    Karakter Indeks Pengembangan Gelatin Taut Silang dengan Sukrosa Teroksidasi dan Glutaraldehid

    Ikan merupakan salah satu sumber alternatif gelatin halal tetapi memiliki kualitas yang lebih rendah jika dibandingkan dengan gelatin babi. Taut silang dapat menjadi salah satu solusi untuk meningkatkan kualitasnya. Tujuan penelitian adalah mempelajari pengaruh bahan penaut silang terhadap karakter indeks pengembangan. Prosedur dimulai dengan ekstraksi gelatin dari sisik ikan bandeng dengan metode perendaman basa dan asam. Pembuatan gelatin taut silang dengan cara mencampurkan larutan gelatin ikan bandeng 5% sebanyak 50 ml dengan bahan penaut silang dengan konsentrasi bervariasi sebanyak 50 ml. Campuran kemudian diaduk hingga merata dan dikeringkan dalam oven pada suhu 70oC. Penelitian ini menggunakan bahan penaut silang, yaitu sukrosa teroksidasi dan glutaraldehid. Hasil gelatin taut silang diuji karakteristik indeks pengembangannya. Selain itu, juga digunakan sampel gelatin ikan komersial sebagai pembanding. Pembentukan taut silang ditandai dengan Perubahan konsistensi sampel dari larutan menjadi gel. Perubahan konsistensi paling signifikan terlihat pada gelatin taut silang dengan sukrosa teroksidasi dan glutaraldehid. Dari penelitian ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa peningkatan kadar bahan penaut silang menurunkan indeks pengembangan

    A graph of dark energy significance on different spatial and mass scales

    The current cosmological paradigm sees the formation and evolution of the cosmic large-scale structure as governed by the gravitational attraction of the Dark Matter (DM) and the repulsion of the Dark Energy (DE). We characterize the relative importance of uniform and constant dark energy, as given by the Lambda term in the standard LCDM cosmology, in galaxy systems of different scales, from groups to superclusters. An instructive "Lambda significance graph" is introduced where the matter-DE density ratio /rho_Lambda for different galaxy systems is plotted against the radius R. This presents gravitation and DE dominated regions and shows directly the zero velocity radius, the zero-gravity radius, and the Einstein-Straus radius for any fixed value of mass. Example galaxy groups and clusters from the local universe illustrate the use of the Lambda significance graph. These are generally located deep in the gravity-dominated region /rho_Lambda > 2, being virialized. Extended clusters and main bodies of superclusters can reach down near the border line between gravity-dominated and DE dominated regions /rho_Lambda = 2. The scale--mass relation from the standard 2-point correlation function intersects this balance line near the correlation lenght. The log /rho_Lambda vs. log R diagram is a useful and versatile way to characterize the dynamical state of systems of galaxies within the Lambda dominated expanding universe.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure

    The Presence of Visual Neglect after Thrombolytic Treatment in Patients with Right Hemisphere Stroke

    Visual neglect (VN) is a common consequence of right hemisphere (RH) stroke. The aims of this study were to explore the presence of VN after RH stroke in the patients with (T+) or without (T−) thrombolytic treatment, and to determine whether thrombolysis is a predictor of VN. The study group consisted of 77 RH infarct patients. VN was evaluated with six conventional subtests of the Behavioural Inattention Test (BIT). Stroke severity was assessed using the National Institute of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS). In the neuropsychological examination, 22% of all RH stroke patients had VN. VN was present in 15% of the patients in the T+ group and in 28% of the patients in the T− group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Despite that, patients in the T− group had a higher risk of VN than patients in the T+ group. Our results suggest that thrombolysis independently predicted absence of VN

    Evaluation of minimal fracture liaison service resource : costs and survival in secondary fracture prevention-a prospective one-year study in South-Finland

    Background Fracture liaison service (FLS) is a secondary prevention model for identification of patients at risk for fragility fractures. Aims This study was conducted to evaluate the number and costs of secondary prevention of low-energy fractures in the city of Kouvola in Finland. Methods Women aged >= 45 years and men >= 60 years treated in the emergency department with a low-energy fracture were identified. Laboratory testing, BMI, and DXA scans were performed. Fracture Risk Assessment Tool was used. The direct FLS costs were calculated. Survival was analyzed using univariate and multivariate analysis and the life-table method. Results 525 patients with 570 fractures were identified. The mean age of women was 73.8 years and of men 75.9 years. Most patients sustained wrist (31%), hip (21%) or proximal humerus (12%) fractures. 41.5% of the patients had osteoporosis according to DXA scans. 62% of patients used calcium and vitamin D daily and 38% started anti-osteoporotic medication. Protective factors for survival were: age <80 years, female sex, and S-25OHD concentration of 50-119 nmol/L. Excess mortality was highest among patients with a fracture of the femur. The total annual direct costs of FLS were 1.3% of the costs of all fractures. Discussion Many low-energy fracture types were associated with excess mortality. The use of anti-osteoporotic medication was not optimal. Conclusions FLS increased the catchment of low-energy fracture patients and was inexpensive. However, identification, evaluation and post-fracture assessment of patients should be expedited. Rehabilitation of hip fracture patients needs to be improved.Peer reviewe

