Associations between reliable changes in depression and changes in BMI, total body fatness and visceral adiposity during a 12-month weight loss trial.
We investigated associations between changes in depression and body composition over a 12-month weight loss trial. Of the 298 adults (BMIâ>â27âm/kg2), 219 with complete depression and body composition data were included. A 10-item Center for Epidemiologic Studies Depression Scale measured depression; dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry measured body composition. Multinomial logistic regression predicted reliable changes in depression by BMI, body fat (BF) and visceral adiposity (VAT). Multiplicative interaction terms tested modification by sex and ethnicity. Participants with increases in body composition were less likely to experience improvements in depression (BMI: RRRâ=â0.79 (0.68-0.91), pâ<â0.01; BF: RRRâ=â0.97 (0.94 - 0.99), pâ=â0.01; VAT: RRRâ=â0.99 (0.98-1.00), pâ=â0.02), but not worsening of depression (BMI: RRRâ=â1.29 (0.96-1.73), pâ=â0.10; BF: RRRâ=â1.04 (0.99-1.09), pâ=â0.15; VAT: RRRâ=â1.01 (1.00-1.03), pâ=â0.18). Sex and ethnicity interaction terms were not significant. However, the relationship was only significant among females, among non-Latinos for BMI and BF, and among Latinos for VAT. Our study supports the association between depression and obesity and highlights the need for longitudinal studies investigating VAT and depression in diverse ethnic groups
Women's attitude towards prenatal screening for red blood cell antibodies, other than RhD
Background: Since July 1998 all Dutch women (± 200,000/y) are screened for red cell antibodies, other than anti-RhesusD (RhD) in the first trimester of pregnancy, to facilitate timely treatment of pregnancies at risk for hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN). Evidence for benefits, consequences and costs of screening for non-RhD antibodies is still under discussion. The screening program was evaluated in a nation-wide study. As a part of this evaluation study we investigated, according to the sixth criterium of Wilson and JĂŒngner, the acceptance by pregnant women of the screening program for non-RhD antibodies. Methods: Controlled longitudinal survey, including a prenatal and a postnatal measurement by structured questionnaires. Main outcome measures: information satisfaction, anxiety during the screening process (a.o. STAI state inventory and specific questionnaire modules), overall attitude on the screening program. Univariate analysis was followed by standard multivariate analysis to identify significant predictors of the outcome measures. Participants: 233 pregnant women, distributed over five groups, according to the screening result. Results: Satisfaction about the provided information was moderate in all groups. All screen- positive groups desired more supportive information. Anxiety increased in screen- positives during the screening process, but decreased to basic levels postnatally. Conversion of t11t13 CLA into c9t11 CLA in Caco-2 Cells and Inhibition by Sterculic Oil
Background : Conjugated linoleic acids (CLA), and principally c9t11 CLA, are suspected to have numerous preventive properties regarding non-infectious pathologies such as inflammatory diseases, atherosclerosis and several types of cancer. C9t11 CLA is produced in the rumen during biohydrogenation of linoleic acid, but can also be synthesized in mammalian tissues from trans-vaccenic acid (C18:1 t11) through the action of delta-9 desaturase (D9D). For several years, it is also known that c9t11 CLA can be synthesized from conjugated linolenic acids (CLnA), i.e. c9t11c13 CLnA and c9t11t13 CLnA. This study aimed at investigating to which extent and by which route c9t11 CLA can be produced from another isomer of CLA, the t11t13 CLA that is structurally very similar to c9t11t13 CLnA, in Caco-2 cells
The genetic epidemiology of joint shape and the development of osteoarthritis
Congruent, low-friction relative movement between the articulating elements of a synovial joint is an essential pre-requisite for sustained, efficient, function. Where disorders of joint formation or maintenance exist, mechanical overloading and osteoarthritis (OA) follow. The heritable component of OA accounts forâ~â50% of susceptible risk. Although almost 100 genetic risk loci for OA have now been identified, and the epidemiological relationship between joint development, joint shape and osteoarthritis is well established, we still have only a limited understanding of the contribution that genetic variation makes to joint shape and how this modulates OA risk. In this article, a brief overview of synovial joint development and its genetic regulation is followed by a review of current knowledge on the genetic epidemiology of established joint shape disorders and common shape variation. A summary of current genetic epidemiology of OA is also given, together with current evidence on the genetic overlap between shape variation and OA. Finally, the established genetic risk loci for both joint shape and osteoarthritis are discussed
Observation of Two New Excited Îb0 States Decaying to Îb0 K-Ï+
Two narrow resonant states are observed in the Îb0K-Ï+ mass spectrum using a data sample of proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV, collected by the LHCb experiment and corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb-1. The minimal quark content of the Îb0K-Ï+ system indicates that these are excited Îb0 baryons. The masses of the Îb(6327)0 and Îb(6333)0 states are m[Îb(6327)0]=6327.28-0.21+0.23±0.12±0.24 and m[Îb(6333)0]=6332.69-0.18+0.17±0.03±0.22 MeV, respectively, with a mass splitting of Îm=5.41-0.27+0.26±0.12 MeV, where the uncertainties are statistical, systematic, and due to the Îb0 mass measurement. The measured natural widths of these states are consistent with zero, with upper limits of Î[Îb(6327)0]<2.20(2.56) and Î[Îb(6333)0]<1.60(1.92) MeV at a 90% (95%) credibility level. The significance of the two-peak hypothesis is larger than nine (five) Gaussian standard deviations compared to the no-peak (one-peak) hypothesis. The masses, widths, and resonant structure of the new states are in good agreement with the expectations for a doublet of 1D Îb0 resonances
First observation of a doubly charged tetraquark and its neutral partner
A combined amplitude analysis is performed for the decays and , which are
related by isospin symmetry. The analysis is based on data collected by the
LHCb detector in proton-proton collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7, 8
and 13. The full data sample corresponds to an integrated
luminosity of 9. Two new resonant states with masses of
and widths of
are observed, which decay to and
respectively. The former state indicates the first observation of
a doubly charged open-charm tetraquark state with minimal quark content
, and the latter state is a neutral tetraquark composed of
quarks. Both states are found to have spin-parity ,
and their resonant parameters are consistent with each other, which suggests

