficiente V de Aiken, estableciendo un intervalo de confianza del 99 %, y el coeficiente de variación. Para conocer la fiabilidad se pasó la entrevista a judokas de alto nivel en dos momentos distintos y se analizó la consistencia interna por el método del Alfa de Cronbach (0,915) y la fiabilidad test-retest utilizando el coeficiente de correlación intraclase resultando 0,843 (p<0,01). La entrevista reúne suficientes propiedades como para ser considerada una herramienta válida y fiable para estudiar y analizar el proceso de formación de los judokas de éliteIn order to analyze the process of sports training of the Spanish elite judokas , a semistructured interview of 52 questions grouped into 6 domains ( social, sporting environment , psychological , technical and tactical, physical condition and other aspects ) was designed. To know reliability the interview was given to senior judokas in two different moments , and internal consistency was analysed by the Cronbach's alpha method ( 0.915 ) and so test-retest reliability by using the intraclass correlation coefficient resulting 0.843 (p < 0.01 ) . The interview brings enough properties to be considered a valid and reliable tool to study and analyze the formation of elite judoka

    Transmission properties of a single metallic slit: From the subwavelength regime to the geometrical-optics limit

    In this work we explore the transmission properties of a single slit in a metallic screen. We analyze the dependence of these properties on both slit width and angle of incident radiation. We study in detail the crossover between the subwavelength regime and the geometrical-optics limit. In the subwavelength regime, resonant transmission linked to the excitation of waveguide resonances is analyzed. Linewidth of these resonances and their associated electric field intensities are controlled by just the width of the slit. More complex transmission spectra appear when the wavelength of light is comparable to the slit width. Rapid oscillations associated to the emergence of different propagating modes inside the slit are the main features appearing in this regime.Comment: Accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.

    An algorithm to obtain global solutions of the double confluent Heun equation

    A procedure is proposed to construct solutions of the double confluent Heun equation with a determinate behaviour at the singular points. The connection factors are expressed as quotients of Wronskians of the involved solutions. Asymptotic expansions are used in the computation of those Wronskians. The feasibility of the method is shown in an example, namely, the Schroedinger equation with a quasi-exactly-solvable potential

    Satisfacción de los internos de centros penitenciarios con el programa deportivo educativo de baloncesto desarrollado por la Fundación Real Madrid

    El deporte y la actividad física tienen, cada vez más, un papel muy importante en la vida de los centros penitenciarios, siendo usados, normalmente, con el fin de favorecer el proceso de reinserción de los reclusos. En este sentido, los objetivos de este trabajo fueron: analizar el grado de satisfacción de los internos de los centros penitenciarios con el programa deportivo educativo de baloncesto llevado a cabo por la Fundación Real Madrid, y destacar los resultados más relevantes de la aplicación del mismo. Con este n, se administró un cuestionario a 267 reclusos de un total de 21 centros penitenciarios de España. Entre los resultados más destacados, sobresale el hecho de que, en general, los encuestados estaban muy satisfechos con el programa deportivo educativo llevado a cabo. Además, los datos hallados manifestaron que la gran mayoría de los internos consideraban que habían aprendido mucho en relación con la actividad deportiva desarrollada (baloncesto) y con los valores educativos trabajados.

    A method for the determination of absolute kinetic rate constants is proposed using an unstationary film model. This methodology avoids the experimental determination of parameters like the enhancement factor or the Hatta number which are usually model-dependent. The mathematical model is general for gas-liquid systems with irreversible second order reactions. An optimization procedure based on artificial neural networks is used to estimate the initial guess of the parameters and the subsequent application of Gauss-Newton algorithm for the final nonlinear parameter estimation. The model is tested with the ozonation reaction of Acid Red 27, Acid Orange 7 and Acid Blue 129.     Atlas de las flotas de pesca españolas de aguas europeas atlánticas