    On the divergences of inflationary superhorizon perturbations

    We discuss the infrared divergences that appear to plague cosmological perturbation theory. We show that within the stochastic framework they are regulated by eternal inflation so that the theory predicts finite fluctuations. Using the ΔN\Delta N formalism to one loop, we demonstrate that the infrared modes can be absorbed into additive constants and the coefficients of the diagrammatic expansion for the connected parts of two and three-point functions of the curvature perturbation. As a result, the use of any infrared cutoff below the scale of eternal inflation is permitted, provided that the background fields are appropriately redefined. The natural choice for the infrared cutoff would of course be the present horizon; other choices manifest themselves in the running of the correlators. We also demonstrate that it is possible to define observables that are renormalization group invariant. As an example, we derive a non-perturbative, infrared finite and renormalization point independent relation between the two-point correlators of the curvature perturbation for the case of the free single field.Comment: 12 page

    Balancing profitability of energy production, societal impacts and biodiversity in offshore wind farm design

    The global demand for renewable energy is on the rise. Expansion of onshore wind energy is in many parts of the world limited by societal acceptance, and also ecological impacts are a concern. Here, pragmatic methods are developed for the integration of high-dimensional spatial data in offshore wind energy planning. Over 150 spatial data layers are created, which either oppose or support offshore wind energy development, and represent ecological, societal, and economic factors. The method is tested in Finland, where interest in developing offshore wind energy is growing. Analyses were done using a spatial prioritization approach, originally developed for the prioritization of high dimensional ecological data, and rarely used in planning offshore wind energy. When all criteria are integrated, it is possible to find a balanced solution where offshore wind farms cause little disturbance to biodiversity and society, while at the same time yielding high profitability for wind energy production. Earlier proposed areas for offshore wind farms were also evaluated. They were generally well suited for wind power, with the exception of a couple of areas with comparatively high environmental impacts. As an outcome, new areas well suited for large scale wind power deployment were recognized, where construction costs would be moderate and disturbance to biodiversity, marine industries and people limited. A novel tradeoff visualization method was also developed for the conflicts and synergies of offshore energy deployment, which could ease the dialogue between different stakeholders in a spatial planning context. Overall, this study provides a generic and transparent approach for well-informed analysis of offshore wind energy development potential when conflict resolution between biodiversity, societal factors and economic profits is needed. The proposed approach is replicable elsewhere in the world. It is also structurally suitable for the planning of impact avoidance and conflict resolution in the context of other forms of construction or resource extraction.Peer reviewe

    Reliability of prehospital patient classification in helicopter emergency medical service missions

    Background Several scores and codes are used in prehospital clinical quality registries but little is known of their reliability. The aim of this study is to evaluate the inter-rater reliability of the American Society of Anesthesiologists physical status (ASA-PS) classification system, HEMS benefit score (HBS), International Classification of Primary Care, second edition (ICPC-2) and Eastern Cooperative Oncology Group (ECOG) performance status in a helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) clinical quality registry (CQR). Methods All physicians and paramedics working in HEMS in Finland and responsible for patient registration were asked to participate in this study. The participants entered data of six written fictional missions in the national CQR. The inter-rater reliability of the ASA-PS, HBS, ICPC-2 and ECOG were evaluated using an overall agreement and free-marginal multi-rater kappa (Kappa(free)). Results All 59 Finnish HEMS physicians and paramedics were invited to participate in this study, of which 43 responded and 16 did not answer. One participant was excluded due to unfinished data entering. ASA-PS had an overall agreement of 40.2% and Kappa(free) of 0.28 in this study. HBS had an overall agreement of 44.7% and Kappa(free) of 0.39. ICPC-2 coding had an overall agreement of 51.5% and Kappa(free) of 0.47. ECOG had an overall agreement of 49.6% and Kappa(free) of 0.40. Conclusion This study suggests a marked inter-rater unreliability in prehospital patient scoring and coding even in a relatively uniform group of practitioners working in a highly focused environment. This indicates that the scores and codes should be specifically designed or adapted for prehospital use, and the users should be provided with clear and thorough instructions on how to use them.Peer reviewe

    Local non-Gaussianity from inflation

    The non-Gaussian distribution of primordial perturbations has the potential to reveal the physical processes at work in the very early Universe. Local models provide a well-defined class of non-Gaussian distributions that arise naturally from the non-linear evolution of density perturbations on super-Hubble scales starting from Gaussian field fluctuations during inflation. I describe the delta-N formalism used to calculate the primordial density perturbation on large scales and then review several models for the origin of local primordial non-Gaussianity, including the cuvaton, modulated reheating and ekpyrotic scenarios.     Strong lensing by subhalos in the dwarf-galaxy mass range I: Image separations

    The cold dark matter scenario predicts that a large number of dark subhalos should be located within the halo of each Milky-way sized galaxy. One tell-tale signature of such dark subhalos could be additional milliarcsecond-scale image splitting of quasars previously known to be multiply-imaged on arcsecond scales. Here, we estimate the image separations for the subhalo density profiles favoured by recent N-body simulations, and compare these to the angular resolution of both existing and upcoming observational facilities. We find, that the image separations produced are very sensitive to the exact subhalo density profile assumed, but in all cases considerably smaller than previous estimates based on the premise that subhalos can be approximated by singular isothermal spheres. Only the most optimistic subhalo models produce image separations that would be detectable with current technology, and many models produce image separations that will remain unresolved with all telescopes expected to become available in the foreseeable future. Detections of dark subhalos through image-splitting effects will therefore be far more challenging than currently believed, albeit not necessarily impossible.Comment: 7 pages, 3 figures, accepted for publication in Ap
