Consistent deformations method applied to a topological coupling of antisymmetric gauge fields in D=3
In this work we use the method of consistent deformations of the master
equation by Barnich and Henneaux in order to prove that an abelian topological
coupling between a zero and a two form fields in D=3 has no nonabelian
generalization. We conclude that a topologically massive model involving the
Kalb-Ramond two-form field does not admit a nonabelian generalization. The
introduction of a connection-type one form field keeps the previous result.Comment: 8 pages. To appear in Physics Letters
The algebra of adjacency patterns: Rees matrix semigroups with reversion
We establish a surprisingly close relationship between universal Horn classes
of directed graphs and varieties generated by so-called adjacency semigroups
which are Rees matrix semigroups over the trivial group with the unary
operation of reversion. In particular, the lattice of subvarieties of the
variety generated by adjacency semigroups that are regular unary semigroups is
essentially the same as the lattice of universal Horn classes of reflexive
directed graphs. A number of examples follow, including a limit variety of
regular unary semigroups and finite unary semigroups with NP-hard variety

A Supersymmetric Stueckelberg U(1) Extension of the MSSM
A Stueckelberg extension of the MSSM with only one abelian vector and one
chiral superfield as an alternative to an abelian extension with Higgs scalars
is presented. The bosonic sector contains a new gauge boson Z' which is a sharp
resonance, and a new CP-even scalar, which combines with the MSSM Higgs bosons
to produce three neutral CP-even massive states. The neutral fermionic sector
has two additional fermions which mix with the four MSSM neutralinos to produce
an extended 6x6 neutralino mass matrix. For the case when the LSP is composed
mostly of the Stueckelberg fermions, the LSP of the MSSM will be unstable,
which leads to exotic decays of sparticles with many leptons in final states.
Prospects for supersymmetry searches and for dark matter are discussed.Comment: 10 page
Thermal one- and two-graviton Green's functions in the temporal gauge
The thermal one- and two-graviton Green's function are computed using a
temporal gauge. In order to handle the extra poles which are present in the
propagator, we employ an ambiguity-free technique in the imaginary-time
formalism. For temperatures T high compared with the external momentum, we
obtain the leading T^4 as well as the subleading T^2 and log(T) contributions
to the graviton self-energy. The gauge fixing independence of the leading T^4
terms as well as the Ward identity relating the self-energy with the one-point
function are explicitly verified. We also verify the 't Hooft identities for
the subleading T^2 terms and show that the logarithmic part has the same
structure as the residue of the ultraviolet pole of the zero temperature
graviton self-energy. We explicitly compute the extra terms generated by the
prescription poles and verify that they do not change the behavior of the
leading and sub-leading contributions from the hard thermal loop region. We
discuss the modification of the solutions of the dispersion relations in the

Decoherence in trapped ions due to polarization of the residual background gas
We investigate the mechanism of damping and heating of trapped ions
associated with the polarization of the residual background gas induced by the
oscillating ions themselves. Reasoning by analogy with the physics of surface
electrons in liquid helium, we demonstrate that the decay of Rabi oscillations
observed in experiments on 9Be+ can be attributed to the polarization phenomena
investigated here. The measured sensitivity of the damping of Rabi oscillations
with respect to the vibrational quantum number of a trapped ion is also

Metal Surface Energy: Persistent Cancellation of Short-Range Correlation Effects beyond the Random-Phase Approximation
The role that non-local short-range correlation plays at metal surfaces is
investigated by analyzing the correlation surface energy into contributions
from dynamical density fluctuations of various two-dimensional wave vectors.
Although short-range correlation is known to yield considerable correction to
the ground-state energy of both uniform and non-uniform systems, short-range
correlation effects on intermediate and short-wavelength contributions to the
surface formation energy are found to compensate one another. As a result, our
calculated surface energies, which are based on a non-local
exchange-correlation kernel that provides accurate total energies of a uniform
electron gas, are found to be very close to those obtained in the random-phase
approximation and support the conclusion that the error introduced by the

Gauge and Scheme Dependence of Mixing Matrix Renormalization
We revisit the issue of mixing matrix renormalization in theories that
include Dirac or Majorana fermions. We show how a gauge-variant on-shell
renormalized mixing matrix can be related to a manifestly gauge-independent one
within a generalized scheme of renormalization. This
scheme-dependent relation is a consequence of the fact that in any scheme of
renormalization, the gauge-dependent part of the mixing-matrix counterterm is
ultra-violet safe and has a pure dispersive form. Employing the unitarity
properties of the theory, we can successfully utilize the afore-mentioned
scheme-dependent relation to preserve basic global or local symmetries of the
bare Lagrangian through the entire process of renormalization. As an immediate
application of our study, we derive the gauge-independent renormalization-group
equations of mixing matrices in a minimal extension of the Standard Model with

From Linear to Nonlinear Response in Spin Glasses: Importance of Mean-Field-Theory Predictions
Deviations from spin-glass linear response in a single crystal Cu:Mn 1.5 at %
are studied for a wide range of changes in magnetic field, . Three
quantities, the difference , the effective waiting time,
, and the difference are examined in our
analysis. Three regimes of spin-glass behavior are observed as
increases. Lines in the plane, corresponding to ``weak'' and
``strong'' violations of linear response under a change in magnetic field, are
shown to have the same functional form as the de Almeida-Thouless critical
line. Our results demonstrate the existence of a fundamental link between
static and dynamic properties of spin glasses, predicted by the mean-field

Schottky barrier heights at polar metal/semiconductor interfaces
Using a first-principle pseudopotential approach, we have investigated the
Schottky barrier heights of abrupt Al/Ge, Al/GaAs, Al/AlAs, and Al/ZnSe (100)
junctions, and their dependence on the semiconductor chemical composition and
surface termination. A model based on linear-response theory is developed,
which provides a simple, yet accurate description of the barrier-height
variations with the chemical composition of the semiconductor. The larger
barrier values found for the anion- than for the cation-terminated surfaces are
explained in terms of the screened charge of the polar semiconductor surface
and its image charge at the metal surface. Atomic scale computations show how
the classical image charge concept, valid for charges placed at large distances
from the metal, extends to distances shorter than the decay length of the

Phyllosticta citricarpa and sister species of global importance to Citrus.
Several Phyllosticta species are known as pathogens of Citrus spp., and are responsible for various disease symptoms including leaf and fruit spots. One of the most important species is P. citricarpa, which causes a foliar and fruit disease called citrus black spot. The Phyllosticta species occurring on citrus can most effectively be distinguished from P. citricarpa by means of multilocus DNA sequence data. Recent studies also demonstrated P. citricarpa to be heterothallic, and reported successful mating in the laboratory. Since the domestication of citrus, different clones of P. citricarpa have escaped Asia to other continents via trade routes, with obvious disease management consequences. This pathogen profile represents a comprehensive literature review of this pathogen and allied taxa associated with citrus, focusing on identification, distribution, genomics, epidemiology and disease management. This review also considers the knowledge emerging from seven genomes of Phyllosticta spp., demonstrating unknown aspects of these species, including their mating behaviour.TaxonomyPhyllosticta citricarpa (McAlpine) Aa, 1973.