Observation of a resonant structure near the threshold in the decay
An amplitude analysis of the decay is carried out to
study for the first time its intermediate resonant contributions, using
proton-proton collision data collected with the LHCb detector at centre-of-mass
energies of 7, 8 and 13 TeV. A near-threshold peaking structure, referred to as
, is observed in the invariant-mass spectrum with
significance greater than 12 standard deviations. The mass, width and the
quantum numbers of the structure are measured to be MeV,
MeV and , respectively, where the first
uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. The properties of the
new structure are consistent with recent theoretical predictions for a state
composed of quarks. Evidence for an additional structure is
found around 4140 MeV in the invariant mass, which might be

Test of lepton universality in decays
The first simultaneous test of muon-electron universality using
and decays is performed, in two ranges of the dilepton
invariant-mass squared, . The analysis uses beauty mesons produced in
proton-proton collisions collected with the LHCb detector between 2011 and
2018, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 9 . Each
of the four lepton universality measurements reported is either the first in
the given interval or supersedes previous LHCb measurements. The

Precision measurement of violation in the penguin-mediated decay
A flavor-tagged time-dependent angular analysis of the decay
is performed using collision data collected
by the LHCb experiment at % at TeV, the center-of-mass energy of
13 TeV, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 6 fb^{-1}. The
-violating phase and direct -violation parameter are measured
to be rad and
, respectively, assuming the same values
for all polarization states of the system. In these results, the
first uncertainties are statistical and the second systematic. These parameters
are also determined separately for each polarization state, showing no evidence
for polarization dependence. The results are combined with previous LHCb
measurements using collisions at center-of-mass energies of 7 and 8 TeV,
yielding rad and . This is the most precise study of time-dependent violation
in a penguin-dominated meson decay. The results are consistent with