    The European Commission has acknowledged the value of fleet-based management approaches since the 2001 Green Paper on the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP). In the 2009 Green Paper, this was again recognized as a key area of interest for future development of the CFP, in particular setting the technical basis for the recent Data Collection Framework (DCF), which specifies the standard for national fishery sampling programs within a pan-European context. These policy changes require deeper and up to date knowledge about European fleets and fisheries, thus encouraging Member States to undertake scientific projects in order to obtain appropriate fleet segmentations classifying their fishing activities within a hierarchical structure. The work presented in this book is the first comprehensive analysis of the Spanish fleets operating in Atlantic European waters, taking into account both European and national management requirements. This has been possible due to the availability of official logbooks, which provide the broadest perspective on the activity of Spanish fleets in the study area. The only exception to this is small scale fisheries, pursued mainly by vessels of less than 10 m of length and, therefore, not subject to the requirement of keeping logbooks. In order to match better European and Spanish fleet classifications, a new level (“Management Unit”) is proposed here, which is placed between “modalidad”, used in the Spanish regulations, and “métier”, as is defined by the recent DCF. Spanish national waters comprise four fishing grounds, two of which are in the European Atlantic. Nine Management Units have been identified in the Northern Spanish fishing ground: bottom otter trawl (OTB10), bottom pair trawl (PTB10), purse seine (PSN10), set long line (LLS10), set gillnet targeting hake (GNS11), set gillnet targeting anglerfish (GNS12), trolling (LTL11) and bait-boats (LHP11) targeting albacore, and hand line targeting mackerel (LHP12). Two Management Units have been identified in Southern Spanish waters: bottom otter trawl (OTB20) and purse seine (PSN20). In European waters outside Spain, six Management Units have been identified in non-Iberian waters: bottom otter trawl (OTB50), bottom pair trawl (PTB50), set long line (LLS50) and set gillnet (GNS50) by vessels of more than 100 GRT, and set long line (LLS60) and set gillnet (GNS60) by vessels of less than 100 GRT. Finally, one Management Unit using bottom otter trawl has been found to operate in Portuguese waters (OTB70). Unluckily, the analyses made on the logbooks of the Spanish fleet using drifting long line could not be used to categorize this fleet due to the geographical limitations of the logbooks available. After detailed analyses and categorization of the Management Units, the results obtained were used in an exercise to test the usefulness and feasibility of using logbook information to answer some DCF requirements. This revealed that logbooks are an essential tool to deal with bioeconomic challenges posed by the new CFP.Versión del edito

    Renal replacement therapy in Europe : A summary of the 2013 ERA-EDTA Registry Annual Report with a focus on diabetes mellitus

Published by Oxford University Press on behalf of ERA-EDTA.Background: This article provides a summary of the 2013 European Renal Association-European Dialysis and Transplant Association (ERA-EDTA) Registry Annual Report (available at http://www.era-edta-reg.org), with a focus on patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) as the cause of end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Methods: In 2015, the ERA-EDTA Registry received data on renal replacement therapy (RRT) for ESRD from 49 national or regional renal registries in 34 countries in Europe and bordering the Mediterranean Sea. Individual patient datawere provided by 31 registries, while 18 registries provided aggregated data. The total population covered by the participating registries comprised 650 million people. Results: In total, 72 933 patients started RRT for ESRD within the countries and regions reporting to the ERA-EDTA Registry, resulting in an overall incidence of 112 per million population (pmp). The overall prevalence on 31 December 2013was 738 pmp (n = 478 990). Patients with DM as the cause of ESRD comprised 24% of the incident RRT patients (26 pmp) and 17% of the prevalent RRT patients (122 pmp).Whencompared with the USA, the incidence of patients starting RRTpmpsecondary toDMin Europe was five times lower and the incidence of RRT due to other causes of ESRD was two times lower. Overall, 19 426 kidney transplants were performed (30 pmp). The 5-year adjusted survival for all RRT patients was 60.9% [95% confidence interval (CI) 60.5-61.3] and 50.6% (95% CI 49.9-51.2) for patients with DM as the cause of ESRD.publishersversionPeer reviewe
