Fisher-Hartwig conjecture and the correlators in XY spin chain
We apply the theorems from the theory of Toeplitz determinants to calculate
the asymptotics of the correlators in the XY spin chain in the transverse
magnetic field. The asymptotics of the correlators for the XX spin chain in the
magnetic field are obtained.Comment: LaTex, 10 page
On the SO(N) symmetry of the chiral SU(N) Yang--Mills model
The posibility of quantizing the anomalous Yang--Mills model
preserving the symmetry under the orthogonal subgroup is indicated. The
corresponding Wess--Zumino action (1-cocycle) possesses the additional
symmetry and can be expressed in terms of chiral fields taking values in the
homogeneous space . The modified anomaly and the constraints
commutator (2-cocycle) are calculated.Comment: 9 pages, preprint PAR-LPTHE 92-48 (DECEMBER 1992), Late
Moderate deviation principle for ergodic Markov chain. Lipschitz summands
For , we propose the MDP analysis for family where
be a homogeneous ergodic Markov chain, ,
when the spectrum of operator is continuous. The vector-valued function
is not assumed to be bounded but the Lipschitz continuity of is
required. The main helpful tools in our approach are Poisson's equation and
Stochastic Exponential; the first enables to replace the original family by
with a martingale while the second to avoid the
direct Laplace transform analysis
Coupling between planes and chains in YBa2Cu3O7 : a possible solution for the order parameter controversy
We propose to explain the contradictory experimental evidence about the
symmetry of the order parameter in by taking into account
the coupling between planes and chains. This leads to an anticrossing of the
plane and chain band. We include an attractive pairing interaction within the
planes and a repulsive one between planes and chains, leading to opposite signs
for the order parameter on planes and chains, and to nodes of the gap because
of the anticrossing. Our model blends s-wave and d-wave features, and provides
a natural explanation for all the contradictory experimentsComment: 13 pages, revtex, 2 uucoded figure
A non trivial extension of the two-dimensional Ising model: the d-dimensional "molecular" model
A recently proposed molecular model is discussed as a non-trivial extension
of the Ising model. For d=2 the two models are shown to be equivalent, while
for d>2 the molecular model describes a peculiar second order transition from
an isotropic high temperature phase to a low-dimensional anisotropic low
temperature state. The general mean field analysis is compared with the results
achieved by a variational Migdal-Kadanoff real space renormalization group
method and by standard Monte Carlo sampling for d=3. By finite size scaling the
critical exponent has been found to be 0.44\pm 0.02 thus establishing that the
molecular model does not belong to the universality class of the Ising model
for d>2.Comment: 25 pages, 5 figure

Anisotropic structural and optical properties of a-plane (11-20) AlInN nearly-lattice-matched to GaN
We report epitaxial growth of a-plane (11-20) AlInN layers
nearly-lattice-matched to GaN. Unlike for c-plane oriented epilayers, a-plane
Al_{1-x}In_{x}N cannot be simultaneously lattice-matched to GaN in both
in-plane directions. We study the influence of temperature on indium
incorporation and obtain nearly-lattice-matched Al_{0.81}In_{0.19}N at a growth
temperature of 760^{o}C. We outline a procedure to check in-plane lattice
mismatch using high resolution x-ray diffraction, and evaluate the strain and
critical thickness. Polarization-resolved optical transmission measurements of
the Al_{0.81}In_{0.19}N epilayer reveal a difference in bandgap of ~140 meV
between (electric field) E_parallel_c [0001]-axis and E_perpendicular_c
conditions with room-temperature photoluminescence peaked at 3.38 eV strongly
polarized with E_parallel_c, in good agreement with strain-dependent
band-structure calculations
Mean-field Phase Diagram of Two-Dimensional Electrons with Disorder in a Weak Magnetic Field
We study two-dimensional interacting electrons in a weak perpendicular
magnetic field with the filling factor and in the presence of a
quenched disorder. In the framework of the Hartree-Fock approximation, we
obtain the mean-field phase diagram for the partially filled highest Landau
level. We find that the CDW state can exist if the Landau level broadening
does not exceed the critical value .
Our analysis of weak crystallization corrections to the mean-field results
shows that these corrections are of the order of and
therefore can be neglected
Critical properties of the double-frequency sine-Gordon model with applications
We study the properties of the double-frequency sine--Gordon model in the
vicinity of the Ising quantum phase transition displayed by this model. Using a
mapping onto a generalised lattice quantum Ashkin-Teller model, we obtain
critical and nearly-off-critical correlation functions of various operators. We
discuss applications of the double-sine-Gordon model to one-dimensional
physical systems, like spin chains in a staggered external field and
interacting electrons in a staggered potential.Comment: 51 pages, Latex fil
